Day 18: BL Drama That Was a Major Letdown

Sotus, especially Sotus 2. NOW BEFORE YOU COME FOR MY NECK. BEFORE YOU COME FOR MY THROAT... let me explain. When I started dipping my toes into Thai bl, all anyone talked about was Sotus Sotus Sotus. I was expecting something extraordinary, and it just... wasn't. Like the storyline was fine both times, and I had no real issues with the scripts that I can remember. But I just didn't believe that Arthit was really in love with Kongpop. Like there were cute moments where I could see the emotion, and I totally understand not being into PDA, but for there to be so much hesitation in physical affection when you've been with this person for years???? How is it realistic that someone would seem so uncomfortable being physically affectionate with their partner of several years?? It just felt so forced and like Krist was not into it at all. Like he was fine until they had to show physical affection. And for simple stuff like hugging and hand holding. For this drama to be talked about like it was the holy trail of Thai bls, I was just like why????

I also have this problem, on a much smaller scale, with Dark Blue Kiss. It's not realistic to me that a couple who has been together for 2-3+ years would have such a lack of physical affection. And not just kisses, but hugs, holding hands, leaning against each other, etc. At least with PeteKao there is the tension of Kao isn't out to his mom, and they aren't out to their friends yet. Plus, they are physically affectionate when they're on their ow, away from prying eyes. I also read Kao constantly pushing Pete away as more of a foreplay/teasing mechanism than a true sign of him not being into it.

I found it on Netflix. There is only 1 season on there (even though 2 are out).

It's super adorable and I know no one that knows what I am talking about. Except for my kids. Bean calls it “your Japanese show” and Monkey calls it the “Korean show”.

It’s Thai. Super fluffy with a hint of emotional angst. It is in its original Thai with English subtitles. It’s a slow burn, but I recommend it if you can stick it out.
