"Hic est lapis, super quem effusus est sanguis ex serratione tibiarum S. Colomanni Martyris, quem huc collocavit illustris Dominus Rudolphus IV. Dux Austriae"
"This is the stone upon which the blood was shed from the sawing of the shin bone of the martyr St. Coloman, placed here by the illustrious Lord Rudolf IV, Duke of Austria."
Secondary relic of St. Coloman of Stockerau, an Irishman who was martyred in Austria whilst on a pilgrimage in 1012. The stone, as well as its Latin inscription, have been worn down by pilgrims, leaving behind the handprint one sees today. The stone is hidden behind the door of the gift shop in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna.
Photographed (and touched) on 19 July 2023.
