Joe (I think that was his name, correct me if I’m wrong) could often be found on this bench, just sitting, saying hello to people. He didn’t seem to work, his father left him a six family house. His life seemed very simple. Never saw him with anyone except neighbors and friends from the park. Back in the 1980’s when we lived in Kearny, there was a woman who worked in the donut shop where Mary would stop most mornings. She struck up a friendship with the woman behind the counter. The woman had a son, but no dad was in the picture. We used to see the mom and son together all the time. This time in I asked to photograph them together, but she insisted I only photograph her son. She worked hard and doted on the young man.
