For anyone looking for an alternative to the sanitized versions of death metal being celebrated by the culture industry and some of its agents (here and here), Kontusion’s debut EP might be just the thing. You get four songs, about seventeen total minutes and absolutely no fat on it — likely the band ate that themselves. What’s left are OSDM essentials: thick, nose-breaking riffs; production that’s hugely effective in direct proportion to the sodden layer of scum on it; just the right balance of disciplined musicianship to a gonzo appetite for really terrible sounds. It’s pretty great.

East Coast duo Kontusion, featuring Repulsion drummer Chris Moore and vocalist/guitarist Mark Bronzino of Mammoth Grinder, play raw old school death metal with the crusty spirit of the genre's hardcore and crossover-influenced pioneers. Their debut album Insatiable Lust For Death will be released on July 25th through Profound Lore Records.
