i think he's a very complex character!

he's more of an outsider of the friend group, kind of awkward at times. he definitely got forgotten or ignored multiple times during the movie and book- overall, just badly treated.

Charlie, as a menace he is, has bullied and teased him to the point that it was awful. i'm a pretty sensitive person and if some of my friends acted as charlie did to some of my comments i'd burst into tears - he's a warrior, i tell ya. Also my son.

i understand the actions in the movie. i understood that he was a child and he did what the adults told him. he's holding onto the brilliance he has in class and tries his best to please the teachers, leading to the fall out.

i am sure that he didn't mean it when he said that it was Keatings fault - because it wasn't. it's the system. but he had no other choice. he couldn't disappoint his parents. he couldn't lose the scolarship. he already had a bit of self hatred accumulating from not being appreciated and cared for that it rolled into stress and in the end led to the betrayal.

i'm sure he regretted it for many years to come after, or just gasslit himself into ignorant bliss, but i think he regrets it later and it eats at him every day after that.

also my birthday is in like 9 days and i got my dream camera for having a perfect GPA so life is pretty awesome right now !!
