Round #1 β Match 21 of 104
Hawke
βLove my bisexual disaster man/ladyβ
βHawke is my favourite because DA2 lets them be personal. Youβre not saving the world, youβre trying to keep your family aliveβ
βthe game lets them be messy in a way that feels earned. theyβre not a chosen one with a prophecy, theyβre a refugee who keeps getting pulled deeper into kirkwallβs nonsense until theyβre basically holding the city together. and you can play them as kind or ruthless or funny or exhausted and it all fits, because the setting actually pushes back. also the friendships in da2 hit different, hawke feels woven into peopleβs lives, not just traveling with them.β
βHawke is my favorite protagonist because they feels so deeply embedded in the world around them. They have stakes, they have relationships, they have a strong sense of personality. These are things we lose out on when there is a self-insert protag. I love that despite enduring near constant grief and pain, they continue to do their best to protect the people around them and to make their home a safe place for their loved ones. Do they fuck up? Often. But they does the best they can with what they have, which is all any of us can try to do. I also love that they're such a massive himbo/herbo/themboβ
vs. Ketojan

Who should advance?
Hawke
Ketojan

The Shepherding Wolves quest in DA2 is so funny when you imagine Hawke and co. to have been on their way to a night out in the hanged man when they ran into petrice btw
Just reached Shepherding Wolves quest in my Dragon Age Replay, and am filled with so many feeling for Ketojan/Saarebas

I wish we could've kept you friend.
Sheparding Wolves is one of very few quests that benefit from having both Fenris and Anders in the party. Fenris offered good insight into the ways of someone who knows only servitude, and Anders was incensed about how Saarebas are treated and how deep the mind control went.
Brighid let him choose what to do, and watched him choose to die. It was possible it was the first choice he'd ever gotten to make, and you can't even feel good about it because it's just an ultimate end product to incredibly brutal brainwashing.
CONFESSION:
To this day, I see Ketojan as the biggest missed opportunity in the history of the series. What made the characters in DA2 so special is that each one represented a viewpoint, whether it's Aveline standing for order, Anders standing for mage freedom, etc. An entire act of the game is dedicated to the Qunari invasion of Kirkwall, but we never truly get an inside look at them or their culture. Ketojan would've provided that, with the unique spin of being a Saarebas. It's a shame he just dies off.
