A table that shows traditional* division and categorizing of Karelian language.

In the table, Karelian language is divided into three main dialects: Karelian Proper, Liygi and Ludic.

Ludic is further divided into local dialects of Northern Ludic in Kondupohja, Central Ludic in Munjärvi, Southern Ludic in Pyhäjärvi and Kuujärvi dialect.

Liygi is further divided in local dialects of Imbilahti, Kondu, Kotkatjärvi, Nekkul, Riipuškal, Siämäjärvi, Tulemjärvi, Videl and Vieljärvi.

Karelian proper is further divided in subdialects of Viena dialects and Suvi dialects.

Viena dialect is divided into northern dialects and transitional dialects.

Northern dialects include local dialects of Kiestinki, Kieretti, Kontokki, Oulanka, Pistojärvi, Suomussalmi, Uhtua, Viččataipale and Vuokkiniemi.

Transitional dialects include local dialects of Jyskyjärvi, Puanajärvi and Užmana.

Suvi dialects are divided into Central Karelian dialects, Border-Karelian dialects and Enclave dialects.

Central Karelian dialects include local dialects of Mändyselgä, Porajärvi, Puatene, Repol'a, Rukajärvi, Šuikujärvi, Tunkuo and Voijärvi.

Border-Karelian dialects include local dialects of Ilomančči, Korbiselgä, Suistamo and Suojärvi.

Enclave dialects include local dialects of D'orža, Tihvin, Tolmačču, Valdai and Vesjegonsk.

Čiilahaiskala - fish salted with nettles

Hiilikköine, rehennysrieska - rye dough that's patted thin, and immediately baked in oven without raising. Typically eaten warm right from oven with baked fish and / or potatoes as breakfast or snack

Juuppo - soup made from berries, sugar and thickened with rye- or potato flour

Keitinleibä - small bread buns, first boiled in salt water and then baked in oven

Kevättikala - lightly salted and fermented fish, typically eaten in spring

Kolačču - a bagel style bread made from soured rye dough, first boiled in salt water, then baked in oven

Liharokka - stew or thick soup made from dried meat, potato or white turnip and rye or oat flour

Limoniččä, limoniekka - a bit more modern, this is a Karelian lemon tart made from whole lemon filling and crust of wheat flour and sour cream.

Mähnäjuušto - mixed milk and lightly salted fish eggs are whisked together and baked in the oven

Potakkašanki - a round of soured dough that's patted flat, and mashed or sliced cooked potato on top before baking.

Räpsy - a pie made from unsoured rye dough, filled with oat flour porridge, only one edge is folded up

Koivugo roih libo kuuzi? (Is it birch or a spruce?) is a zine about sexuality and gender through the lenses of Karelian culture, made by collective of activists and artists under the name Kylykoda ("bathing house", "entrance to sauna").

This is their first zine, currently published as online English version, and they have plans for release of physical copies at least in Karelian language in near future.
