The astral plane has been hinted at since KH3 and we haven't noticed.
So do you remember that one scene in ToyBox where YMX tells the toys and Sora that he made a copy of the real world? At first, Woody is confused but Sora easily explains it to him.
Now, where have we heard of something like this before?

Sora lives in the world of darkness and light meanwhile a nonexistence aka (Unreality) doesn’t have such a thing.
Mm, if I’m correct we heard of a world not having any mentions of light and darkness? Oh yeah, we have! VERUM REX!!
Now, in the summary of Verum Rex there is no mention of light or darkness only “KARMA”! So let's just assume that it doesn’t exist in that world but where does the story take place again?

I don’t think I’ll ever be okay with the ending of KH3, especially with the DLC context added. You mean to tell me that Sora…. our sweet baby boy Sora, literally condemned himself to a world without Kairi, without Riku, without any of his friends, just so Kairi could live???? And I’m just supposed to be okay with that????!!!???!!! And the last thing we see is him presumably telling Kairi that he’s going to go away, but everything is okay because everyone else is safe. They made sure everyone was okay. Before fading into the sunset. It’s the self-sacrifice chat….. it’s the seeing you’re fading away but not letting on to the one you love so as to worry them. it’s the going on cute dates just to have those precious few moments before you’re gone for good. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO BE OKAY WITH THAT?!?!?!?!?
I know the explanation we've been given for how Kairi's heart ended up shattered is that Xehanort did it, but idk, I just don't think that's what happened.
I feel like it would be more narratively compelling if what actually happened was that she shattered her own heart, and Xehanort just happened to find the pieces. the whole situation just seems off otherwise. like if the Kairi that got kidnapped and killed in the Graveyard Labyrinth was the real Kairi, doesn't that just mean she's completely helpless and none of her training actually meant anything? why would that be the case though? she's tough, we know she is. so why would she be so incapable of defending herself in those scenes?
my explanation is that this wasn't her. when everyone died to the Demon Tide in the Keyblade Graveyard, a rift in time was created, right? what if Kairi is the one that did it? what if the reason why Sora was able to travel backwards in time and bring everyone back was because Kairi sacrificed herself the same way Riku did? what if she ended up in the Final World before Sora, met Chirithy, and decided to save everyone right then and there? what if, in order to do that without the power of waking, she had to give up her own existence so Sora would have the power to fix everything?
and like, isn't that so much more interesting than the surface level story? I certainly think it is.
