Mafia Ceo Boss Father Law x Secretary Plus Size reader
Summary
It was difficult for the young Mob Boss and CEO, Trafalgar Law, to complete his medical degree in his youth, forced to raise his three troublesome sons, Luffy, Ace, and Sabo, all alone after his beloved young fiancée's passing. He couldn't allow himself to drown in his grief. He still had a multibillion-dollar company to run. With his father-in-law Monkey D Garp and his stubborn uncles Doflamingo and Rosinante Donquixote hounding Law to get remarried, he's already had enough on his plate.
He does agree on one thing.... It's time for his rambunctious boys to have a mother.
And what better mother than his secretary, you.
You were perfect. You were single. You were already a part of his daily life, knew his daily routine and schedule, and the boys adored you to hell and back.
Little do they know that you had sworn off all men and relationships in general after a messy breakup from your toxic ex.
After five years, the bastard tries to come back into your life, swearing he's changed. You knew better than to believe him; what you should have done was ignore him and walk away. It ends in your ex-lover losing his temper and putting his hands on you.
Law won't stand for it when he sees the handprints and bruises after accidentally walking in on you changing. The mob boss is seeing red. The retired Surgeon of Death is rising and clawing back to the surface; no one will steal his beloved secretary and his boy's future mother. Not over his dead, bloody body and dragging that bastard to hell with him first.
💛Chapter 1
It was an ordinary Thursday night.
You were discussing next week's plans and meeting with Trafalgar Law himself, his Vice President Bepo, the polar bear mink, and his fellow team of twenty members of his board as Law's three children waited outside the waiting room, staring boredly through the glass floor to ceiling glass window.
"Do you think they will be done soon?" Sabo murmurs, scribbling in his journal, then taking a mental break by drawing doodles in one of the empty margins.
Ace's dark charcoal eyes continue scrolling on his phone. "It's almost five." His voice lowers in tone.
Luffy continues staring at you. The youngest child between his two older brothers. Ace and Sabo being ten and Luffy being seven years old. He would never fully explain this strange, childish fascination with you. You were so sweet, you were kind, and you never ignored them or tried to butter them up just for appearances' sake. Or bribed them just to shut them up and openly flirt with their father, which a lot of other past secretaries, men and women would do, such unprofessional and gross behavior. Which would cause the boys to spring into action to get rid of them. Until you came.
You already knew Sabo wanted to be a writer. You knew Ace wanted to be a firefighter and knew that Luffy wanted to be a soccer player. You smelled like freshly baked muffins and brown sugar as you handed each of them a muffin you had baked yourself. You even knew what kind of juice they all liked. They saw you hand everyone else muffins and a large to-go carrier filled with black office, which you'd left in the office breakroom.
That was five years ago, when Luffy had been two, Sabo and Ace were five.
Perhaps it was the maternal instinct you already possessed as you held toddler Luffy within your arms, cradling him to your chest whenever he burst into tears as Ace and Sabo clung onto your legs.
At that moment, all three of them knew... knew you were the only one they wanted near their father.
You came out of the conference room, smiling briefly when you saw all three of them sitting quietly, then perking up and smiling at you back as you greeted them. "Well, aren't you three behaving yourself today?"
"Good evening, Miss Y/n." Sabo greeted first.
"Dammit, I wanted to greet Miss Y/n first, Sabo." Ace glared and nudged his brother in the ribs.
"Ow," Sabo glared back, closing his journal. "Why should you? You did it last time!"
"Boys, inside voice, please." You said softly, shifting your attention to Luffy, who was oddly quiet for such a hyper and talkative little daredevil. "Luffy, honey?" You walk over and bend down to his level without overcrowding him. "Are you okay?" Your smile lowers into a genuine and concerned frown. "Are you sick?" You press the back of your wrist to the child's forehead. "You feel warm, but not hot." You stand, pulling your miniature wallet from your back pocket of your pencil shirt. "Thirsty?"
Law watched in the background, leaning against the doorframe after everyone else had departed for the night. Watching you interact with his boys. You wouldn't overly flatter or scold them, you wouldn't resort to yelling, but would keep your tone light and firm whenever you needed to... Even when Luffy didn't want to listen to anybody else but you. It was a miracle, a blessing and almost a curse.
"I, ah… think Miss Y/n looks… beautiful." Luffy bashfully struggled to respond.
"Thank you, Luffy." Your gratitude appeared to make the black-haired boy's embarrassment even worse, and he pulled his straw hat down over his eyes. It didn't hide his blushing cheeks. He quietly spoke up while continuing to fidget with the placement of the toy sailboat, which he'd named 'The Going Merry.'
"I mean," Luffy squeaked, his face turned so red that his heart must have been pounding in his ears, and he immediately looked away. "Your face… is even more beautiful today."
Your frown broke into a bright smile. "Oh? Did you notice the new face cream I bought?" You rubbed your supple and chubby cheek, which grew rosy underneath Luffy's honest compliment. "Is it working? It's supposed to give my skin a healthy glow."
"You mean she's a real moonlight beauty, right, Luffy?" Sabo laughed, smiling and giving his shy and stuttering brother a wink. Coming to his aid. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect.
"Wait, that's not what I meant. I mean, um..." Luffy fumbled with his words again; he couldn't get the words out fast enough, so he opted to agree with Sabo at the last minute. "Well, um... yes." He just stood there shyly fiddling with his hat and ship.
"Again, thank you, Luffy." You rose, patted the top of his straw hat-covered head gently without ruining his favorite hat, and began walking away. "You've really made my night."
"What are you blushing for, Luffy? Has a certain older woman won your heart?" Ace asked, nudging his younger brother as you started talking with their father, when you noticed he stepped closer, drawing your attention as you walked towards one of the vending machines. "It's a first."
"And I'm very curious." Sabo chimed in.
"I'm not sure," Luffy mumbled, staring at the ground. Wishing that he could just keep his mouth shut. Did he have a crush on you? He talked to you before for hours, for days, about anything and everything. How could he ever ignore the moment he wanted to call you mom? "Yeah, but…" Luffy blushed again as Ace and Sabo laughed at his expense, and his gaze restlessly continued to wander straight to you and their father. Watching you laugh at something cheesy and morbid their father had said.
The pair burst into muffled laughter, so as not to draw yours and their father's attention.
Law hummed and pretended not to notice. "Stubborn as always," He muttered to himself as he shook his head.
You chuckled softly, looking over at the trio. "It isn't so bad once they grow up." You pointed out. "It just means they will never give up, nor will their brotherly bond ever break."
Law remained quiet. There was a glint of laughter in his silver eyes and a smile twitching at his lips, a slight curt nod. Law silently agreed with Luffy's compliment; you did look beautiful. You had always been beautiful to him. He didn't care about your extra weight, your plus-size curves, which he'd sweep over with a wordless appreciative gaze whenever you weren't looking. He wanted to place a kiss on every freckle and beauty mark, marrying your shoulders and inch of exposed skin. Or your soft and glossy, peach colored lips to match the peach sleeveless satin blouse you wore today with your tight, black pencil skirt, which hugged and molded your curves and wide hips perfectly. Law wanted nothing more than to run his hands over every lush curve as he worshipped you like the goddess that you were. He thought about it every night in his dreams... for the last five years.
Tonight, Law was dreading the conversation and multi-zoom call he was going to have with his adoptive uncles and ex-father-in-law tonight after he put the boys to bed.
If Law had known what would have happened that night after you left the building. He would have offered to take you home himself. He would have ordered his men to begin packing your apartment by the end of the week. He would have done anything rather than let you roam the streets alone. Unguarded. Unprotected. He'd come to regret it for the rest of his days.
You waved Trafalgar Law, Ace, Sabo, and Luffy goodnight with a cheery smile.
You had walked from your workplace to your house a million times within the last five years without the fear of anything happening to you. This was a good neighborhood, expensive, but good. Absolutely worth it, every last berri. Whenever you wanted to go and have lunch with Nami, Robin, and Yamato, then you could without feeling guilty. You've worked hard for your paycheck. You deserve a little treat, every now, and then, every other week, just a small one.
Little did you know that your ex was waiting for you outside your apartment building door.
You were singing to yourself. "Yo-hohoho, Yo-hoho-ho." That silly little ol' pirates' song, Bink's Brew, Ace, Luffy, and Sabo would sing while playing pirates. "Gather up all of the crew!" You swung the lanyard, holding your house keys around your index finger, smiling and swaying back and forth, singing to your heart's content. "It's time to ship out Bink's brew!" You pumped your free hand into the air without a care in the world. "Sea wind blows." Bending your arm to cover your eyes as if you were watching the horizon from a crows net on a real pirate's ship. "To where? Who knows?" You shrug, jump, and skip up the stairs one, two at a time. "The waves will be our guide!" You blink, opening your eyes. Your smile falters. The next verse dies in your throat as you gasp, taking a step back. "What the hell are you doing here?"
There. Leaning, drunk, and in dirty, unwashed, strained clothes was your ex-boyfriend, five years ago. The one who tore you down. The one who would judge you on your job, clothes, your weight, and claimed that you were bad at sex. Stupid drunk, jealous jackass. "Now, is that any sort' of' way to greet your boyfriend, pretty?" He offered a bright, fake charming smile, which he'd only wear whenever he wanted something. "What kinda fancy desk job do you have now?" He looked you up and down like a rattlesnake, appraising a fat, juicy, and plump mouse for its next meal.
Ew. Was all you thought. "Ex-boyfriend." You corrected him softly, trying to keep your face neutral and your tone civil as to not awake the neighbors. "It's late, and you are drunk." You clutch your hand around your house key into a white-knuckled fist. Dammit, of all the times to leave your pepper spray or handgun inside your apartment. You should have kept it on your person like Law and Ikkaku said. Rookie mistake. "Good night." You try to walk around him, but he blocked your path.
"Y/n." Your ex said your name. A warning tone that hit your stomach like an invisible physical blow, "Y/n, sweetheart. Don't be difficult." It was a voice you had spent the last half a decade forgetting and bleaching out of your memories. You knew he wouldn't warn you again before he decided to try and verbally strike you again or worse, get physical. A voice that used to whisper gently to you before the words tumbled out harsher, colder, harder, and always apologized come sunrise.
No. You wouldn't give in. You'd fought him tooth and nail before you'd ever allow him a single goddamn dime of your money, your body, or your heart. Your heart had already belonged to someone else. A taller, dark-haired, sharp silver-eyed, gloomy and serious man who treated you with respect and didn't see you as an object, and his three free-spirited, stubborn, and recklessly sweet boys you adore so much. Trafalgar Law wasn't just a Ceo; you knew his secret. He was a mob boss, one that spanned generations after the Donquixote brothers' younger sister fell in love with Law's father.
You knew Law adored and deeply loved his fiancée, the mother of his children. Portgas D. Rouge. You had seen pictures of the woman; she was beautiful. A slender woman with long, wavy pink-blonde hair adorned with a pink hibiscus flower on the left side of her head. She had the same dark eyes as Ace and Luffy. It was a shame that such a strong woman's life had been cut too soon shortly after Luffy's birth. Law had become a broken man at the height of his medical career as a surgeon; his world crumbled into pieces. The love of his life was gone, leaving him with three children to raise all alone. You would often walk behind Law and hold the boy's hands whenever they visited her grave together in the family crypt. Law always carried pink hibiscus to her grave, her favorite flowers.
You didn't want to be selfish and shove your crush or feelings of love onto Law when he clearly still remained devoted to his dearly departed ex-fiancée. You decided to watch from the shadows while keeping your distance aside from helping Law in his daily life, watching and helping his boys grow. You were perfectly content being single the rest of your life. No matter how lonely you felt. No matter how painful it became when Law danced with someone else at parties.
He's only being nice, you told yourself.
He's slowly repaying your kindness back, wordlessly and forward with his own kindness whenever he'd walk you home.
Orders you an extra frappe and a slice of cheesecake or your favorite chocolate tiramisu chocolate cake on your birthday.
Someday, someone will make Law smile again... even if, it isn't me. You told yourself. That's all you'd ever want.
"There you go spacing out again." Your ex sighed, stepping closer into your space.
The fine hairs on the back of your neck stood up; you froze. You should have turned around and fled. You should have bolted down the stairs, risking falling down or slipping on the hard, wet pavement instead of stubbornly continuing forward. Maybe, if you ignored him. Would the ghost disappear? Your hand tightened harder around your keys and lanyard, the metal key and ring biting into your skin. "What do you want?" Half turning and back towards the edge of the top of the metal stairwell.
"What's wrong?" Your ex asked parroted in a mocking tone, mimicking your voice into a lower, feminine pitch. "What rich, dumbass did you sucker into buying you new fancy clothes or hire you for a job after blowin' him under the desk? Hmm?" He stepped closer; his unwashed, wrinkled clothes smelled, paired with the combination of cheap liquor and a sour stench wafting into your nose. He hadn't showered in weeks. You tried not to gag or throw up your late-night takeout Law ordered on the company card for everyone. You didn't want to waste good wine or chicken alfredo from The Baratie.
You could take the harsh comments about your clothes, which Nami, Robin, and Vivi helped you pick out after hours of shopping. Finding perfect clothes that hugged and molted your thick curves like a glove, instead of hiding them. Wearing them with unapologetic grace and pride.
He could say whatever he wanted about your weight. Or your clothes. But you would be damned if he ever threw it in your face that you won your dream job without giving Law, or any other man, a blowjob underneath the table. You saw red. Your cheeks burned from the accusation and embarrassment. "You are disgusting." You wrinkled your nose. "I don't have to explain myself to you," Your voice was firm and final. "Now get out." You pointed down the stairs, your back straight, your tone dead flat.
Maybe, if you were lucky, your extremely tall, large, and muscular biker, donut-loving neighbor, Katakuri, would be awake and outside returning from his late-night shift from Mama's Pâtisserie. The giant pinkish crimson-haired man in his late forties was so sweet to you. He's often shared his leftovers with you or given you special discounts to share to bring new customers in. He'd even offered to take you out, or offer off the menu services, if you were ever interested. Oh, you had been tempted. You'd seen him devour donuts whole. His scarred skin and sharp eel-like fangs never bothered you. They were attractive. And if you weren't so lost and in love with Law, then perhaps in another life you would have chosen Katakuri Charlotte. It wasn't meant to be.
You didn't cower. You didn't cry. Or apologize. You absolutely wouldn't apologize for existing and living life to the fullest. You hide in the shadows, but you also knew how to live within the light. Your friends needed you; Law needed you and so did his three boys.
Katakuri's words came back to you as you stared at your ex's wide, disbelieving and cold eyes as he tried to back pedal and mentally dismantle you. Shocked at this confidence you've wrapped yourself in after five years.
"Remember, no man can have power to control you unless you let them," Katakuri murmured, simply as he towered over you, a mix of overprotectiveness, adoration, and hunger burning in his dark eyes. Katakuri had a weakness for soft, plus-size women. He adores their generous curves, swells of their wide hips and full breasts; all the more to hold and love within his hands. Yet, he knew the moment you began to talk about your boss and his children? Katakuri knew he'd lost your heart and never offered to crawl into your bed again.
You felt a fleeting hint of pity and an overwhelming sense of pure disgust. "I won't ask you again." You reached behind your back pocket, unlocked your phone, and hit a series of numbers, sending a silent signal for Katakuri that you were in trouble. That he needed to hurry home. Maybe if you pretended Katakuri was your boyfriend, your ex would back the hell off?
Your ex raked his bloodshot, drunk and angry, hazed eyes down your body. He took in the expensive shirt, the tight pencil skirt, the heels, and cardigan sweater. "Either you are tutoring someone, or you are some high-end rich old bastard's little errand girl, pushing papers, kissing his ass and sucking his dick for extra cash." He sneered. The resentment bubbled up within his gut, anger and jealousy rolling off him in waves. "Having fun playing dress-up? Acting like some rich ass snob?" His flushed face redder. His perfectly crafted, professional mask cracking, revealing the desperate, vicious and cornered animal he truly was. "Look at you, Y/n, I hardly recognize you anymore." His eyes dropped to the designer handbag the boys gave you for a birthday present. They insisted on it. Getting their combined initials and their fathers' on the inside of the bag, "ASL and TL?" His voice a low, venomous hiss as he invaded your personal space. "Are they pampering you for sexual favors?"
You lose it. You slap him hard against the face, your inner palm stinging from the loud slap of skin against skin contact. Your wrist ached, but it wasn't broken. Your ex remained quiet. Your heart hammering violently within your ribcage, kicking him in the groin twice for good measure and then punching him in the jaw as you watched past him. "Say whatever you want about me, but I work a helluva lot harder than you do." You said one final time, briskly walking down the stairs. "Don't you dare slander their names again from your filthy mouth." Maybe, if you hurry, you will meet Katakuri heading home? You didn't dare want to ask Law to substitute in as your fake boyfriend. "Goodbye and never speak to me again." You huff, gripping tight onto the railing.
He didn't quit. Never wanted to let things go, unless he said so. He thrived on using his strength, power, and influence as he saw fit. "If you ever try this again, I swear to god sweetheart that what I do next will feel like a gentle tickle compared to what they will do to your pretty little ass." He snarls, digging his fingers into your ribcage as his other hand twists you around to wrap all five of his digits cage your throat. Followed by a backhand across your face.
White hot sparks of pain bloomed behind your eyelids as you choked on your screams of agony and terror; digging your manicured nails into your captor's face and his neck, trying to deal as much damage as possible. Kata, hurry! You wheeze. An eye for a fucking eye fucktard! You mentally hiss, lifting your legs and pushing against him. You didn't care, if you fell down the stairs at this point, if you took this fucker with you, then it would be worth it. Bleed, sicky, hot blood that wasn't yours spilled down your hands, seeping beneath your nails with another slash of your claws.
It was only after the sound of heavy footfalls fastly approaching did your scumbag of an ex drop you at the top of the stairwell.
"Who the hell are you, creepin' over her?" Katakuri's giant presence appeared, his deep voice a low rumbling grumble of unmistakable rage and fury.
"Are you another brute the whore is paying to fuck her?" You ex spat, masking his fright through his narrowing, burning gaze through his injured and bloody face.
Katakuri's jaw clenched tight, his fangs and teeth grinding beneath his heavy, wool scarf covering his mouth. "I dare you to say that again, bastard?"
"K-Kata...." You crooked; your voice was barely a whisper. As you coughed violently, panting and gasping greedily for air, meeting the pinkish crimson haired man's sharp and intense crimson eyes softening a tad to reveal his worried expression.
"I understand, littl' mochi." Katakuri said, using his endearing nickname for you after his second favorite dessert; the soft, sweet and cute Japanese treat. The towering man steps forward, the spurs on his boots clacking on the hard pavement; his inner aura and dangerous, malicious intent seeping outward into the night air. "You have exactly five seconds before I bash y'er head in."
Your ex seemed to sober up. His cocky face turned ashen and sickly pale as he took in Katakuri's full height, his tanned skin, wall of solid muscles and pink ink decorating his arms, pectorals, chest, trailing beneath his black, leather vest, over his shoulders and abdomen, down to his well-defined waist and large, broad back. The giant appeared untouchable, unshakable, a living modern-day goliath in black leather. The silence that followed as Katakuri reached the bottom of the stair well was dangerous. "W-wait?" Your ex stammered, stepping backward and slamming his back against the railing.
"Would you have stopped your shameful actions, if she'd begged?" Katakuri tilted his head, eyes him with an eerie, predatory, dark and intense stare. "No." He answered for the other man. "I don't think so." He grumbled, a sneer of disgust rising on the tip of his fanged mouth as he stepped one booted foot onto the railing, purposefully taking agonizingly slow, graceful and heavy footsteps upward. His eyes fixed evenly ahead, his voice a deathly, deadly calm.
You can't help, but smirk. That's what you adore about Katakuri Charlotette, the man doesn't stand for any women he cares about being mistreated. His mother, his younger sisters or you. It wasn't long until Katakuri reached you, lowering and scooping you in his singular large arm, holding you with care; briefly flickering his gaze to take in your injured form up closer, then gently pulling you back against his warm, heated and inked chest.
"Can you still move?" Katakuri asks, skipping the final view steps on the stairwell, standing on the landing. He can see your body beginning to swell beneath his fingertips. "Could be a fracture, or a break."
"Yes." You mumble, eyes closing. "Barely." You wince.
You ex pissed himself and passed out, bonking the back of his head against the railing.
Katakuri growls. "Pussy." He spat, raising a boot heel and purposefully stomping on his hands. His feral snarl widens when he hears a satisfying crunch, he bends down, picking him up with one hand, dangling his unconscious body over the dumpster and drops him. "I'll call Sengoku." He mutters to himself as the pink, crimson hair giant turns towards his apartment, unlocking the key and slipping inside with you. "Then we will take you to a hospital."
You don't say anything as he wraps you in a blanket, pulling out his phone and calling with one hand. "Direct me to chief of police Sengoku." He orders without manners as he steps back out.
"No, h-hospitals, Kata.." You beg, cracking open an eye. "Can't.. miss work."
Katakuri paused mid-step. "Can't risk y'er health, if your rib pierces your lung, littl' mochi." His grip on his phone, tightening, the device groaning beneath his fierce grip.
You furiously shake your head. "Gotta work tomorrow." One of your hands sneak out of the thick blanket and grip Katakuri's black leather vest. "Please?" You begged, gritting your teeth through the pain and dizziness. "They need me."
Sengoku's voice answered. "Hello, this is chief Sengoku?"
Katakuri started down at your tear-filled eyes, his resolve and stubbornness crumbling as he sighed, closing his eyes this time. "Sengoku this is Katakuri Charlotte."
"Katakuri?" Sengoku's formal tone slipped. "What's the matter?" It had been thanks to Katakuri's biker gang in his younger years that had saved Sengoku and many of his men back in the day. "Are you hurt?"
"No, but I've caught a creepy, drunk and violent bastard assaulting one of my neighbors." Katakuri took a deep breath to try and calm his nerves and cool his temper.
"How's the victim?" Sengoku rose from his chair, slipping on his white raincoat, stuffed his bag of rice crackers inside his desk drawer, wiped the crumbs off his fingers, mouth and beard with a stack of napkins while muttering to his fellow men he's heading out.
Katakuri could hear Kizaru, Aokiji, and Smoker asking questions over each other, attempting to follow after being commander, which would become a bigger problem, if they wanted to keep things quiet for now. "She bruised and injured." He sat down cross-legged in the doorway, lowering your gently down between his legs while still cradling you gently to his warm body. "I've got'er."
"Any relationship to the victim?" Sengoku fired off, his tone hard. "Male or female?" The sound of the Chief officer getting into his car, starting the engine and began to drive off faster than what was required. He flipped on the red and blue lights.
"Woman." Katakuri felt his insides boiling and reigniting with uncontrollable rage, both at himself for arrive too late and for the assholes earlier rude, crude remark. "Sounded like an ex-lover given the disgusting and disrespectful comments he spat." He reopened his eyes to see you sleeping.
"Does she have a concussion?" Sengoku asks to fill the silence.
"It's mostly her side and neck." Katakuri answered with a heavy heart.
"Regardless, I need her conscious to get a statement." Sengoku tried to say gently.
"Alright, I'll try. Stay safe, Sengoku." Katakuri hung up. He found you fast asleep. "Gotta stay awake, littl' one." He muttered, patting your unbruised cheek with tenderness. "C'mon, sweet mochi." His thumb caressed the back of your chubby cheek.
Your eyelids fluttered open. "Kata?"
Katakuri's fanged mouth twitched and quirked into a hint of a smile beneath his scarf. It took everything within him not to smother you with tender kisses on your face. "Gotta stay awake, Sengoku is coming."
Your eyes widen as you took in a painful breath full of air. "Dammit... anybody but him." You hissed.
Katakuri's brows furrowed. "Why?" He's confused. "Sengoku is the best and closest to our location." He felt like he was forgetting something important. "He's better than Smoker or Kizaru. They'd wouldn't leave until they had every last detail."
"They are under Trafalgar's payroll..." You groan in exasperation, furiously rubbing your tired eyes.
Shit, that's what he'd forgotten. Sengoku was the adoptive god father of Trafalgar Law and adopted father of Rosinante Donquixote. "It's too late to call off Sengoku." Katakuri grumbled, keeping is intense and unwavering gaze focused on the man who caused this whole mess.
Sengoku arrived.
You knew it would be a long night when Chief Captain, Sengoku the Buddha showed up at Katakuri's door. There's no way Law wouldn't know by sunrise what happened tonight. You thought as the tall Chief of police loomed over you.
He recognized you, you knew, you watched recognition flash within the older man's eyes, his long, braided, bearded goatee swaying in the breeze. "Y/n L/n?" Sengoku muttered quietly, his gaze leaving you to the man passed out in the stairs. His cool temper snapped as he snarled down at your ex as he kicked him roughly in the side. "This bastard hasn't suffered nearly enough."
The smug satisfaction you would have felt had you not been injured became an afterthought as you fought to remain conscious. "Agreed." You chuckled weakly.
"Wait, mochi." Katakuri called your nickname. "Don't fall asleep-"
Everything went black.
----- hours later ----
Law should have known something was wrong the moment you arrived late to work, limping, panting and over exhausted. He'd been so busy, paperwork getting constantly pushed into his face from sunup to sundown. He couldn't help the nagging feeling churning tight within his gut, or his years of a honed danger sense and medical side screaming at him from the back of his head.
Law would soon come to regret not checking in on you sooner.
How could he have known?
Known that the object of his secret affection and obsession had been hurt right underneath his nose.
Thirty minutes close to clocking out you requested going home early by text. Not by email. Not in person. Text. It should have been Law's warning sign. You always talked to him in person. No matter how big or small the emergency was.
Trafalgar Law watched you pull a small pink and black tote bag beneath your desk and heated towards the lady's restroom. Could you have started your cycle? He didn't see you make yourself hot chocolate you craved during your lunar cycle which you would add to your coffee or protein shakes. That couldn't have been it. He always made sure your favorite snacks, and sanitary products were fully stocked every month.
When he saw you coming back, the tension in his chest and shoulders finally relented and he got back to work before meeting his boys downstairs.
The moment you saw Law disappear behind the company elevator you jumped out of your seat, grabbed your emergency spare key to his office, yanked your tote bag and rushed inside his office, closing the door behind you. You could have changed your clothes in the bathroom, however, your anxiety that someone could have busted in kept nagging you. So you decided to wait. Wait until Law was gone to fully changed your bandages and sweaty clothes, then go home... much to both Katakuri's and Senguku's insistence.
You should have known the universe wasn't too kind.
You should have reapplied your heavy makeup and thickest concealer in the bathroom, but you had been too tired to do it.
The door to Trafalgar Law's office opened.... and Law, himself came in.
Law hadn't meant to walk in while you were changing.
He was too sleep deprived and spaced out to pay attention that the door had been unlocked, instead of locked. He'd simply walked in without knocking, without checking if the space ahead of him was being used or occupied. When Law opened the door and stepped into the room, he's glaze had been focused entirely on the floor until he noticed a very familiar pair of black mary jane heels. He'd glanced up, and what he saw caughed the mafia boss's brain to short circuit. You had been changing; you stood there in the middle of his private office, changing clothes. Shirtless, except for the baby blue strap and lace bralette hugging and molding perfectly against your chest. Then Law saw something that had his blood run cold before restarting up again in giant, uncontrollable bursts of fiery fury, possessiveness, and outrage. He saw them. He saw the bruises you were painstakingly hiding.
Law had opened the door at the worst possible moment.
He saw the bruises you'd spent all day trying to hide. "It's rude not to knock, Trafalgar, sir." You muttered, covering the front of your chest with your sweater, chubby cheeks coloring a bright shade of pink.
He no longer stared at the woman he'd spent months pretending not to care about, not to love, but the damage and deep human, man-shaped fingers coloring your arm and hiding beneath your pastel pink turtleneck sweater jolted him awake like a bucket of ice-cold water. His golden eyes narrowed, his tanned, inked hand tightened on the doorknob; the metal beneath his white-knuckled palm groaned. "Who hurt you, Y/n-ya?" Who dared hurt my secretary behind my back? Fresh, deep purple and blue bruises scattered across your forearm and neck like someone wanted to be cruel and make you suffer on purpose with their own hands. One curved upward in the shape of fingers. The one around your neck, searing into your skin like a brand, nearly made his temper reach its breaking point. "I'll won't ask for a third time, Y'n-ya." Law muttered, his tone hard and dark. "Who hurt you? Who did this?" he took a slow step forward, closing the door behind him. Raising his burning and disgusted gaze back to your furiously flustered face.
"It isn't your concern, sir." You replied, meeting his eyes through wide, terrified, and tear-stained cheeks. This was the worst possible scenario. Your heart leapt to your throat. You were crying so hard, you couldn't breathe.
Law stopped as if you had raised a fully loaded gun between you two. You were proud of your body. You were inwardly proud for making such a hot and powerful man such as Trafalgar Law stop and remain motionless for a few seconds as he saw you half undressed. No. You were ashamed at keeping such a petty and personal secret away from him.
You turned around, giving him your back. "Please... just..." You sigh. "Please look away until I'd done changing at least, sir?" You muttered shakily.
Law turned away instantly to give you some semblance of privacy back. "You are right." Clarity returned to him as his hand remained on the doorknob, and angelic his face towards the hallway. "Forgive me for overstepping, Y/n-ya." He said, his voice controlled and low; his usual flat tone back in place. "I'd forgotten my car keys."
"That's alright." You released a shaky breath. The rustling of fabric filled the awkward silence. You quietly recomposed yourself back into your quiet, silent professionalism you clung onto like permanent pieces of armor.
Law remained rooted to the spot, trying not to overly fidget; his stern jawline falling to a worried frown, keeping himself busy by scanning the empty hallway and remaining on high alert. He should have known something was wrong when you were quieter today. You had simply faded into the background among the overly crowded and busy workers coming and going, scrambling to make their last-minute deadlines and perfecting tomorrow's demands. He should have noticed when you'd hide your pain from him, carrying fewer piles in your injured arm; he missed all of it. All. Of. It. His knuckles clenched hard, blunt nails digging into his palm, muscles bunching and bulging beneath his dress shirt. I'm pathetic. Law mentally cursed and chastised himself. How can I ever confess, if I can't recognize when she's hurt?
Fully dressed and presentable, you waited for Law to turn. He didn't. You licked your bottom lip nervously, then slowly shifted closer, reached out, and grabbed the back of his shirt. "Thank you, sir." You murmured, and he moved to check the bandage from your shoulder, your arm and neck. Your heart skipped a few beats when he half-turned, his golden eyes immediately locking on your eyes.
He tilts his head, the angle allows the outside lights and the moon to fall across his features, darkening half of his stern face. His dark eyes, brows and black hair tousled yet styled back, highlighting his sharp cheekbones and his nearly trimmed goatee in the same shade of ebony black. Trafalgar Law looks like he should be on a cover of a billionaire's most eligible bachelors' magazine, front cover and center page with a sexy, teasing spread and his cocky smirk on fully display. "You were fortunate," Law spoke at last; his eyes trailed over the fair exposed skin. "Nothing appears to be broken, and it's healing correctly." His gaze met your relieved and calm eyes. "However, I'm still escorting you to the hospital in the morning for X-rays." His deep and unshakeable voice sounded strangely soft and gentle.
You heard tiny, muffled gasps, drawing your attention. "It looks like we have a miniature audience." You slightly nudged your chin to the right behind Law; the rest of your body froze.
It was true, all three of his sons were stealing glances. Their turfs of black and blonde hair peeked through the half-shut office door, but the most noticeable was Luffy, who was openly staring. Sabo exchanged a glance with Ace, and the two of them swept up behind Luffy to drag him away, no matter his protest.
Law raised a hand towards you, hovering and then pausing in mid-air. His tanned, inked, and strong hand levitated above the door, coiling around your arm, mentally fuming and categorizing the road map to memory; whoever dared touch you. He would make them hurt, bleed, and beg to heaven that someone else, but the Surgeon of Death had found him. "We'll wake up at seven am." His hand dropped slowly to his side. "And you will take a few days off."
"We?" You repeated.
"Yes, you will be crashing at my house tonight." Law said without meeting your gaze as he furiously typed something onto his phone.
You opened your mouth to protest, but he interrupted again. "No, that is a direct order." He narrowed his eyes, adding a hint of authority to his firm tone. Leaving no room for argument. "Seven am sharp, no later." He escorted you out, grabbing his keys off his desk, locked his office door, and followed your down the long, silent hallway, business elevator, and ordered one of his men to drive you home.
You resist the urge to sigh. Slowly, you turn your gaze back to the man sitting across from you. You have no idea what he's thinking. Or why you felt the need for his approval and anxiously waiting for his approval. "What is it that you want?"
He rolls his tense shoulders; the edge of his mouth pulls up into a smirk. "For my secretary to get better." There was that lowkey possessiveness again.
"Very well, sir." You mumbled at last, hugging your tote bag and purse to your chest. You signed, leaning back in the leather seat. You should have known the ex-surgeon and doctor within the CEO wasn't going to budge. I need to message Katakuri or else he'll worry. You think as you pass out again.
Law's cocky smile lowered into a deeply concerned frown as he allowed himself to drink in your tired frame. He moved to sit directly beside you, reaching out his arm, gently bringing you closer into his side without waking you, his skilled and professional fingers, searching for any signs of a break or fracture. He released a calming breath. He was right. It was a fracture. No ribs were broken. Yet if he had to, he could rent medical equipment from his previous workplace and hospital; he knew Doctor Tony Tony Chopper and Doctorine would give him anything he wanted without questions asked. He continued probing without unbuttoning or removing anything. Mapping every injury like a road map in his head, noticing every subtle move or hissing breath of slight discomfort until his hand rested at the curve in your hip, snuggling you closer until he was fully satisfied with feeling your weight and warms against his body.
Law started down at the messages on his phone.
One missed call from Sengoku.
Several unread texted from Rosinante.
and the text from you.
Y/n-ya: I don't feel well. I need to go home.
---- Within The private home of The Trafalgar residence -----
Ace and Sabo watched their father in silence. They knew him better than anyone. Somehow his composure seemed off, posture more rigid than before he'd went back to fetch his keys. "Am I crazy or is dad tense?"
"You aren't." Sabo lowered his voice to a low whisper between them. "What other excuse is there for Dad to be far more interested in glaring at that window and lock jawed."
Luffy snuck behind his brothers. "Whatcha whispering for?" He asked quietly. "Is it a game? Is there meat?"
Both Sabo and Ace bonked their sibling on the head. "No, dummy." Ace hissed, lowering Luffy's head father down to give him a hard nuggy. "Dad's upset about something."
"He was just fine until he went back into his office." Sabo interrupted.
The temperature in the room dropped; all three boys froze. "Uh oh."
They all slowly turned around to come back to face their father, his smile tight and strained.
"Shouldn't you three be brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed?" Their father said simply, crossing his arms and tapping his index finger; his patience spread too thin.
"Yes, sir." All three said, giving sheepish smiles and then fleeing. "Goodnight."
"I'll be up in twenty minutes," Law answered, closing his eyes and sighing. His face fell, his body untensing.
As all three boys were crawling into their beds after brushing their teeth, Ace crossed his arms, glaring at the ceiling. "You heard Dad, right? Y/n was hurt, and Dad's freaking out."
"I mean, can you blame him?" Sabo frowned, fiddling and twirling with his fountain pen in between his fingers. "His crush is hurt right underneath Dad's nose, and he missed it."
Luffy's half-asleep and fogged mind snapped awake. "Somebody hurt Y/n?!" He yelled, forcing both Sabo and Ace to jump from their beds and into Luffy's to tackle him and cover his mouth.
"Quiet down, Luffy," Ace hissed. "Dad will hear you."
"It's just like playing pirates again and burying our secret cash stash all over again in the woods." Sabo groaned in frustration and annoyance. "Those rival gang the blue jam wannabe pirates nearly found it, if Luffy hadn't howled like a howler monkey."
Luffy's angry and muffled retorts were silenced underneath both Ace's and Sabo's stronger grips.
"What are you two doing to your younger brother now?" Law called, drawing all three boys' attention.
All six pairs of eyes locked onto their father, leaning against the doorway of their shared bedroom. "Dad." Ace and Sabo scrambled to get off of Luffy; Sabo nearly fell off the bed and dragged Ace down with him, if the eldest hadn't gripped hard on the bedframe for dear life.
Law sighed, uncrossing his arm to run a hand through his hatless, unruly obsidian locks. "Care to explain why you two are ganging up on your brother again?" He raised a singular brow as he leaned away from the doorframe and stepper closing into the room, using his longer legs and taller frame to his advantage to take shorter strides towards the edge of Luffy's bed. "Or do I have to ground all three of you when I specifically asked you to stay inside the car?"
Luffy was the first to crack. "Why's Y/n hurt?"
Sabo and Ace sighed, Sabo frowning and Ace glaring at the floor. "Did a bad man hurt her?" Ace asked first.
Law should have known; all three of his boys were nuts about you, even overprotective as himself. "I don't know all the details, boys." His gaze softened as he sat down, legs spread, elbows on his knees and rubbing his aching forehead, his other hand covering half of his face. "Regardless, you three shouldn't have eavesdropped."
Luffy, Ace, and Sabo apologized, frowning and filled with guilt.
Such stubborn, sweet boys he has. Law turned to give them his attention, stretching his arm and giving them a small smile. "C'mere, boys." Immediately, all three of them brightened and rushed forward and hugged their dad tight, their eyes glazed with unshed tears despite smiling. "Whatever happens, you three have to remember to be considerate of Y/n-ya's feelings in this matter," Law advised gently, hugging all three, closing his eyes and wishing he could hug you too. "If she wants to talk about it, she will."
"Yes, dad." All three of them said out loud.
"Hey, we can become her bodyguards," Ace suggested, pulling away.
"Yeah, we are stronger than any ol' small fry!" Sabo cheered, holding his fountain pen like a dagger.
"I'm beat someone real good, if that bad man comes back." Luffy huffed, puffing out his chest, smoke coming out of his nostrils as he pounded his chest.
"Real combat is far messier than your fights with each other." Law frowned. He knew Ace and Sabo were strong on their own; Luffy had a warrior's heart, same as his sons and Law himself when he was a child. "You could get hurt."
"We can carry our metal pipes, Dad," Sabo suggested. "Uncle Franky and long nose helped remake our pipes into compact power poles." He jumped to Ace's bed and then onto his own, moving his pillow, pulling out a metal device, turning to face their dad with a wide, satisfied and toothy grin. He pushed a button and the metal extended into a fully functioning metal power pole and pipe. "See! See! We will be able to clobber someone real good, dad."
Law stood; he couldn't hide his curiosity and fascination. "Franky-Ya and Usopp-ya made this?" He took the offered weapon, testing its weight; it was sturdy. He twirled it with ease as if the weapon had already become an extension of his arm. "It's impressive." He handed it gently and carefully back to Sabo.
Luffy and Ace had gotten their own portable weapons in hand, all three of them crossing metal poles as if they were swords, or the three musketeers. Which had become their current obsession, if they weren't playing pirates. "All for one and one for all." The three of them chanted, raising their arms high into the air.
"Alright, my little brave and nosy musketeers, it's time for all good little warriors to go to bed." Law went to the kids' bookshelf and pulled out "The Three Musketeers." He sat down in the middle of Ace's bed, propping himself up against the pillows; Ace snuggled onto his left, Sabo onto his left, and Luffy sat in the middle, hugging his Hercules beetle stuffed animal. "We have to finish this chapter and then go to bed."
"We promise." All three of them promised, eyes full of excitement and childlike curiosity.
"Cross your hearts?" Law chuckled, opening the book to the last page he'd read the night before.
"Cross our hearts, Captain." All three of them swore, crossing an x over the middle of their chests.
"That's my boys." Law ruffled each of their hair with a hand, smiling softly as he began to read. Hearing thier fathers soothing voice eventually lulled them to sleep, Luffy falling asleep first, then Sabo until it was only Law and Ace stubbornly awake.
"Hey, dad?" Ace called out softly, helping put Luffy into bed as Law picked up Sabo and set him gently back into his bed.
"Yes, son?" Law said without turning around, covering Sabo up with a blanket.
"Is Y/n going to be our new mom?" A hint of hesitation and uneasy plaguing the young freckled and black-haired boy.
Law froze, inwardly tensed, and his breath left his lungs in a hissing rush. "Why do you think that?" He asked after regaining his voice, unable to turn around without feeling his cheeks scalding hot or his heartbeat pounding erratically in his chest.
"You've never been this worried about another woman... since mom." Ace frowned, something frail and small fluttering within his aching chest. Luffy had been so young when their mother died from her illness. Ace and Sabo knew that one day, it would become a possibility for their father to remarry... they weren't truly prepared as they thought. His gaze shifted to the picture on his nightstand, their mother holding all three of them smiling brightly. Their mother had been so loving, so caring, and beautiful. Her brown eyes and freckles mirrored Ace's own; her long, wavy, strawberry blonde hair and the pink hibiscus flower had been a permanent image buried in Ace's mind whenever he though of his mother. Here, she'd been strong, loving, and truly happy before she'd gotten sick. Before his father's and their world fell to pieces. The exhaustion of the birth combined with the chemo eventually took its toll on her. Ace will never forget him and Sabo crying for their mother as she fell asleep for one last time, their father holding baby Luffy and choking on his own unshed tears.
Law walked back to Ace's bed, picking him up and curling him into his arms, sitting on his lap. "Ace, nobody could ever replace your mother." His voice came out soft and shaky. Clearly, tonight's conversations both with you and his boys were going to be heavy, which Law wasn't prepared for. He's already mentally and physically drained. He wasn't dating you yet, and it appeared his sons had clearly discussed this topic amongst themselves and without him. "I do... like Y/n." He admitted, swallowing thickly, and gave Ace's body a reassuring hug and light squeeze. "However, I don't know if she will eventually become my girlfriend or something more. Only the future will tell."
Ace pulled away. "But she'd be perfect for you." He gushed out of nowhere, turning and facing his father. "She doesn't talk to me like I'm an idiot, she puts up with Luffy's constant yapping, and she praised Sabo's writing." He listed off your interactions with them.
"Who told you you were an idiot?" Law asked, growing defensive.
"Daadan." Ace crossed his arms over his chest, his face half pouting in displeasure and give an I told you so face.
"Daadan is always chasing after you boys," Law smirked, ruffling Ace's hair. "You three are going to give her a heart attack if Grandpa Garp doesn't."
