They are taking a moment to hide from the chaos that is Lance's family at Christmas to enjoy some hot cocoa together on the basement stairs.

chapter 6 summary:

“So, team,” Lance says, the earlier theatrics toned down just a bit. “Today’s kind of a big day for a bunch of humans back on Earth. I know it’s crazy to think about how long we’ve been gone already. I miss it all the time. But just because we aren’t home doesn’t mean we can’t bring our homes here, too.” He stops to smile, dropping his arm like he’s signaling the start of a race. “Merry Christmas, everyone!”

There’s a pause as the team processes, and then they’re all stepping into the common room, wearing matching expressions of awe. The color-coded stockings, the once-pink garland draped in little swoops across the walls, the tree with a topper and gifts underneath—seeing everything with the whole team gathered, it feels that much more tangible. Like just the presence of everyone here together has permeated throughout the room and sunken into the decorations themselves, leaving the lights shining brighter and the colors with an extra pop.

“And,” Lance says, brandishing a little remote he must've had stashed in his pocket, “Happy Parstelia!”
