THE WAR OF KRAYY
500 years ago (499 YK-510YK) there was a huge continent-spanning war concerning an invading thought/dream/entity/something allegedly called Krayy.
The “folk hero” leader of the anti-Krayy forces was a tiefling whose original name has been lost to history, but who changed his name to Burnt. He said he intended to shine the light on the shadows of the minds of those afflicted with Krayy.
During this war, the Kalashtar were a large part of the people who were seen to be afflicted. They had long been known to have an entity bonded to them, and that was misinterpreted by the Anti-Krayys to be proof of mental infection/intrusion.
To this day, there is no proof or general consensus as to who was right in this war, indeed even if Krayy existed at all. The conflict only ended because Burnt managed to get into the king of Aundair’s castle and murder him, thinking him to be the root cause of the evil. The gnomes of Korranberg, who had been the largest proponents for common sense and calm, spearheaded the effort to take Burnt and his spear out of the equation. They stationed themselves in the castle, and took him out successfully. Unfortunately, not until after the King was dead, speared right through the head.
After the assassination, with no folk hero telling them to look for new targets, and with many saying that the King had indeed been the root cause and thus now no longer a threat, the now-less-driven Anti-Krayy factions calmed and/or allowed themselves to be tried and/or were wiped out by the still-very-much-driven forces allied against the ones responsible for the death of a King.
The gnomes confiscated Burnt’s spear (popularly known as Burnt itself), saying that the weapon was cursed, and took it back to the Library of Korranberg, where it sits in a display case under heavy magical protection to this day.
