A thing I try to explain in my discussions on the electronic melanges might be their lack of a definition. For instance, lo-fi hip hop remains a tough genre to handle in that regard. You cannot really consider that to be a part of a hip hop structure, but can you call that electronica either? Sure, most of the musicians there appear to sound more organic than, say, those who make vaporwave, yet they keep themselves at a distance with a variety of effects. True, I could be cheeky and decode lo-fi hip hop a postmodern musical idiom, but the timelines do not match up that well in here. Moreover, the style does serve the same function as ambient supposed to in the past, yet what does that tell about our society now?
