A hand shook her knee. Kleya sucked in her breath and blinked her eyes open.
The interior of the truck was dim, only the light of the dashboard and the occasional flicker of headlights from outside lighting it up. Something punky and drummy muttered on the radio, too low for the genre but also too low to wake her. That hadn't been it, anyway.
Melshi pulled his hand back. "Bad dream?"
Her heart still thudded from it. "Yeah. Explosions and gunfire and - felt like a war zone."
"Shit," Melshi said. He'd been in a few actual war zones. "Sorry, love."
"Mmm." She slouched against the door, heartbeat gradually slowing. Just a dream. She yawned hugely. "You were there."
"Hope I wasn't firing a gun at you." He shifted gears and changed lanes to go around a large semi.
"No. You were - " She yawned again. "You were taking care of me."
