Yo~ I’d like to know more about Kijani. Like, the inspirations, the politics, their culture. I saw many things about Kau, but not so much about Kijani.
I am so glad you asked~ ☺️
Kijani is inspired by Africa~ It is not one nation but a large island that has nine nations~ Also, the West Indies is based on the Caribbean~
Kijani is the largest island in the world
Government System: Various
North-Nubia: Constitutional Monarchy, Presidential Republic
Northeast- Cape Point: Democratic republic
East: City-States, Elder Councils
South: Nomadic tribes, Absolute monarchy
Southwest: Nomadic tribes
West: Dual Executive system
Northwest: Military dictatorship
Allies: Depends on the nation, mostly Alabasta, West Indies, Kau,
North: The northern region is the Savanna area.
Northeast: The northeastern region is an urban area filled with skyscrapers and apartments.
East: The eastern region is a humid and wet area filled with swamps and wetlands. A section of the bayou is called “Orisha Bayou” because that’s where the house of the Orisha lives.
Southeast: The southeastern region is the mountain range area.
South: The southern region is the tropical rainforest region.
Southwest: The southwestern region is the grassland area.
West: The western region is a dry and cold area filled with a temperate forest. A part of the forest is called “The Dark Forest” because that’s where the Ioa fortress is located.
Northwest: The northwestern region is an alpine tundra area filled with mountains and small plant life.
Central: The central region is a desert area and the only place in Kijani that isn’t close to a coastline.
Architecture: The cities would have large skyscrapers. Cape Point in particular would have large apartment buildings with spaces big enough to hold large families. Depending on the region, the houses are either modern with large gates, meant to house immediate family members only, or traditional that holds extended families.
Cuisine: Depends on which region. In general, they eat game, fish, rice, peppers, and vegetables. They love coffee, most particularly in the Northeast and the South, with coffee shops. There are even coffee ceremonies.
Currency: Because of their rejection of Beli, they use their own currency called Crystals, which have the same value as Beli.
Demographics: 85% Native (60% Humans, 25% Longleg, 15% Snakeneck), 10% Kijani-West Indians (Mostly in Cape Point), 5% Other
Fashion: Kijanians wore kente, dashiki, jalabiya, and wrapper. For women, they wear a head tie, a cloth headscarf. In Cape Point, there are more modern clothes to wear there. It is also socially acceptable to wear shorts there.
The Kirikou Stadium: A large stadium located in Cape Point. It is mostly used for soccer and rugby games. It can also be converted into a concert hall. Soccer and rugby are two of the most popular sports in Kijani and the entire island would tune in. It is named after a warrior god, who is also the husband of the Kijani goddess of the Northeast, the sky, moon, night, and heaven, Syel.
Kush Pyramids: A series of ancient pyramids across a vallin in Nubia. They are over 4,000 years old and contained the bodies of the Kandakas, ancient Kush queens. Most of the valuables are gone because a Germa king, Vinsmoke Rage, took all of them, including the ornaments of Oria, the goddess of dawn, the sun, and the North. It is said that the pyramids, along with the capital city, Noba, is guarded by the vengeful spirit of the late Kanadaka Aberash, who was brutally killed and mulitlated by Rage and his three eldest, Blade, Scourge, and Claude.
The Palace of Mansa: A large palace located in the Southwest. In acient times, the palace was decorated by gold, jewels, and other precious materials. It once belong by the Musa family before the region was colonized and had all the gold taken away along with artifacts of Chiamaka, the goddess of the Southeast, beauty, and love.
Alile Oasis: Named after the goddess of Central Kijani, blood, blacksmiths, and metals, the oasis holds a spiritual place in the Kijani mythology and pantheon. It has rare and unique flowers. It is said that the water of the oasis would help heal away the “dark” illnesses by monsters and angered spirits.
(More will come~ This is just the few I could think of~)
History: Due to its large size and natural barriers, Kijani has many separate kingdoms, clans, and tribes. Along with that, it has a very large pantheon. Kush, now called Nubia, was a major ally of Alabasta as they were one of the most powerful during ancient times. Three hundred years ago, the World Government forcibly took over the island and divided it up into nine. Each one was given to nine kingdoms that have proven their loyalty. The treatment of the natives can range from stable and reasonable, like Ottoman, to exploitive, like Rommel and Goa, to downright nightmarish, like Germa and Michelin. The Kijani Kingdoms had collapsed and the people were mistreated. The nations took most of their artifacts, such as statues, masks, paintings, weapons, and religious items, as “payment” or for “research”. The West Indies was used as a “labor colony” in Calm Belt and the North Blue, meaning it is where “indentured workers” reside and where major businesses put their branches. Fifty years prior, the Kijani Independence War, led by the Shango Pirates and its captain, Jabali, who was about ten years old at the time, fought off the Marines with the help from the Sparrow Pirates. Afterwards, the Kijani nations were formed. Since the World Government collapsed, each of the Kijani nations has its own plans on how to have alliances with other nations. The West Indies are an autonomous terrority of Cape Point who is also a part of the World Government and allowed to attend the Reverie. There are also nine blessed tribes around the island, each one represented by a goddess.
