Irving Rosenthal (early publisher of Naked Lunch with Big Table/Chicago review, author of Sheeper,  and later founder of Kaliflower commune)   with Allen, Allen’s kitchen, September 17,  1989.   snapped by Sam, Irvings right hand man, with Allen’s camera. Diggers.org have just posted a long lost, wild & fascinating interview between Allen and Irving from 1971 “Interrogation of a Businessman by the Interior Police.” There’d always been tension in their friendship part stemming from Irving’s rejection of Allen’s poetry careerism,  but also a recognition on Irving’s part of of Allen’s frustratingly skin deep attraction to other men,  and that, as much as he believed Allen loved him, Allen couldn’t not get past his appearance.  Amidst Irving’s entreating Allen to give it all up and join an anonymous Commune, there’s lots of gossip (not to mention Allen casually mentioning he’d slept with Genet, a fact hitherto unknown).
