๐A Bone In His Teeth๐
My newest project is completed! A Bone In His Teeth is a fantasy/monster romance featuring a disabled, lighthouse keeper trans man and a bloodthirsty merrow/merman. It's incredibly atmospheric in its seaside horrors, so I knew that I had to create my own version of a handmade, leather bound lighthouse keepers logbook to go with the vibe!
I intentionally wanted it to look handmade, aged, and roughed up and I think I succeeded on that front. This was a lot of firsts for me! First time using leather to bind, first time tooling leather and using a woodburning engraving pen on it (getting to feel the ridges in the leather around the lighthouse and words is so satisfying!) There's so much that I've learned in this process and I'm super excited to continue binding with leather!
I used acrylic paints to age and weather the leather and even sprinkled saltwater on it for that "briney" look. And the pages are speckled in black paint to represent black "Merrow Blood" which, in the book, stains everything it touches and flows pretty freely being the horror-romance that it is!
Definitely a totally different vibe than I've ever done before and I'm so pleased with it!
