"Do I need to get a rabies shot, Josten?", Kevin demanded, unsuccessfully trying to wrap the bandages around the scratches single-handedly before Aaron took pity on him and stepped in to help.
"Sir doesn't have rabies." Neil sounded almost offended on his cat's behalf. "She just has trust issues, she's a stray. She does that to everyone."
"Not everyone", Kevin said sourly, looking over at where Sir had stopped hissing at him and was instead trying to drape herself over Andrew's shoulders in a poor imitation of an extremely furry scarf, purring all the while. Neil looked over, his face softening as he smiled slightly.
"Yeah King does that too", Neil said. "For some reason every stray we take in loves Andrew."
Aaron snorted and gave Neil a pointed look.
"Really? You don't say."

Andrew putting together a cat tower for King and Sir that’s about as tall as he is while Neil screws a series of shelves into the walls for the cats to jump from one to the other and nap on while still having ‘a clear view of their domain.’ Neil finishes up first and his job thereafter is to keep the cats entertained while Andrew finishes the tower because they’ve been circling his feet and trying to climb up him the entire time and in Andrew’s words quote “I am about to take them back to the pound if they keep it up.” Lies.
I just know that Jean would absolutely hit Neil in panic the moment he discovers one of his cats is named "King". Neil would be so confused like "what the fuck was that for?" and Jean would just stare at him, then at that cat, then at him again debating if Neil really hadn't realized when he picked the name. After a second of just staring Neil finally catches on with Jean's train of thought and smiles so brightly that Jean has to hit him again before it turns into a Nathaniel Smile.
"Oh come on, you know he has to be turning in his grave."
Neil has a wonderful week after that. He sends a "thank you basket" to whichever Fox suggested the name.
