Janosh Uher turns up to the Devil’s Den expecting instructions on his next job. He never asked to become a translator or a baby sitter for the drunk stranger he finds getting head locked by none other than the Dry Devil himself. On the other hand, Adder never expected the big man to speak his language. He’s grateful though he won’t say it. What’s even better is how this man jokes back with him and them lifts him clean off his bed too! It excites Adder enough for him to offer Janosh his real name as a secret.

I really think Janosh is the group mom. Maybe he isn’t the most responsible, but I love that his biggest concern is making sure that everyone is fed and fed WELL. Even during the swigs he was put on ration duty, and I bet it broke his heart to see his people starving. But overall, I think it’s really cool to see how much food and cooking are important to him. Definitely will poke folks in the ribs and complain he isn’t eating enough, and even MORE so after Suchdol. I think caring for others through food is his way of processing Adder as well
This is so fucking cute, oh my god I love Janosh so much 😭 I know he caught so much shit for this. Adder pulling caterpillars off of Janosh (and then throwing them back at him).

“I know how close you were,” Katherine says. There’s some hesitation in her voice, a softness, an invitation. “He was my best friend,” Janosh says. “I—” But his throat closes around the words. Katherine waits a moment for him to finish. “You loved each other,” she says when he cannot.

It’s been a while since a character death has struck me quite like Adder’s, and I tend to process things by writing them 😔 I can’t say this was fun to write but it did pull me out of a pretty bad writing slump, so there’s that.
