kida was inherently used to the presence of animals; they teemed around atlantis, colorful and diverse, from the wide-winged birds that perched atop the ruins to the large reptiles that many atlantean families claimed as pets. though she had learned from milo that these animals were vastly different from the ones who roamed the surface, kida had never quite seen it for herself. and yet, now, in this strange city with its towering glass homes and earth-bound, smoke-spewing martags, kida was finally witnessing some of those animals that milo had described to her. four-legged, long-tailed felines that skulked among alleys, small chittering rodents that darted through the underbrush, even large, loud creatures that seemed inherently happy to see anyone and anything. she was, through the few days she had been in spirale, learning their names and what they did.
it was, however, a pure delight to find the little lizard who would not seem out of place in atlantis’s jungles and ruins. the strangeness of its flaming tail was out of place, but kida did not let it dim her smile as she held out a hand, fingers outstretched.
❝ You are a strange creature, are you not? ❞ kida beckoned it closer with a gentle wiggle of her fingers. ❝ Are you far from your home, like I am? ❞
