Tolkienâs fixation on the unbroken male line of Isildur and the family tree of Chieftains of the DĂșnedain that led to Aragorn is almost funny to me because, thereâs no way that generations of wives/mothers only gave birth to one son every time. Most of those Chieftains mustâve had sisters; Aragorn being an only child was probably the exception or more of a rarity, especially since his father was killed so soon after his birth, before any siblings could be conceived. I bet many Chieftains actually had older sisters. The odds of a babyâs sex at birth are almost always 50/50 (though I admit Iâm no fertility expert). There was no gender-selective IVF in Middle-earth, so itâs not like they couldâve always guaranteed male offspring. Itâs fun to headcanon the rest of those families - maybe some of them had, like, three or four or more daughters before the son finally arrived.

I wish I could draw because after watching Fellowship and the Two Towers again I just know there was a moment where Legolas and Gimli knew Aragon was asleep so they started holding hands, whispering pet names in Sindarin and Khuzdul, softly giggling and kissing only for Aragorn to have awoken 5 minutes ago because with his special Ranger/DĂșnedain ears, their giggles woke him up, so now he is just laying there disturbed and traumatized. And I just wish I could draw that out. One random night somewhere in Rohan- Legolas and Gimili:
