   KASPER peeps a helpful warning into his HUD, text blinking past his eyes -- [ SIR LA-02, SUBJECT IS BECOMING DISTRESSED IN A KASMAR-LIKE WAY. ARE YOU SURE-- ]

   02 silences it.

   Carefully 02 takes several steps forward and grips his shotgun a little tighter. Deluded mania, aggression, irritability, physical degradation, all symptoms that make 02′s chest tighten and his future vision spark and shudder violently as he scans for ideas beyond the current and the now. He finds none other than within seconds, and those are wholly unhelpful. The Lancer inhales.

   “Of course I care.” He says, “That’s what the video was for. Last second. Contingency. Didn’t think I would need it.”

   Didn’t think you’d wreck the lab either, he thinks.

   “Didn’t think I wouldn’t get the chance to not talk and not show the video either. But life moves on.”

   Life moves on until it doesn’t. In 02′s offhand he stashes his omnitool and holds his shotgun with both hands, careful not to let it slip (and careful in case this brief moment of reason from his brother is a facade, if the power of the Knife is too great to be defied) while he scans their surroundings for anything else that might threaten them both. Not like it would survive for very long either way.

   There’s a pause before 02 speaks again.
