Oh look! Toriyama explained why Raditz remembered Goku as a baby! Pretty neat, eh?

But the haters of "modern Toriyama" ignore this and many other things Toriyama put in DB-Minus because they are nostalgia blind & don't want to notice narrative mistakes in the Bardock Special.

FATHER OF GOKU: Raditz was off world in the Bardock Special, so he would have no idea what his brother's name is or what he looked like because baby Kakarrot was sent away 1 day after his birth to infiltrate Earth; a planet Freeza had zero interest in. Raditz would have to be told by a Freeza soldier about Goku's Saiyan name and what planet he was sent to. NARRATIVE MISTAKES.

TORIYAMA'S IDEAS: Raditz was able to see his brother & know his name, unlike in the Bardock Special. Baby Kakarrot was sent to Earth to survive; a planet Freeza had zero interest in. Then, Bardock and Gine had to send a coded message to Raditz in order for Freeza (who's men listen to scouter conversations) not to know the truth.

Many fans scream about how DB-Minus ruined continuity of Dragon Ball & how it erased the Bardock Special. In truth, Minus did the opposite. But many fans didn't realize it.

Toriyama actually put a lot of thought into DB-Minus (& the Jaco The Galactic Patrolman manga by extension). Not as a stand alone comic, but as a story that fills in the blanks of Dragon Ball.

Here comes the splainin'...

RAMBUNCTIOUS GOKU

Young Goku was a wild and dangerous little boy. Grampa Gohan had to fight with him and tried to teach him manners, but he couldn't be tamed. Then, one day Goku fell & hit his head. From there, Goku's personality changed and he became very kind.

In the Dragon Ball manga, Roshi explains that Gohan told him about how Goku was a wild baby. Then, Toriyama shows Grampa Gohan with a wild young Goku after their battle in the Jaco The Galactic Patrolman manga.

"BABY" GOKU

Next is Raditz's memory of Goku as a baby. DB Minus stays consistent with continuity & has "baby" Kakarrot in an incubator. Toriyama made sure that young Kakarrot in DB-Minus is in the same position that Raditz remembered.

(Goku only looks skinnier because Toriyama's drawing style changed).

GOKU'S AGE

Then we have Goku's age. Originally Toriyama said Goku was 14, then he later changed it to 12. This made Goku 3 years younger than he was originally stated to be.

Toriyama cleverly references the original age that he intended for Goku to be by having Gine mention that Kakarrot has been in the incubator for 3 yrs. This is during AGE 734. Then, after toddler Kakarrot was sent away from Planet Vegeta, he then lands on Earth in AGE 737.

Grampa Gohan does not know how old Goku is. But, since Son Gohan was unsure when this child was truly born, Gohan decided to start Goku's age from this moment that he encountered Goku during AGE 737.

From there, Goku grew up with the age that Grampa Gohan gave him. Then, Goku messed up on his math & thought he was 14 (which is actually his true age).

Then, 1 year later, he realized he would be 12 after he was taught to do math correctly by Roshi (this is going by the age he was told he is on Earth).

Toriyama made it so that both ages for Goku work.

Now we get to have it both ways. Just pick between Goku's Earth age or his true age & you can always be right (from a certain perspective).

It can still be a bit confusing, but I don't mind it.

BIRTH YEARS

Goku - AGE 734 (he was given the birth year of AGE 737 by Grampa Gohan since that was when Son Gohan first met him.)

Bulma - AGE 733 (she is about 1.5 years older than Goku, which makes it seem like she is 2 yrs older than him during certain times of the year. This explains why Bulma is 5 & Goku is 3 in DB Minus. But, Goku's real age is unknown to Bulma & she believes that she is about 4 years older than Goku.)

Vegeta - AGE 732? (because it seems to be that Saiyans are left in incubators for 1 to 3 years, Vegeta may have actually been born in AGE 731, AGE 730, or even AGE 729. Broly was sent away to Vampa and appeared to be the age of an older toddler. If Broly was just born, he would be crawling instead of walking. Vegeta & Broly were born around the same time, meaning that Vegeta was not a newborn.)

Krillin - AGE 736 (at first, Krillin believed that Goku was almost 2 years older than him. Now, Krillin believes Goku is about 1 year younger than him. In reality, Goku is actually almost 2 years older than Krillin.)

Just thought I'd clarify some stuff about Dragon Ball Minus. Or at least clarify to the best of my ability.

Side-note... Ppl think DB Minus erased the Bardock Special completely. Untrue. Events of the Bardock Special still happened in DB Minus as we were shown in the "Dragon Ball Super: Broly" movie. Things just happened a bit differently & were done off-screen.

As requested by @salsifaofplanetroot: A one-shot of Kakarrot and Raditz “get along”. I think Raditz is pretty OC but Kakarrot is kinda... off. But I like him that way.

"I can't believe I ended up in this stupid hell!"

Goku defensively raised his arms. "I'm sorry, but you left us no other choice"

“You left me no other choice! You and this huge green guy! ”, Raditz took a step towards his younger brother, raised his fist menacingly.

"I'll kill you for this, Kakarrot!"

"Um, I'm already dead too. That won't do-", Goku was interrupted by his brother's fist in his stomach. “I don't give a shit! Then I'll beat you until I don't feel like it anymore! ”He hit his brother furiously, but Goku managed to catch his fists.

It was only a few seconds since Goku fell from the Snakeway to Hell. As luck would have it, he landed directly on his older brother, who had already spent a few days in earthly hell.

Despite the dead body, Raditz still had amazing stamina.

Goku had to endure his brother's beating for several hours. Raditz had already forced Goku onto his back, he himself had just put the last kicks on the chest of the person opposite. Gasping for breath, the long-haired one propped himself up on his knees, looking grimly into Goku's eyes.

The younger Saiyan was also at the end of his power and had not resisted for a long time. In the end, he only endured the beating.

"I'm not finished yet", Raditz grumbled and sat down on the floor next to his brother, out of breath, and sat cross-legged.

"Yes ... I thought so", Goku groaned and took a deep breath. "But I don't have time for it ..."

“I don't give a shit about that either, Kakarrot!”

"Just stop acting like a Saiyan", Goku muttered to himself and turned his gaze back to his brother.

"I swear, if you hadn't brought that Namekian with you, I would have killed you", he growled.

"I know that", Goku snorted. “But why did you have to kill me so badly? Couldn't you just fly away?"

Raditz snorted contemptuously. “Tzz, you think I would have just let you get away with that? You are one of our kind, Kakarrot! There are only a handful of us left, and should I just let you live a wrong life here?”, the older man stood indignantly, ready to demonstrate his strength again.

Goku got up too.

“I have family and friends on earth. I don't know any other life. And I would do anything to protect them”, this time Goku attacked first.

Raditz was amazed at the sudden strength, but immediately understood what Goku's secret was. In the last few minutes that Raditz attacked his brother, who only tolerated the attacks, he was collecting his own reserves.

Raditz was only able to repel a few attacks. He just didn't have the stamina at the moment.

“Even if  I have to kill my own brother and myself too ”

The older Saiyan thought about it. 

He never had anything to fight for. 

Of course he had his honor, his pride ... The very fact that he was a Saiyan made him fight. However, this subsided when his home planet was destroyed and he was sent to Earth by Nappa and Vegeta. He knew the two wanted to get rid of him ...

But he didn't have motives like Kakarrot. 

Something was always missing in his whole life. Maybe it was that? Family? Friends?

The realization only made him angrier. His younger brother had completely robbed him of the chance. He couldn't even try it.

"And thanks to you I will never find out what it is like!", he finally burst out and with all his might he hit Goku in the face.

He sailed a few meters through the air before landing hard on his butt.

Raditz was about to pounce on the younger one when Goku interrupted him.

"And what if you could still try it?"

Raditz paused. "What do you mean by that?"

Goku thought about it.

“I'll explain everything to you. There is a way to bring your planet and the people on it back to life. Including you, of course”

Raditz didn't believe what he was hearing.

"However, you have to help me with something before we can make that possible for you"

Goku once again enlightened his older brother about the Dragon Balls, and that with them it was possible to wish his planet and its people back.

"And now you think I believe you would do this for me so easily?", he looked at his brother suspiciously.

"If you make a deal with me beforehand"

Raditz growled. Of course there was a condition attached. His brother didn't seem that stupid.

"What do you want?"

“That we get along. And-"

“What else?! That's enough and requires everything from me”, Raditz growled and stared grimly at his brother. 

“You will train with me with King Kai and then help us fight the other two Saiyans. Otherwise the Dragonballs will be destroyed by the two of them and we can't do anything for you” Raditz looked grimly at his brother again. 

"So you actually bribe me", then he grinned. "That makes me a little proud of you, Kakarrot" 

"Does that mean we have a deal?", Goku held out his hand. 

Raditz didn't think twice about it and accepted by shaking Gokus hand.
