The lower part of this image is a photo I took back in December 2020 when I was passing through Spokane on a work trip. Three of Conair's BAe-146 tankers were present for winter maintenance work. The upper two images are what I found on the Fire Aviation news site showing the internal structure of the Conair BAe-146 tanker conversion. Unlike Minden and Neptune who went with an internal installation, Conair adopted an external wrap around tank. British Aerospace has worked with all the fire operators doing these conversions and operations and with Conair, the external tank had little impact on flight handling. You can see on the first photo the structure of the front aerodynamic fairing. There is a similar but more tapered fairing aft. The main tank section is divided into four roughly equal sections- the retardant tanks are in the first, second, and fourth positions with the third position reserved to make room for the main landing gear. It's an elegant engineering solution that avoids structural cut outs in the pressure hull. From the photos it appears the retardant tanks are possibly made of carbon fiber. By having segmented tanks instead of one big tank, it minimizes tank sloshing which can upset the center of gravity when the aircraft is making sharp changes in flight attitude. www.lajeeteepress.com Yes, Conair is also in "Fighting to be Heard".
