10/23/25.
I really wasn't expecting what I heard when "Let My Spirit Rise" played as the only song available from the vinyl release of "Orange" (originally released in 2010). Here was a song so beautiful that all I could think of was a cross of Holy Hive and Molly Drake.
Kurt Weisman (Montague, Massachusetts) is the brother of Chris Weisman whose album "Play Sharp To Me" (Feeding Tube Records) we covered back on March 4, 2025. Kurt Weisman, according to the Bandcamp page, is a "founding member of cult supergroup Feathers (with Kyle Thomas/King Tuff, Asa Irons, Ruth Garbus, and Chris Weisman).
"Orange" was originally released on CD on Autumn Records. It looks like the LP reissue is a co-release between Poole Music and Autumn Records.
'Smalltown Stardust' is out 1/27.

Every Record I Own - Day 688: King Tuff s/t
I was hired to write a little blurb on King Tuff for a limited edition single on Suicide Squeeze Records back in 2012. I was unfamiliar with King Tuff (aka guitarist/vocalist Kyle Thomas) at the time, but I was smitten with the two songs I was hired to write about. I was also stunned to find out that Thomas had also been the singer for the stoner rock ensemble Witch, whose debut album was one of the rare Sabbath-influenced rock records of theĀ ā00s that actually hit the mark for me. Thereās pretty large difference between the jubilant and sunshine-drenched guitar pop of King Tuff and the fuzzy devilās-note blues of Witch, and I gotta tip my hat to Thomas for being able to do both so well.
Bought this LP on Sub Pop later in 2012. Itās got some absolutely perfect rock songs on it, and itās got some songs that veer a little too far into whimsy for my tastes. Tracks likeĀ āAnthem,āĀ āBad Thing,ā andĀ āSwamp of Loveā make me hold onto this LP. Tracks likeĀ āAlone and Stonedā andĀ āKeep on Movingāā make me wish this was an EP.Ā
Hey, they canāt all be hits.
