I HC that Kaiba feels very lonely sometimes and will walk around aimlessly to get stuff off his mind! During this time is when he goes to the arcades (in the manga he set the highest arcade scores on every game) or just sits and observes things to have fun!

While the malls wouldn’t actually be abandoned, they would probably be comparably empty late at night. He would walk around at night mostly because that’s when he has free time. Especially considering he was expected to be a Grade A Student, and I’m guessing Gozaburo would be very aggressive and controlling when it comes to knowing where he is? (If that’s the case, then Seto would just repeat the process as a habit, even after Gozaburo’s death.)

But yeah! I think it captures the right feeling considering it’s a place where so many people are *supposed to be* by societal expectation. A lot of the time, without his brother around, he would feel lonely, wouldn’t you say? Even if he was surrounded by people, I think he would be too preoccupied with himself and his own thoughts.
