20. I saw your eyes light up

“You miss her, don’t you?”

Yoko responded to the sudden statement by nearly choking on her food. “Wha- Kita, I’m eating, don’t scare me like that. You don’t need another death in your hands.”

The urchin rolled her eyes, idly chewing on a seaweed leaf. This is the kind of stuff that happened on lunch dates with Kitamura, she always wound up choking on her food because of something the urchin did. She really needed to be more aware by now. “Hardy har, you know exactly what I’m talking about.”

“About what?”

“You keep looking at your phone, you're watching Karen perform on Squitter again.”

The inkling scoffed. “What makes you think that I’m watching her stuff on our… break, yeah, our break from each other?”

Kitamura pointed at her with her fork, eyes narrowed and judgemental. “I saw your eyes light up, you only ever look that way when your ex-girlfriend is on piano.”

God damnit, she was caught. Yoko could only blush as she raised her phone from under the table, a video of one of Karen’s performances playing on loop. “... It was only for a second.”

Kitamura snatched the phone out of her hands. “And it takes a second before you get mopey and depressed because you miss her so bad. We came here to get over hot girls and beat up boys, not to be sad about hot girls while beating up boys, got it?”

Kitamura and Murasaki. Urchin drummers. Youngest of their bands. Their names originate from the same place, the Japanese name for the Mesocentrotus Nudus, aka Kitamurasakiuni. They even share the same style of signature, where they draw their own face alongside their signature. What does it all mean?

Probably nothing. Maybe they're related? Like siblings, with the third missing sister Uni hiding out somewhere in the world? Or maybe it is just a grand cosmic coincidence? (except it can't possibly be one, because they were created with intent by someone). Or maybe they're meant to be contrasts to each other, one a successful academic graduate who seems to have her life together, the other a gifted kid from the streets who peaked too young?
