Not really. They were good people before the trauma they went through, which made them extremely obsessed with their s/o's and brought out the worst in each of them.

Leroy was a man who simply wanted to live an ordinary life with his lover and he wants that back, but right now it's impossible with you being turned into a brainless monster. He'll force a normal daily routine in somewhat insane ways just because he wants that same old feeling of comfort he used to have.

Religious parallels are something I've always had a weak spot for. I like to hide these details that probably nobody cares about or will notice regarding names, numbers, events because it ends up giving away a bit of the lore if you understand even just a little bit about bible stories.
