Y/N’s ride was a little different. Her mind kept racing and she frequently ran her tongue over her teeth, hoping she’d be able to tell if they started growing again. This had only happened once before and it wasn’t a pleasant memory.

When they drew close to the bunker, Y/N’s eyes lit up at the surroundings. What the others couldn’t see, were all of the creatures not on their plane. Not all of them were friendly, more indifferent. She had a suspicion they were drawn there for some reason. On purpose or by accident?

“Here we are,” Dean said. “Home.”

Y/N stepped out of the Impala, into the rain, and stared at the exterior of the bunker. “This is where you live? How?”

“Don’t knock it,” Dean turned to face her. “By the way, there are two other hunters who live with us and several who come and go. We haven’t told them about you.”

“You invited me to live with you and failed to mention it to your inmates? That’s not exactly the first impression I’m comfortable with.”

“You wanna sleep outside? In the rain?”

“I’m more used to it than a roof, at this point,” she stated. Castiel almost twinged at her comment, remembering when he didn’t have a roof over his head, and a definite need for friends at the time.

Dean playfully pushed her forward, “Get in there.”

She smiled at him and took her bag, which was being held by Castiel. “Thank you.” He nodded to her.

Y/N walked into the bunker, looking around, curiously. “Nice. I take back what I said.”

“Don’t thank us yet,” Dean pushed past her. “Your room isn’t exactly 5-star accommodation.”

Opening the door to Room 32, Dean stepped in. Y/N followed him and studied the walls for a moment. “Interesting paint job.”

“Yeah. A friend of ours did this. He died soon after that, we just haven’t painted over it.”

“Oh...” Y/N didn’t really know how to respond. “Do you know what it is?”

“You can’t read it?”

“Other than English and Spanish, I can’t read the languages I speak. I mean, I can learn, but it’s not easy to teach me anything.” She shrugged. “Maybe it’s the trade-off for whatever superinstincts I have.”

“This is Enochian.”

Y/N looked at it closer. “His language?”

“Well, angels’.” Dean walked to the doorway as she sat her bag down. “Maybe Cas can try to teach you.”

“I don't know about that. The last person who tried such a thing ended up on a bayonet. Of course, we were in a museum, which we broke into, but still… The Angel and I may not have seriously clashed since the first day, but teaching me something new is like trying to fit a large torus inside a small icosahedron.”

Dean stared at her.

“A torus is basically a donut,” she tried to explain while he looked at her. “And an icosahedron is one of those die used in Dungeons and Dragons,” she stopped suddenly.

He smiled at her, a slight huff giving away his amusement.

“Probably could have just said ‘cube’ and it would have been easier.”

“You just remind me of someone.”

“Someone who’s still alive, hope.”

“Yes and no,” Dean smiled back at her as he left the room. “It’s almost dinner time, so I’ll let you get settled and finish showing you around later.”

“And maybe you’ll show me your room?” She joked, but he turned to wink at her before walking off.

Klee flung her arms out to her sides and reclined on the bed.

Some time later, Sam walked into the kitchen to find Dean cooking. “Hey, have you heard from any of them?”

“Brynn’s still in Holyoke. Looking for lizard people.” He turned to his brother. “Again.”

Sam scoffed, “We have to talk to her about that.”

Castiel walked into the kitchen, sitting down at the table.

Dean continued, “She’s gonna do whatever she wants. No matter how stupid the hunt sounds.”

“She’s looking for Lemuria,” Castiel interjected. “She won’t find it.”

“Atticus is on his way back from Questa. Something called La Mala Hora.”

Sam raised his head, “He take care of it?”

“Of course.”

“You tell them yet?”

“Yes.”

“Where is she?”

Dean took the pan off the stove. “Left her alone in Gabirel’s old room for a while. I figured she could use it.”

“Gabriel’s?” Same questioned, but before he could continue, Castiel asked the question he was already thinking.

“She saw it?”

“Yeah, but she can’t read it.” Dean finished plating the food, looking at Cas. “I told her you should teach her.”

Castiel responded with a sigh and rolling eyes. “I wish you hadn’t done that.”

“Why? You've been getting along.”

“We almost had a blowout over a lock.”

“An unpickable lock.”

“Her temper is... unpredictable, at best. I find her tiring in ways I didn’t know were possible.”

Dean nervously scratched his neck. “She did mention an incident with the last person who tried to teach her anything.”

“Someone she killed?”

“She didn’t mention whether they lived or died.”

Sam grabbed a beer from the fridge. “Cas, Dean’s right. She could be here for a while and maybe this is a good thing.” He removed the cap and took a drink.

“Especially if I’m gonna date her.”

Dean’s statement astonished both men, who gawked at him.

“Dean,” Sam started. “You haven’t seriously talked about dating someone since Lisa.”

Dean scowled and sat down the plate he was about to eat from. It took him a while to realize how long it had been. Thirteen years. Suddenly, thoughts about Lisa and Ben came flooding into his mind. Things he’d never wanted to think about. Then, the idea that he was so interested in this new woman after so long, scared him. He sat down suddenly. “Well, I’ve lost my appetite.”

“Dean,” Castiel stood up. “I had no idea this was so important to you.”

“More like, I literally hadn’t thought about it, until now.”

“In any case… I will… I’ll attempt to do all I can to make her feel more welcome in my presence.”

Castiel quickly left Dean and Sam in the kitchen.

“Is this a bad time to mention Claire?”

The color left Dean’s face. “Shut up.”

Cas was on his way to room 32, walking down the hall when he heard something small fall to the floor. He didn’t want to intrude on Y/N, but he didn’t want to let Dean down, either. He knocked on the door and waited, but he couldn’t hear anything else. “Y/N?” There was no reply, but he heard screeching sound, as if a chair had been pushed across the floor. “Y/N? Are you alright?”

He waited again, still no reply. He carefully opened the door and peeked in, but he didn’t see anyone. There wasn’t a comforter on the bed, which seemed strange, but not bad. He walked further into the room before he saw the lump of a body lying on the floor.

Walking to her quickly, he crouched over her. She was only sleeping. Taking notice of how she had purposely pulled the blanket off and covered herself, he frowned. She had placed some of her things next to her. He must have heard the cup next to her hand get knocked over, and the dragging sound must have been caused by her knee on the chair, which was too close to her. He noticed her shoulder protruding from the blanket. When she turned and lifted her arm above her head, he discovered she was naked. Strange.

“Cas?” He heard Sam from the doorway.

Castiel’s eyes widened. He swiftly pulled the blanket to cover Y/N.

“I’m over here.”

Sam came into the room to see what was going on. “What are you doing?”

Castiel held his hand up to stop him and made his way to the door, urging Sam to follow.

Notes:

You opened the door to the boys’ motel room and walked in. Sam was sitting at the table with his laptop. He looked up, expecting to see Dean. When he saw you, his mood immediately shifted to annoyance.

“What do you want?”

“I’m bored.”

“Twenty minutes ago you were tired.”

“I rebound fast.”

Sam growled, “Well, at least close the door if you’re coming in.” His mood had strangely changed since earlier. He was irritated that you all stayed an extra night so all of you could sleep before driving home, yet Dean had gone to a different bar nearby.

You heard the irritation in his voice and smiled to yourself as you slowly closed the door and sat in the other seat. “What are you doing?”

“Research.”

“On what? Having a good time?”

“You know... You could have gone out too!”

“You’re so lame.”

Sam stood up, took one long stride toward you, and grabbed your arm. You opened your mouth in a silent yelp, though the pain written on your face was false. He pulled you up and walked you to the door.

“Why don’t you go back to your room or go to the bar, yourself?”

“I must have interrupted something. Looking at porn? Is that what you call research?”

Sam reached for the door handle, but you moved in front of it. “What is it? Step-siblings? Furries? Gay porn? Lesbian?” You smiled at him, pushing his hand away.

“Fuck you.”

You pulled away from his grasp and hustled him. He stumbled a bit and when he got his balance, he looked at you with both rage and surprise clear in his eyes.

“Didn’t think I was that strong, did ya?” You took a few steps toward him. “I’m stronger than that. Just wouldn’t want to hurt you.”

He replied sarcastically, “Oh really?”

“After you made a big fuss over a pat on your face, I don’t think it would take much.”

“Try.” He sounded determined, but you knew he was just putting it on.

You looked at him as a predator stalking its prey and grinned. When you jumped at him and pushed him onto the bed, he grunted as the air was pushed out of his lungs. Before he could do anything, your knees were on each side of his chest, squeezing his ribs. He lifted his hand, and you loosened your hold on him. Your eyebrows raised, “Enough already?”

Sam’s irritation grew. He pushed you onto your back, but you managed to elbow his shoulder and he toppled over in pain. ”Ahh!”

“You’re gonna have to do better than that.”

He yelled at you, “I’ve hurt this shoulder multiple times!”

You shrugged, “Sorry.”

At that, Sam reached up and put his large hand around your neck. You smiled at him and punched his jaw. When he let go of you, the fight continued as you rolled on top of each other. Over again until Sam’s back hit the floor with a painful thud, you on top of him, with your hand now on his neck. Your leg was between his thighs.

Realization dawned on you as you felt it. “Oh, I see.” You felt his erection on your knee and rubbed it against his crotch, letting him know you caught on. “Is it just the fighting?”

After feeling you rub against him a few more times, excruciatingly slow, he finally gave in and reached for your ass. Grabbing you and squeezing, he grunted. Part of me wishes you wouldn’t remember, either.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’ve never even thought of sleeping with someone I knew less than a few months.” You blushed, “I guess I waited too long, considering I can’t remember the last time I knew someone longer than a few months.”

He noticed your red cheeks and knew it was true. “What if neither of them are coming back tonight?”

“They’d still notice in the morning.” You tried to stand, but he pulled you back down.

“What if I feel like it’s my turn to be in charge?”

After thinking about it for a moment, you pursed your lips together and challenged him. “You could try.”

He accepted and pushed you over and laid on top of you. “I’ll try all night if that’s how long it takes.“ You giggled at him.

     “We came here to deal with weird crap happening at some old park, not to decode crazy chick radio.”      You groaned and pushed yourself up.      “Hey,” Sam walked over and sat down on the opposite bed. “Are you okay?”      “I’m great.”        Dean grabbed a glass of water and brought it to you. “There are still a few details we need before we can help you.”        You took a drink of the water. “Did you call any of them?”      “Yeah. Everyone else in the room just stared at you.        “What’s so funny?”        “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever been asked.”        Sam frowned. “Why?”        “Come on, angels aren’t real.”        Dean and Sam looked at Castiel, then Sam turned back to you.        “You believe that?”        You leaned back. “Of course. I mean, none of that God or Angel crap is real. If it were, I’m sure at least one of them would’ve listened to me at some point.”        “What do you believe in?”        “Demons, gods, various monsters, spirits, elementals… But the God? Angels? No.”        Sam lifted his head to Dean. You followed his gaze. “What?”        Dean nodded to Castiel. “There’s one standing right over there.”        “One what?”        Sam rose and walked over to your things, now displayed on the table.        “Angel,” Dean said.        You looked at Castiel and scoffed. He looked offended.        “Yeah, okay.”        You took another sip as Sam picked up a vial of clear fluid sitting on the table. Castiel grabbed a book and flipped through it.        “Cass?” Dean tried to talk him into showing off.        “No.” Castiel leaned back, trying to appear uninterested.        “Come on, man. No epic wings or glowing eyes?”        “Technically, I’m no longer affiliated. Remember?” Castiel sighed, “She won’t believe anything she sees or hears right now, anyway.”        “I guess we don’t have a way to prove he’s really an angel.”        Castiel rolled his eyes, tossed the book he was peeking through on the table, and spun toward you. Disgruntled, he walked to the bed and stood next to you. He reached out his hand. You flinched, so he changed his tone, slightly.        “I’m not going to hurt you.”        He bent his knees and sank next to the bed.        “My name is Castiel. I’m an angel.”      “Castiel?”        “Yes.”        “I see.” You studied him. “The angel Castiel?”        Cass nodded.        “Uh-huh. As in Wings of Desire?” You teased.        “What is that?”      “Is that a porn?” Dean’s grin was unmistakable. “What have you been up to, Cass?”      “It’s a depressing movie about bored angels who are obsessed with humans. They sulk around in trench-coats, being creepy, and wishing they were mortal. But you got the name wrong.”        “Excuse me?” Castiel was vexed.        “His name is Cassiel.”        He stood up, looking like he was about to pull out his hair. “We need answers. Now.”        “You want to know what I know about myself?”        “That’d be nice.” Dean included.        After trying to avoid the interaction, you finally decided that divulging this particular secret wasn’t dangerous.      “I need saltwater and someone to connect with. One of you.”        “For what?” Sam inquired.        “Telling you will be more difficult than showing you.”        Dean smirked, “Lucky for you, we always carry salt.”        “No. I need natural saltwater.”        You pointed to the vial of fluid in Sam’s hand. “I need that.”        Sam passed you the vial. Castiel was about to sit on the bed, but you stopped him, turning your face toward your knees. “Not you.” He tried to give you an apologetic smile and stood.        Dean stepped forward. “Alright. I guess I’ll volunteer.” He sat on the bed in front of you and smiled flirtatiously. “Hi.”        You glared at him for a second but still winked. You opened the vial and put some water on your hands.        “What is this, like dream walking?”        “Absolutely not.”        You realized your chest still had a puncture wound and wiped it with the water. It healed, which surprised everyone else. You drank the remaining liquid.        “If you see them… Just pretend that you don’t.”        “Who?”        You grabbed his hands and held on tight.

       There was a sudden swirl of images being shared between them: Someone running through a swamp. Demons being exercised. Puppies. Vampires. The Mark. You looking in a mirror. Dean meeting Castiel.        Before either of them realized it, they were being forced out of the trance. Out of instinct to defend yourself, you grabbed on to the hand touching your shoulder. As if a jolt of electricity hit, you jumped off of the bed. “Shit!”        Dean fell to the floor. In a daze, he laughed, “You gotta be kiddin’ me.”        You squeezed your eyes shut and pressed your back against the wall. When you opened your eyes, Castiel was standing right in front of you. You reached out and sort of poked him with your fingers. He leaned back when your fingers made contact due to the little bit of force you put behind your hand. “Fuck. So… So you’re real, and you really are a—” You wobbled to the side.        Cass tried to steady you, but you avoided him, swatting his hand away. “Stop. I know why they don’t want me interacting with you.”        Sam stood over his brother. “Dean?”        He smiled up at him. “That’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever done.”        Sam’s head whipped around. “What did you do to him?”        “That can happen sometimes. He’ll be better in an hour. Maybe.” You turned your attention back to Cass. “Why would you do that?”        “You were both out of it for nearly two hours.”        Dean sat up. “Really? It seemed like we barely started.” There was a hint of slurring in his speech.        “It works like sleeping patterns on some people. Only instead of having a dream that seems like hours when it was only five minutes, it can seem like only five seconds over a long period of actual time.”        Dean dragged himself onto one of the beds and lied down.        Sam looked miffed. “I thought you said it would be easier.”        “It usually is. I’m not exactly an expert on any of my abilities!” Your hands started shaking. You made your way to your bag and took some money out of a hidden pouch. Dean began snoring. “Maybe he was just tired.” Looking at your cash, you sighed. “Is there a soda machine somewhere?”        “This place doesn’t even have an ice machine, but it’s just a few hours until morning.”        You sat down and cupped your forehead. “Great.”        “What’s wrong with you?”        “Lately, if I use my powers, I sort of crash.”        Castiel looked out of the window. “I think there was a diner a few blocks away.”        Sam shrugged. “You like pancakes?”        Dean suddenly stopped snoring and sleepily looked up. “Pancakes?”

Early evening. Summer. Bar buzzing with people. You’re sitting at the bar, lollipop in your mouth, lighting matches with your fingers. You touch the condensation on your glass and as your fingers move, the water travels in a trail. When some hunters at a table begin talking, you raise the hood of your jacket and listen to the three hunters (ranging from late 20s - late 50s) at the table behind you.

HUNTER 1 We have to move out.

HUNTER 2 I thought the case was 50 miles from here.

HUNTER 1 Winchesters. Don’t know about you, but I’d prefer not getting involved. Or in their way.

HUNTER 3 They create all the problems, then pretend like they helped by fixing them.

You smile to yourself. A driver sits next to you.

DRIVER So I hear you need a ride?

YOU Yeah, I’m only headed to Ocean City.

DRIVER Really? What’s out there?

You throw him a smile.

. . . . . . . . . .

Inside the cab of a semi. You’re asleep, with your head lying against the window. The driver pulls off to a spot in the middle of nowhere, causing you to wake up.

YOU Are we there?

You look around, groggy.

YOU Where are we?

The driver attacks you. Pulling you forward with his hands.

. . . . . . . . . .

TRUCK

The truck rocks back and forth as the struggle inside continues. You manage to escape without your jacket and start running, but the driver pulls out a gun and shoots you. Your lifeless body, along with your bag, lay on the ground for hours. After dark, the grass around you grows. The individual blades wrap around your fingers, hands, arms, and legs. As they wrap around your head, you take in a quiet, deep breath. You sit up and look around. You pull yourself up and as you do, the blades of grass die and fall off. The bullet falls out of your back. Looking down, you see an outline of dead grass where you were lying. After looking in all directions, you pick up your bag and the bullet and begin walking towards the highway.

THE HIGHWAY - EVENING

As you walk on the side of the highway, you turn to look behind you and see it. The black Impala that you’ve been looking for. The car rushes past you. You look up and see a starling on a lamp post. You stare at it for a moment and it looks back at you, head tilting. The bird flies off. You smile and continue to walk.

SIDEWALK - THE NEXT NIGHT

You see Sam and Dean talking. You study them for a moment as you take a piece of candy and put it in your mouth. Before walking toward them, you crouch down and touch the grass. Your hand digs into the dirt. When you pull it out, about 3 worms come with it.

YOU Thank you.

The starling you saw earlier, picks a worm and flies off. You run your hands through your hair. Taking steps forward you don’t notice the jagged edge on the side of a bumper of an old van you brush past. Your jeans catch on the car and you get stuck. You pull your leg to break free, but you don’t come loose.

YOU Dammit! Come on.

The sound of your struggle gets the attention of Sam and Dean who notice a big truck speeding down the road. Dean tries to get your attention by waving his arms in the air.

DEAN Hey! (Pause) Hey!

Sam and Dean run across the street to help.

You feel arms wrap around you and pull you back. You are so preoccupied with getting loose and lost in your thoughts that it takes you by surprise. They all watch as the truck rushes through. After a few seconds of just realizing you almost died (again), you force the arms off of you. You take a defensive stance and come face to face with Castiel.

CASTIEL Just trying to help.

After a few seconds, you relax. Sam and Dean arrive.

YOU Sorry. I’m... Um... Obviously, not used to being helped out much. I mean, I’m not exactly…

You gesture to show you’re kind of a mess. You see the tear in your pants.

YOU And now I’m worse.

SAM You were really close to being hit.

YOU Yeah, I realize.

Sam puts his right hand out.

SAM My name is Sam.

You accept Sam’s hand and shake it.

At a loss for words, Sam sighs.

DEAN Just tell me. Do you want in on this? Because if not, I’m going to make a move.

SAM I think I’m good, Dean.

Dean looks over at Castiel.

CASTIEL What?

DEAN Where is your head, lately? I’m offering you a chance with her and you don’t even seem to notice.

Annoyed, Castiel pointedly answers Dean, who doesn’t seem to notice Cass’s tone as being unusual.

CASTIEL No. Thank. You.

Dean smiles, hits his brother’s arm, and runs off to join you. Sam smiles at his brother’s ridiculous behavior.

 MOTEL BAR - LATER

Sam watches as Dean heavily hits on you. He is smiling and talking to you, flirtatiously grazing your hand as he gives you a fresh drink. Castiel suddenly appears next to Sam.

CASTIEL It’s only a few ghosts. I’m sure it will be a simple in and out job. Where’s Dean?

SAM Dean is...

Sam looks over the table where Dean and you are sitting.

SAM Being Dean.

Castiel looks over at the table and sees Dean touching your arm. You return the flirtations with a smile and brush your leg against his.

CASTIEL What have you learned about her?

SAM You should probably ask Dean. He’s been talking to her for the last hour and a half. She’s been coming on to him harder than he is to her.

Castiel looks back at the table.

CASTIEL Interesting. I’m not sure I trust her.

SAM What makes you say that?

CASTIEL I don’t like the way Dean is flirting with her.

SAM What are you talking about? He’s doing what he always does.

Castiel looks at Dean, disapprovingly.

CASTIEL He’s being too honest about it. Being that open is dangerous.

SAM Cass, are you…jealous?

Castiel looks at Sam, genuinely confused.

CASTIEL Of what?

Dean joins Sam and Castiel as you walk away.

DEAN Damsel in distress.

Castiel & Sam recognize this as a code for a trap.

SAM What the plan?

DEAN My plan is to leave with her. You two can pretend to save me in an hour or so.

SAM An hour? Dean, if this is a trap, you can’t just willingly fall into it.

DEAN It’s a risk I’m willing to take.

Noticing the ridiculous smile on Dean’s face, Sam rolls his eyes.

SAM Is she even your type?

DEAN Uh, yeah.

CASTIEL I don’t think it’s a good idea.

DEAN Yeah? When is the last time you saw a woman like that?

CASTIEL Dean, just because it’s a trap, doesn’t mean it’s okay to use her for sex.

DEAN Oh, I’m not. She invited me to her room. I promise I’ll be careful by thoroughly checking everything out. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a trap to fall into.

DEAN winks and walks away.

NEAR THE MOTEL ROOMS - MOMENTS LATER

DEAN catches up with you.

DEAN Hey, I thought we were having a good time.

DEAN Why did you run off?

YOU If I were running, you wouldn’t have found me.

MOTEL ROOM - LATER
