Ketel species lore dump?

So Ketel’s species has, for most of history, lived on the periphery of humanity. They’re very good at not being found, and they’ve interacted with humans so rarely that a lot of people still think they’re a myth. The last few generations, though, have started a movement to reach out and try out a lil intercultural exchange. Ketel’s right on the forefront of that movement in his generation!
They’re typically a bit smaller than humans (Ketel’s like 5’ and hes pretty average sized) and they’ve got antennae which can sense movement from a pretty far range. Reproduction-wise… Their gestation is slightly shorter than humans’—a bit less than 7 months typically. and they usually have litters of around 2-4, though anywhere up to 7 wouldn’t be unheard of. They’re also just better at childbirth than humans—it’s still not easy, but it doesn’t fuck em up nearly as much, so they can get the next litter cookin’ like a few weeks after delivery if they need to, though most of them would take at least a month or two off.
Since they’ve just got one person per group (clan I guess would be more accurate) makin’ babies, that one person gets Very Good at it. At a certain point in development, there’s a sort of pheromones reaction dealie in the group of maturing… species members… which causes one AFAB member to develop much more, uh, fertile characteristics. Because this just sorta Happens, they have a lot of cultural importance ascribed to the one “carrier”—they become a sort of leader, like a spiritual matriarch. Ketel is going against a loooot of tradition by leaving his home to go off to school and he gets a lot of both respect and heat for that!

what is Ketel’s school life like! Does he stay in a dorm? Is he friends with any of your other ocs? Does he get to keep all of the babies? I hope you’re having a good night!
hmMm he definitely lives on campus! Probably gets his own apartment eventually though. But I do like the idea of him having some hapless roommate who’s greeted on move in day with a super energetic pink bearded guy with a comically huge baby bump…
he is friends with Benny! They bond over both being serially pregnant and non-human. And having weird feet. It’s hard having chicken legs in this human footed world…
and since he’s carrying all the babies of his clan, they’re kind of his and kind of not. Kids are raised communally, and the carrier usually isn’t one of the people dedicated to childcare. He’d like to be more involved some day but currently since he’s at college that’s not really an option! So for now every time he’s due, he travels on home, delivers the babies, recovers there until he can be fertilized again, then leaves em there and comes back to school. Which is kind of inconvenient but hes dedicated!!
