Ramadan under lock-down this year is going to be different to say the least. We are living in unprecedented times- thousands of mosques around the world and the Holy Kaa’ba are closed to the public and we have to live with the reality that we will have to quietly breaks our fasts and pray as much as we can at home without physically standing behind an Imam calling us to worship. Many of you are without your families because the risk of exposure and spreading the virus is too great, and in a time that is defined to us by worshiping God and spending time with family and the community, it is particularly painful. But despite all the pain and suffering in the world right now, we must remember that we will get through this together. The best thing we can do right now is to do our best to focus on helping others in any way we can, as it, along with worship, will nourish the soul like no other. Even a smile is charity, and in this blessed month, any act of kindness will be sure to bring a multitude of blessings. This will not last forever, and when we come out of this difficult time, we’ll look back and see that we came out of this more resilient and more grateful as a people. Instead of thinking about all of the wonderful things we are missing out on, try to think about all of the blessings that you still have. I promise, there are a million reasons to still be thankful right now. This month is the time for self-reflection, giving back to others with acts of kindness, forgiveness, and nourishing our souls with light in whatever way we can. May Allah protect you and your loved ones from any pain and suffering, and may we all come out of this difficult time as better and stronger people.
Ramadan Mubarak to you all 🌙✨
