I'm in the Outer Banks in North Carolina on vacation, and there are SO MANY GHOST CRABS on the beach at night!
I remember coming here as a kid and needing to actually search around a bit to find them... not this time! I went out walking on the beach around midnight and I could barely walk 3 feet without seeing at least one.
There's some that are A LOT bigger than I remember seeing before, too! I think I must have seen half a dozen BIGGUNS with bodies around 1.5 to 2 inches across, for a total 5-6ish inches of crabulence when counting full spread of legs when they weren't tucked in.
Found one half-buried, and another eating a mole crab (with audible crunching), though I accidentally startled that one trying to take a picture so it dropped its meal and scuttled off. Sorry crab! I left it there on the beach so hopefully it came back to finish the leftovers after I walked away.
