It was over, I finally beat back that stupid priestess. She was gone forever, and out of my way for good. The smirk crossed my face, and the chuckle welled deep in my throat.

“Kikyou. How does it feel to finally be free?” The chuckle turned to a sob, and a tear slipped down my face.

Okay, you insane people that wanted your ears to bleed. It's terrible, I missed notes, and I hate myself for doing this. But whatever.

"M-Maple.." He whispered, looking up at the she-cat who stood before him with such an intense gaze that left him stunned. He had expected something like this from other people, like Eren and Mikasa, MAYBE even Jean, but he hadn’t expected it from Maplestar. However, he felt an overwhelming sense of pride for having such a person in his life and he smiled despite the tears that shimmered in his eyes.

The rain dripped down through the leaves, landing in messy splotches on the miko's Haori. The forest was alive with the organic sounds of nature. Creatures of all shapes and sizes sent out their sounds, creating a beautiful cacophony of noise. Kikyou always loved the rain for this reason. It was a soothing atmosphere, and for a moment, she allowed her usually tense body to relax. Her eyes drifted shut, and she looked up, enjoying the feeling of the cold droplets on her face.

Suddenly, a loud cry broke through the forest. Her eyes snapped open, and she began to move swiftly towards the source of the noise. The other cries of the animals about her vanished, and an overwhelming stench of decay and death reached the priestess's nostrils. 'A demon...' She thought, sensing the demonic aura that had appeared from no where. After a few moments, another yelp of terror sounded, just as the red-and-white miko burst through the trees.

She stood at the edge of a silent, misty field. The fog swirled around, blocking the rest of the clearing from view, but Kikyou knew that she wasn't alone. There was a low, rumbling growl, and suddenly a large red demon appeared. From below it, a tiny tabby cat ran out and hid behind the priestess.

"Help me!!" It shrieked at her. Before she had a chance to ask why the cat was speaking to her, the demon lunged a the two. The cat let out an unearthly shriek of terror, and ducked behind the miko once again. Her eyes grew cold, and with a fluid motion, the miko snatched an arrow out of her quiver, knocked it to the bow and released it from her bow.

It hit it directly in the chest, and the demon disintegrated instantaneously with only a loud roar of anger and pain left echoing about the silent forest. When it finally died away, the sounds of the creatures who inhabited it slowly reached grew in volume until it reached the level it'd been prior to the demon's appearance. Kikyou turned, and glanced down at the soaked brown tabby that had taken shelter behind her.

A small smile appeared on the women's face, and she bent down, lifting the cat into the air. "You never fail to get into trouble, Maplestar. Now, lets go find somewhere for you to dry off." The kitten, still with tears in her eyes, nodded a little, cuddled into the priestess and sniffled.

"I-I’m not sure." She wondered if it was something she’d inherited from her house-pet parents.
