It should have been theirs.  Yet Hiruzen named Minato Hokage. Regardless of how much older the serpent was, how much more experienced, qualified even. That it had come down to the ridiculous notion that the blond male had the character of a leader, more so than the viper ever would. That the Hokage needed to inspire hope and carry the Will of Fire. Qualities their dear teacher evidently thought they lacked, but Minato carried. And maybe, they were going to prove everyone right on this evening. As they sit on the windowsill of the large Hokage office. As rain falls just short of them elegantly seated in the open frame. Rolling off the slanted roof and cascading less than half a meter from their slender figure. It isn’t their office, as they so hoped it would be. And they sit in wait for the man who now owns such a seat to arrive. Darkness had already ensnared Konoha upon nightfall, the buildings lights all off, with only the street lamps below and moon illuminating the room the serpent sits. Within their hand is a poison coated weapon, which they toy with, mentally envisioning the blade meeting skin. There were a great deal of people who wanted Minato dead - none likely capable of actually killing him. So it is not because they fear someone will find out they are the one who assassinated Lord Fourth. They have gotten away with more brazen crimes... It isn’t even that they fear in a clash, Minato may kill and overpower them instead. Which was just as possible given the mans growth as a shinobi. It is the piercing sound of logic: that Minato dying would not serve to make them Hokage anyway. So when the man finally arrives, and the Fourth Hokage’s figure is within the doorway of his office, the coated dagger is once more hidden within the fabrics of their kimono. Golden eyes reflect little, at least nothing that can be identified as any particular or readable emotion.  “I thought I would stop by to congratulate you,” their raspy voice cuts the silence, as they glance away from Minato to instead gaze down at the few people below in the streets, “you weren’t his first choice, but you were chosen nonetheless.”
