Do non-Canadians know how awful it is to be trans in Canada rn? How much conservatives have used trans youth as pillars to pass evil bills? How trans children are treated by the school system, provincial bodies, with almost no support from the liberal party???
In Alberta, our premier has been using the not withstanding clause (basically a way to ignore our rights and introduce obviously discriminatory laws) over and over again. Once to force striking teachers to go back to work. Every other time to make being a trans student hell. All the while saying she stands with the trans community, wants to protect children, etc.
So many times on the internet i see people use canada as a positive comparison of the us, as a safe place for marginalized people to run to as usamerica gets significantly more facist and unsafe. But i never see people outside here stand with our trans community, share or make posts about us, show concern for us. Fuck, even when we were on fire the only thing i saw from us outlets were talking about the smoke blowing in from our dying ecosystems.
Queer people are unsafe here, indigenous people are unsafe, immigrants are unsafe, poc are unsafe. It just sucks all around rn.
Anyway, heres a insta post summarizing what’s going on in Alberta… To my Canadian siblings i love you all, please stay safe out there 🫶🏾 write to ur mla’s if u can!!!

Today I learned that homeless people, and people living on reserve, are not included in poverty research in Kkkanada.
That’s right, the most impoverished people aren’t represented or accounted for in poverty statistics!
Fuck the system, fuck the colonial government and fuck all the people who like to pretend this is all okay.
Here in Canada, there is a murdered indigenous woman whose body is currently laying in a LANDFILL of which we know almost precisely the location of and.
The Canadian government does nothing. They cry about how expensive it would be to not let our sister lay to rest in GARBAGE.
Reconciliation is DEAD and always has been.

“Abolish Canada”
Mural seen in Vancouver, British Columbia
I’m watching “For Love”, a documentary about First Nations people and exploring how more than half of all kids in foster care in Canada are Indigenous, and delving into the history of First Nations people getting their children taken.
It just made me think of one other documentary (whose name escapes me) about how this young boy wanted to go back home from residential school, because he missed his grandfather. The priest tricked him and made him pack up and get ready for a visit and then locked him in a shed for a week.
The thing that absolutely broke me was how this 70 something year old man said “I don’t understand why they did that to me, just because I was lonesome.”
So many of our children have been taken and never returned and I don’t think enough people know about this.
This country robbed me of my Indigenous cultural identity and stripped me of my customs. No pride in genocide.
