Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been pulling guns on off-duty officers of color while illegally demanding their citizenship papers.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Bruley said he opposed abolishing ICE but disagreed with how federal officers were carrying out immigration enforcement.
"Recently, as the last two weeks, we as law enforcement community have been receiving endless complaints about civil rights violations in our streets from US citizens," he said. "What we're hearing is they're being stopped in traffic stops or on the street with no cause and being forced to show paperwork to determine if they are here legally."

Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley says multiple Twin Cities officers of color have been stopped while off duty by ICE agents who demanded “paperwork” to prove legal status — and he says residents have reported similar stops.
In this clip, Bruley describes one incident he says involved ICE agents boxing in an off-duty officer, drawing guns, and knocking her phone out of her hand when she tried to record. He says the agents left after she identified herself as a Brooklyn Park police officer.
Bruley stresses he is not calling to abolish ICE and says immigration enforcement can be necessary — but argues how it’s done matters, and he’s calling for more supervision over the “surge” and for alleged civil rights violations to stop.
