Drabble Day 7: Thunderstorm
Prompt from @deancaskiss' s drabble writing challenge
"Did you know that Jupiter has a thunderstorm that can swallow the Earth?" a small voice whispered from the dark. Dean startled, clutching at his blanket, his heart in his throat.
"Cas?" Dean whispered softly, trying not to wake Sam, sleeping across the room.
"Technically speaking the storm is an anticyclonic storm," Cas continued as he finally emerged from the dark, climbing onto the motel bed smoothly. "Its been raging for more than-"
"An anti-what now," Dean interrupted as Cas settled beside him, pulling the covers over them both and huddling down further into the bed. "Cas, you're so weird. I'm 9, not a baby, I'm not afraid of some-" CCRRAACCKK
Dean let out a high pitched yelp as a another clap of thunder shook the room. Diving further into the bed, Dean pulled the covers over his head and looked at Cas, his small face pinched in slight puzzlement.
"I'm not afraid," Dean repeated more forcefully, despite every bit of evidence to the contrary. "I'm not."
"It's okay, Dean," Cas said softly, with a gentle smile. "I'll watch over you."
Dean relaxed finally and smiled at the boy next to him. "I know," Dean whispered, reaching out for the other boy's hand. "Thanks, Cas."
CCRRRAACCCKKK-BBBOOOOMMMM
Dean ducked his head once again as Sammy's high cry pierced the dark, "DEAN!?!" Dean heard the sound of small feet scuttling across the floor, followed by the weight of a 35-pound five-year-old slamming into his own small frame.
"Oof," Dean let out, wrapping his arms around his little brother. "Heya, Sammy, what's this?" he asked, still hugging Sam to him. "You ain't scared are ya? Not of some measly old thunder, right??"
Keeping his tone light, Dean continued to soothe Sam as he quickly looked around the room. As always, Cas was gone. 'Night, Cas, Dean thought silently, turning back to Sam.
"Hey," Dean said, stopping Sam's babbling, "did you know that Jupiter has a thunderstorm that can swallow the Earth?"
Youâll Be In My Heart
*gestures wildly* I wrote a thing and @saltnhalo kicked my ass into finishing it.
It was a gloomy Tuesday when Castiel met Dean Winchester. The clouds were angry, and so was his mother. It seemed that the morning wasnât the best time to play hide and seek with her. She still kissed him goodbye though, still told him that she loved him.
âI lub you too,â Castiel had said, clutching his stuffed bumblebee as he watched his mother close the door softly behind her. She blew him a kiss through the window, and Castiel threw his hand up in the air to catch it. A joyous smile lit his face as he brought his chubby little fist to his chest, where his heart lay underneath.
âBye Mommy!â he said happily, slapping his hand to his mouth and energetically exclaiming âmwah!â as he flung his arm into the air, stumbling slightly to keep his balance. Hael Novak bore a look of concentration, tongue sticking out and wings fluttering as she caught the imaginary kiss in midair, cupping it gently and bringing it over her own heart. Castiel giggled at the funny look on his mommyâs face before he waved enthusiastically. Hael waved back, then walked out of view of the doorâs window.
âCome Castiel, letâs get you settled in,â said Miss Missouri, gently relieving Castiel of his bumblebee backpack, his wings flexing at the freedom. It wasnât long before Castiel was thoroughly entertained by the mega bloks, building little bees and little dinosaurs. He was so preoccupied that he almost missed the door opening and seeing the two unfamiliar people entering the room.
One was a grown up, his hair dark and his face unshaven, rumpled flannel and untied combat boots suggesting he rushed to get here. The other, though, was a young boy with sandy blond hair and big green eyes. He looked around the room nervously as he held his blue and white blanky close to his chest, his other hand clutching his fatherâs jeans.
Castielâs wings fluttered in curiosity, watching closely as Miss Missouri knelt down to talk to the boy, who didnât seem to talk back. The man said something to Miss Missouri, and her face changed from soft and kind to deeply sad. She spoke to the boy softly and gently rubbed her thumb across his small hand. The boy seemed to hesitate before nodding and trading his grasp from his fatherâs jeans to the soft hand of Miss Missouri. She smiled kindly to him as his father ruffled his hair, grunting a farewell before he made his way out of the room. The boy watched his father go, not a sound escaping him.
Miss Missouri guided him over to the tubs, where everyoneâs backpacks stayed until their parents picked them up. She gently took the backpack off the boy, Castiel taking notice that he had no wings. If he did have wings, Castiel thought, theyâd be very pretty. As Miss Missouri stowed away the boyâs bag, Castiel got to his feet, holding mega bloks in both hands as he ran over in excitement.
âIâmCastieldoyouwannaplay?â Castiel said, thrusting one of his hands out to offer the mega blok to the boy. He stared wide eyed at Castiel before dropping his gaze to the mega blok sitting on his palm.
âVery thoughtful, Castiel! Dean, would you like to play mega bloks with Castiel?â Miss Missouri asked, rubbing his back comfortingly. Dean looked to Miss Missouri before looking back down at Castielâs offering. He hesitantly reached out, picking up the mega blok and meeting Castielâs eyes. He nodded, a small hint of a smile tugging at his lips. Castiel beamed, grasping Deanâs wrist and guiding him over to the mega blok playstation.
For the rest of the day, the two boys were nearly inseparable. Dean didnât speak, but Castiel didnât mind. They were off in their own world, playing and giggling to their hearts content. Dean left before Castiel, and they waved enthusiastically at each other before the door separated them.
That night, Castiel talked all about his new friend to his family. Michael and Anna didnât have much interest, but his mother listened intently. Castielâs other mother, Naomi Novak, arrived home just in time for Castiel to tell her all about Dean before bed time. She listened with rapt attention as Castiel told her about the sandcastles heâd built with Dean, the best heâd ever made.
Wednesday came and went, the boys attached at the hip all day long. Castiel did most of the talking, but that was okay with him. They spent the afternoon communicating through pictures; drawing the things they liked and their favourite toys. They had a lot in common, and Castiel found he really enjoyed drawing with Dean.
Thursday morning arrived, and Castiel was thrilled to see Dean already in the room and playing with the mega bloks. âMommy!â Castiel gasped, âMommy! Mommy! Deanâs here! You hab to see Dean! Let me show you Dean!â He clutched his motherâs hand as he dragged her over.
âOkay! Okay!â Hael laughed, âcalm down, baby, no need to rush.â
Dean raised his head at the commotion and immediately smiled at the sight of Castiel. He quickly got up to meet Castiel half way, holding out his hand to give him a mega blok. Dean had saved it for him, his favourite mega blok.
âThanks!â Castiel said, relinquishing his motherâs hand in favour of taking the offering. âThis is my mommy,â he said, gesturing to the adult standing beside him. Dean smiled up at her, waving.
âHello, Dean. Itâs very nice to meet you,â she said, kneeling down in front of him. Dean smiled wider and waved again.
âHe doesnât like to talk, Mommy,â Castiel said, and she nodded in understanding.
âThatâs okay, there are lots of other ways to talk,â she said, âwe can figure that out later. Iâve got to go now, baby, so Iâll see you at the end of the day, okay?â
Castiel nodded, throwing his arms around his motherâs neck. âI lub you, Mommy.â
âI love you too, baby. Be good for Miss Missouri.â Hael gave Castiel a kiss on the cheek, which quickly turned into a raspberry. Castiel squealed, his laughter filling the entire room.
âYouâre silly, Mommy.â
âVery silly,â Hael giggled, âbye baby.â
âBye Mommy!â Castiel said, waving at her enthusiastically as she left the room, always closing the door softly behind her. Castiel turned back to Dean, only to find his smile replaced by sadness. Castiel frownedâhe was about to ask what was wrong but was interrupted by Miss Missouri.
âHow about we put your bag away, Castiel?â she said, guiding him towards the tubs. Castiel looked back at Dean, finding him looking at the floor, a frown on his face. Castiel grew concerned, upset that his friend was upset. After they stowed Castielâs bag away, he walked back over to Dean, wanting to cheer him up.
âAre you okay?â Castiel asked, trying to make eye contact with Dean.
Castiel managed to see only a glimpse of Deanâs angry face before he was being shoved, falling hard on his backside, the mega blok falling out of his hand and forgotten on the floor. Castiel looked up at Dean in shock, trying to grasp what had just happened as he stared at Dean. His vision began to blur, and before he knew it, he was crying. Regret began to seep into Deanâs expression when the first tear fell.
âCastiel! Are you okay?â asked Miss Missouri, rushing over to help Castiel to his feet. She rubbed his back as Castiel sniffled, nodding at the floor.
âDean, we need to have a talk, okay?â she said, taking Deanâs hand and gently walking him a couple metres away. Castiel stayed looking at the ground, wiping the tears from his face. He pondered Deanâs reasons for being so angry; was it something Castiel said? Did he not like his mother after all? And why was he sad?
It wasnât long before Miss Missouri was back with Dean, her hands on his shoulders and his expression holding deep regret and sadness.
âCastiel, Deanâs very sorry that he pushed you, and he wonât do it again.â She turned to Dean. âThatâs right, isnât it, Dean?â
Dean nodded quickly and surely, upset at his rash actions. Castiel looked up at Dean, already having forgiven him, simply worried for his friend. âThatâs okay,â Castiel said. Miss Missouri gave Dean a gentle pat on the shoulder before moving across the room.
Dean and Castiel stood awkwardly in front of each other. Their feet shuffled on the floor before Castiel heard Dean talk for the first time.
âMy mommyâs in Heaven,â he whispered. Castiel looked up in shock, eyes wide. He began to grow sad as he realised what that meant. Deanâs bottom lip wobbled as he spoke again. âI donât have a mommy anymore.â
Castiel didnât hesitate as he saw Deanâs tears begin to fall, walking forward to wrap his arms around Dean. Castielâs hug was returned by Dean as he began to sob, his head resting on Castielâs shoulder.
Cas was struck with a pang of sadness as he realised how much Dean must have missed his own mother after meeting Castielâs. He tried to think of a world without one of his moms, and quickly deemed it unfathomable. Castiel felt tears build in his own eyes, holding Dean close as his wings unfurled to wrap around the both of them, wanting to protect Dean in every way he knew how. Dean cried into Castielâs shoulder, his little arms clinging to Castiel, taking the comfort his friend was giving him.
Miss Missouri kept a close eye on the two boys over the day. Dean was emotionally charged, but Castiel was nothing short of perfect in looking after his friend. Dean began to grow sad again at nap time, but Castiel was there with open arms, open wings, and an open heart. Missouri couldnât miss the opportunity to take a quick photo of them as they slept; their arms loosely wrapped around each other, Dean hidden underneath Castielâs wings as they both snored lightly.
It began an unspoken tradition for both of them. From then on, their naps were spent next to each other, enclosed by Castielâs wings. From then on, Dean spoke to Cas every day. From then on, their bond was unbreakable.

Do I Worry chapter 38: Finding Heaven
The back door wasnât locked. I shrugged and tucked away the set of keys that Gabriel had had made for me. Not even an hour ago, I had thought that I would be sneaking off in the night with Sammy and leaving those keys for Gabe to find, along with a note explaining how relationships scared the shit outta me. The least I could do was tell him to his face.

Now up on Ao3!

Gabrielâs got enough to deal with, moving and raising his baby brother Cas. When Casâs âimaginaryâ little friend Sammy shows up on their doorstep, though, things get complicated fast.
Day 4 - Putting up Christmas decorations
Words: 880
Characters: Dean, Castiel, Sam, Charlie, Jody, Sonny
âDo you want to decorate our room?â Cas asked Dean randomly while they are doing their homework. Dean's doing his homework mostly with Cas nowadays. He was one of the smartest kids. Maybe even the smartest. And he was also very patient with explaining stuff when Dean asked. He looked up and stared at him. âWhat?â âDo you want to decorate our room? For Christmas?â âHmmmâŚâ Dean made looking at his maths problem biting from his cooky. The cookies turned out better than he had expected. They were just pretty heavily decorated which made him have icing all around his mouth. âSure. Why not?â he said, making Cas smile widely. âGreat! Let's go!â his roommate said and took Dean's hand. âYes, Dean! We'll have to ask Jody for the stuff first. We have to be fast or all the good stuff will be gone already!â he told him, pulling him behind him as he was running through the halls.

Day Four (A little late) : Little Kid!Cas and little Kid!Dean writing their letters to Santa
** pardon the bad art again, guys. I'm broke and doing these on index cards and cheap colored pencils đŹđŹ **
LETTER TO SANTA:
Castiel nearly slips on a patch of ice as he runs to the mailbox with his letter. Gabriel told him it's already too late, but that's not what his best friend Dean said last night when they worked on theirs together. Dean said you can write to Santa all the way up to Christmas because he has a super special kind of magic.
Just before reaching the end of his driveway, he sees Dean next door playing with his brother. He waves his letter in the air and yells. "DEAN! DEAN! LOOK! I finished!"
His very best friend in the whole wide world comes barreling forward, pulling out a crinkled and bent letter of his own from the pocket of his winter coat. "ME TOO!"
He takes the opportunity from the excitement to hug Cas tight. He's been doing that a lot lately. Yesterday, he even kissed Cas on the cheek while they walked home from school together. It made Cas nearly fall over as his face turned bright red and breathy giggles took over.
"Come on!" Dean squealed, tugging his hand. They stumble toward Cas' mailbox since it's closest and he stuffs his letter into it. Cas flips up the red flag because that's what his dad always does after putting mail in there. Then he squeezes Dean's hand, and they walk together to the other mailbox.
"What did you end up askin' for?" Dean asks as they slightly swing their joined hands between them. He knows his friend was having trouble deciding between two things. Both of their dads told them Santa doesn't have as many elves as usual this year, so they can't get a lot from him. Cas had a hard time narrowing it down.
He puffs his chubby cheeks and releases a sigh. "I went with the guniea pig. I'll ask for the robot at my birthday."
"Good choice!"
"What did you pick?"
After careful consideration over a slice of his mom's apple pie, Dean had figured his out. He was confident in his decision. "The guitar. That way I can play it for my dad."
"And me too?" Cas asks with hope.
Dean giggles and pulls his best friend in close as they get to his mailbox. "Of course! Hey, I have a good name for your guinea pig!"
"What?"
"Zeppelin! Oh, or Kansas! Or Floyd. Or-"
"No." Cas shakes his head at him. "You're weird."
"Well, what are you gonna name it then?"
Cas looks at him in confusion, like he should know this. "Bumblebee."
"But it's... it's a guinea pig, Cas."
Those blue eyes blink at him in a blank stare. "So?
Dean looks at his friend in wonder. Sometimes he forgets how perfectly pure his best friend is. "Never mind. I think the name is perfect."

âWhy are your clothes so torn?ââ¨
âTheyâre so big on you. Donât you have better clothes?â
âYouâre so ugly. Look how nice my clothes are!â
Three year old Dean Winchester sniffled, trying to hold back tears, as the other kids from his daycare taunted him. They were all laughing at his oversized flannel and his ripped shoes. Suddenly, a big kid pushed him so hard that he fell back and hit his head on the ground and thatâs when the tears started to flow and Dean started sobbing. The other kids just laughed until a voice cried out,
âHey get away from him!â
