Wat een toffe uitstap is een bezoek aan het Nationaal Militair Museum in Soesterberg altijd weer. Zelfs als je alleen een rondje rond het gebouw loopt, kom je geschiedenis tegen. Zo staan op de voormalige landingsbaan een aantal vliegtuigen geparkeerd. Deze Russische MIG-21 bijvoorbeeld. Het vliegtuig werd vanaf 1957 door de USSR gebouwd en ingezet. De Russische bijnaam was โBalalaikaโ, terwijl de Amerikanen het de โFishbedโ noemden. Het is de meest gebouwde straaljager uit de Sovjet-Unie en werd o.a. tijdens de Vietnamoorlog ingezet tegen de Amerikanen. Dit exemplaar is afkomstig van de Poolse luchtmacht en is in 1992 na de val van de muur naar Nederland gehaald. Nu is het een voorbeeld van een van de mogelijke tegenstanders van de Nederlandse luchtmacht tijdens de Koude Oorlog. โโโโโ During the Cold War the MIG-21 was the most produced jet in the USSR. This piece can be found on the former runway of the National Military Museum at Soesterberg, The Netherlands. It served in the Polish Airforce and was brought to The Netherlands in 1992.
