Someone once told me if I jumped high enough, I could touch the sky. I would know I had succeeded because my hand would come back all sticky. I jumped as high as I could, but I failed every time.
Someone once told me if I was fast enough, I could dodge between the raindrops. I dodged as fast as I could, but I got wet.
Someone once told me that if I blew a big enough puff of air, I could blow out the stars, however it would take some time for the breath to get there to blow them out so I should check back in the morning. If there were no stars in the morning I would know I had succeeded. I puffed up my cheeks and blew as hard as I could. When I checked the next morning the stars were gone.
Now of course I know they were just teasing a little kid, but that feeling I had the next morning was amazing. I hadn't touched the sky, I hadn't dodged the rain, but I had done this one amazing thing. I succeeded.
So I still sometimes pretend to blow out the stars because it takes me back to that amazing morning. It's a reminder: Just because I can't do everything, doesn't mean I can't do anything.
