SIGNAL BOOST: kateofthecanalās editing is FIRE (A Review)
Hello, hi. You all might remember this post from @kateofthecanalsā offering her editing/proofreading services. I took her up on her services to edit my manuscript (100k words, fiction).
Let me first say this, we are blessed to have such a talented lady in our midst and her editing was simply fantastic. Here is my review. My fellow writers, if you have anything in need of editing, I cannot recommend @kateofthecanalsā enough!
Kate did such a thorough and phenomenal job editing my manuscript. She not only has a superb eye for punctuation, diction, and the mechanics of writing, but her insights and suggestions were a showstopper for me. I am left now absolutely spoiled with new ideas, fresh perspective, and reinvigorated with inspiration all thanks to Kate!
Kateās eye for detail was simply superb. She pointed out consistency issues, drawing on previous plot points, writing conventions, or elements of characterization, to really hone in on places where things can be tightened to pull it all together and polish the manuscript.
Kateās comments helped me work through pacing and plotting in a way I absolutely would not have been able to do alone. Thatās not a hyperbolic statement. When you write something and pour your heart into it, you are way too close to see the things you need to see. Having an editor is a way to take a step back, gain a different perspective, and see the topography of your work as a whole and not just the words you so lovingly carved onto the page.
Kate did just that with a poignant sense of narrative and straightforward but incredibly thoughtful input and ideas that will absolutely elevate my work (and yours too!). I was so impressed with her ability to quickly get a deep sense of my work, see the daylight between where my story is and where I want it to be, and, with the precision of a narrative surgeon, identify places to further shape the material, trim away excess, or layer in complexity.
Itās like when youāre cooking and you sample your creation and think, āIt just needsā¦something. Canāt put my finger on it, but itās something. Garlic. Salt. I donāt know, but something is missing.ā Kate is the equivalent of coming along and saying āYeah, that could probably use some nutmeg to pull it all together.ā So you add the nutmeg and PRESTO! Thatās it. Thatās precisely what it needed and suddenly it all falls into place.
Writing is a lonely craft, but is made better and stronger with the help of others who can see things in a different way.Ā Kate not only does that, but sheās a consummate professional, works within agreed upon timelines, and delivers in spades!
Thank you so much @kateofthecanalsā! Hereās to you!Ā
