I finally decided to try temperature control mode yesterday. I used dual stainless steel Coilology framed staple coils in my Geekvape Blitzen. The resistance came out to .11 ohms and I got suggestions for what TCR setting to use (92) and what wattage ramp up (75w) and boy is it everything they said and more. It's such a smooth vape, no dry hits, not turbulent smoldering coil, nada. But... I'm feeling a slight restriction in my chest and coughing since yesterday. I don't know if maybe I'm allergic to stainless steel or what or if I had a reaction to something else so I'm keeping an eye on it going forward.
It would be a shame if that were the case cuz nickel and titanium wire is much harder to find. Even though TC can be used on all 3 wires in my mod I almost never see those two materials on sale anywhere. But I might try to hunt them down if stainless steel doesn’t work out.
Since I started vaping on RTAs and RDAs I’ve been using nichrome and I absolutely love it. One of the first things I learned about wires was that everyone had a preference and that n80 was the one with the metal taste. Turned out not to be the case, at least for me. I taste nothing but the flavor of my eliquid when vaping with n80 but I could taste the metal as soon as I put in these stainless steel coils.
Anyway, I’m gonna keep assessing and removing variables. I don’t think it’s the Blitzen because I cleaned and dried it before using it down to the deck components. I could have just run into some dust or something and while I do feel restriction with slight coughing now and then I’m not having a full asthma attack.
In any case, worse comes to worse, I simply go back to vaping exclusively on nichrome and eventually give kanthal a try. One of the greatest benefits I’ve had from vaping these last four months is that my coughing has virtually disappeared. I just don’t cough any more. I’m not out of breath any more. All of it ceased a week after I put the cigs down and started vaping.
But anyway, this is my experience with temp control 2 days in. I’ll add more as I go forward.
