Initially, Cass tells Flash about the possibility of becoming Carnage after hearing about it in Nueva York. She’s freaking out about it, obviously, because she thinks it’s her destiny or whatever, and Flash is like ‘dude, it’s not like Venom even likes you anymore, i don’t think you have to worry about any weird byproducts merging with you or whatever but if something happens I’ll let you know’

She similarly has a conversation with Logan about Carnage and he’s like ‘don’t let other people’s perception of what you MIGHT be change who you are’ or whatever and Cass is like yeah sure totally easy for you to say, to which Logan’s like ‘it’s actually not easy for me to say it, it took forever for me to figure this shit out I’m trying to spare you the same issue’

Part of Venom *does* flake off and seem to have its own shit going on, and it freaks Flash out so they contact Cass about it. Cass obviously doesn’t take this well either and the two have it trapped in a mason jar and are talking about it, when it begins to communicate telepathically with Cass, hooking onto her anxieties and secret desire to be bonded with a symbiote again.

So obviously Cass lets it out

The two bond for a bit and the same thing that happened when Cass was Venom happens again, until eventually Flash/Venom and Logan are able to get her to calm down and promise to get rid of the symbiote

She does not do that

She tells them she’s gotten rid of Karnage but in fact has not, and at a later date she’s out in public and save someone in her civilian clothes, revealing herself as a mutant. The person she saved, as well as bystanders, start attacking her out of fear of her mutant status, and eventually in anger Cass becomes Karnage again and almost kills a bunch of those survivors

This post-attack Karnage is the one that the Brotherhood contacts to be a part of their group. Karnage, who already is a weird alien symbiote with its own perception of the world warped by Cass, kind of turns into a Justice/Anders situation where they’re mostly angry about injustice. This version of Karnage never fully leaves Cass and even when Cass becomes X-Spider again and leaves the brotherhood, Karnage is still present, though usually dormant.

Kurt is probably the one to get Karnage to finally leave Cass alone, tbh. Combo of Kurt and Logan’s constant pressure on her to like, not kill people as much.

but also like imagine Karnage in the brotherhood working alongside Sabertooth… awful. Dark timeline. Very fun anti-Wolverine presence in her life
