The last of my wanderings around West Hudson Park. His grandfather was previously pictured and gave permission. He reminds me of myself at that age. Carrying a big camera on a tripod was an instant conversation starter. I miss using it, but now I don’t need to use it as a crutch to overcome my fear and shyness. This is my grandmother, taken in the early 1980’s. As usual she sits in her rocking chair in front of the window. This is one of those images that for me shows the limitations of a portrait, and how it can only show what a person looks like, and nothing more. The rest is up to the imagination of the viewer. Hopefully it’s a good enough photo to engage your imagination and prints you to try to see something more. I’d be curious to know what your impressions are. Joe (I think that was his name, correct me if I’m wrong) could often be found on this bench, just sitting, saying hello to people. He didn’t seem to work, his father left him a six family house. His life seemed very simple. Never saw him with anyone except neighbors and friends from the park.
