I just saw a cute birb and now I kinda wanna drop everything and become a birdwatcher lol
New special interest unlocked (well it was always there but it just intensified lol)
I tried to get a pic but only got bad ones, but I think it was a finch. I just Googled NZ finches and it's maybe a greenfinch
We are sooo lucky to have such beautiful birds right in our literal backyard
I also saw/heard a Tui the other day and became entranced for a little while.
But when I tell people I watched a bird i am usually met with disparaging comments like "lucky for some I wish I could just watch birds all day". I'm sick and tired of it just let people enjoy life wth the little dopamine they get!?
Like non-disabled ppl are literally miserable working a dayjob to survive (which, like I get it but your people aren't ur enemy capitalism is) so they don't want anyone else to be happy and then they act surprised when I end up focusing on "the negatives" in life a lot - bc I have been taught it is actually apparently unacceptable for me to express joy/euphoria over simple things -- i literally can't win so I'll just do what i damn well please and shut up about it (except on here)
Sorry this wasn't meant to become a rant but it did lol. Has anyone else disabled/neurodivergent noticed that phenomenon where you're damned if you don't, damned if ya do/can't win? Not allowed to enjoy/express joy for life at all just bc other people suffer?
And back to original point: birdwatchers what are some good field guide book recommendations for NZ birbs?
