Daily Featured Flag #16: Kiribati
Today's daily featured flag for 12 July, 2026 is the flag of the Republic of Kiribati. (Pronounced keer-ih-BAHS.) To be perfectly honest, this flag could use some work. It's a bit overcomplicated and the eye on the bird look just plain silly... but this flag is extremely charming. The aspect ratio and the overcomplicated sun rays are cute, and the waves are pleasant to a freaky degree. The black borders surrounding the yellow elements are also a choice, but it's hard not to love this flag. Look at it. It's adorable.
If you'd like your favorite flag featured tomorrow as #17, go down to the reblogs or replies and tell me about it. Bye for now!

“Kiribati, Aspects of History” by Various Authors
For most of the books for this challenge, I chose Fictional stories, but a handful of countries proved difficult to find books for. Whether the nation is relatively small and thus has a smaller pool to choose from, or language barriers in the form of accessible translations, sometimes the decision of what book would represent a country was made for me. Such is the case for my book for Kiribati.
Written at the time when Kiribati became an independent sovereign nation, this history book was a collaborative work of more than 20 I-Kiribati. Beginning with the myths and legends of creation and population of their islands, and journeying through time to the nation’s independence, the story of the country is told by its inhabitants, not foreign historians or colonizers.
It was a lovely introduction to a country I knew nothing about beforehand. I enjoyed Part 1 the most, because creation myths have always been interesting, but it was also lovely to see the history develop through time to where it was in the 1970s when this book was published.
I learned a fair bit and thoroughly enjoyed myself while reading this history book.
