[Kise x f!Reader]
soulmate!au, enemies to lovers!au, manga!kise, cursing!kise to bits, LONG SERIES FIC
Hana is the name I decided to give to the brunette who flirted with Haizaki in s3
Synopsis: Kise despises people like you more than anyone else, the type of people who are shallow, coquettish, and so high-strung on acquiring a soulmate more than anyone else. Nothing good ever comes out of someone who hangs out with the brunette girl along with Haizaki.
You despise two-faced people like him... that's what you like to tell yourself. After all, you're only honest about what you want with people, and if it can help you get a soulmate faster... Where's the crime in that? High-and-mighty people like Kise who didn't believe in soulmates were pretentious, and he was no exception. And you'll do whatever it takes to get what you want, even if it means throwing away your heart in the process, because happiness will come to you once you're with your soulmate... you just know it.

A/N: This post includes both chapters 1 and 2! Well, it's here... I have the entire brainstorm of where I need this plot to go, but writing it out in fic form as opposed to long headcanons? ... Not my strongest suit but here I go? Please support this series through reblogs/likes and comments! I'd love to interact with everyone!
You will meet your soulmate in a place where there are many other people. You will have your first real encounter with them in a place where you always spend your time through the years. Be careful to keep track of where you are at all times. Your soulmate is always with company, and they are never lonely. You must be careful to not actively seek out for your fated encounter, for youâll certainly miss them. You must remain committed and seek out things that keep you steady and motivated. Only then is it possible for your soulmate to come to you instead.
Kise would like to think heâs a romantic at heartâcheesy guy even, but on the other hand, he actively scoffs at the letterâs content⊠that heâs had memorized for years now. He has no choice on the matter of whether or not heâll remember it. Not when his âletterâ was just a measly paragraph. He remembered being awfully jealous and whiny of his past classmates bringing their 2-page letter to class to show off and getting the âoohâsâ and âahâsâ from everyone else. That was one sure-fire way to distinguish yourself from the crowd and make a name for yourself. Over the years, Kiseâs learned that it would become a separate type of âpopularity hierarchy,â whereas those with the most elaborate, mysterious, or unique soulmate letters are the ones at the top of the social ladder. Bonus points if it somehow involves all three factors.
And somehow, he also ended up at the popular side of that hierarchy too. Not like he cared, but itâs wildly convenient sometimes to get what you want from people. Still, no benefits from being popular this way could ever outweigh the massive inconveniences; he made the grievous mistake of revealing his letter contents to a casual friend in âgood-natured fun.â And before he knew it, the entire school ended up knowing about it too⊠and then the entire neighborhood⊠and somehow, it went even into the ears beyond that.
Thus, it started his chronic illness of being tailed after by girls of all backgrounds. With no cure in sight for the ailment that he certainly didnât ask for. Itâs almost terrifying how a single day transformed every single girl into a parasitic bee on a search for the brightest, most colorful flower. Kise, already popular for his looks to begin with, suddenly was shoved under a more blinding spotlight of public scrutiny. If he was going to be completely honest⊠he liked it⊠at first. The newfound attention was euphoric and foreign, and he relished in it. But just like anything else, it got⊠boring.
Some might call it the ultimate blessing: it could make searching for a soulmate much easier and less effort on his end, theyâd argue. Kise had come to beg to differ. Not when hundreds of the same faces with hundreds of clamors claimed and cried that they were his soulmate. How do fourteen girls suddenly have the âother half of the puzzleâ to his own letter when there were⊠thirteen other girls claiming the same thing?
See, one soulmate gets a letter describing a general location of where theyâd meet their soulmate. The other soulmate gets a letter describing a general timeframe of when theyâd meet. Not like it actually helps narrowing down the process of pairing up people. Because he knows this shit can take yearsâdecades, in factâbefore he can even get a first glimpse of his soulmate. And the ordeal of people constantly screaming in his face that the time theyâd meet their soulmate is now and hence, âit must be Kiseâ got old really quickly.
Itâs utterly stupid. Who does this sender think they are to decide how Kise gets to live his life? What type of sadistic game were they playing by forcing the other soulmate to have the other half of the information, which would be, no doubt, just as annoyingly cryptic?
He stopped denying all the rumors of a girl claiming to be his soulmate; for every rumor he clarified and quashed during his naive youth, three more sprung up the next week. Ignoring them sounds counterintuitive, but when he allows the many rumors and girls to multiply and fester, the number of annoyances are still relatively the same: nearly infinite.
Such has become the life of Kise RyĆta.
Worst part of this whole damn thing was, he wonât be able to know when heâd meet his soulmate, not until he shares a âkiss of genuine integrityâ with them⊠and he doesnât even know where to begin with that requirement. Supposedly, after you kiss the right person with the right intention, something changes in the mysterious letter that would indicate he found the soulmate. Problem is, itâs different for everyone: some get a drawing of their soulmate at the end of the letter; some simply have the name of their soulmate written at the end; some get an engraved stamp; and the list goes on and on. The main takeaway from it all is that his letter should have a visible change at the end⊠if he could even get to that point at this rate.
âOh my goshâŠ! Is thatâThatâs Kise-kun!!â
âEh?! Where, where?! Let me see!â
This is ludicrous. What kind of deity up there decided to put a twisted spin on this sappy, fairy tale trope? He gives a harsh exhale before he puts up a polite smile and continues on with his day. His first day at Teiko.
âPlease join our clubâŠ!â Several girls huddle around the table, eager to show the good-looking boy their information trifold-cardboard and flyers. Unsurprisingly, every single one of them had eyes of ulterior motive. At the sight, Kise resists the urge to roll his eyes at them. He stands there for a bit, watching their mouths move, but in truth, heâs not hearing a single thing out of them.
This girl looks decent⊠her hair is a bit weird, though.
Oh, she sure has a strange accent⊠and this girl has odd eyebrows.
Ugh, this one talks too much at a too-high pitch.
âAh⊠wellâŠâ He puts up a chagrined smile, not knowing where to look before he smoothly waves goodbye. âI have something else to check out. Keep yourselves well, ladies!â With that, he immediately prepares his ears for shrieks of admiration and lovesickness.
Good riddance.
âââ
As much as he hates to admit it, he still doesnât know what that letter exactly means to this day. Some of the sentences that consider themselves as âhintsâ or âinstructionsâ are way too vague to be considered such.
He begrudgingly opens up the envelope containing the letter for the umpteenth time again. Kise sits on his desk in his own room, illuminated by the sunlight filtering through the glass pane. Floating dust particles are instantly revealed where the light hits, but he doesnât care, his attention only on whatâs important. Chin on his desk, Kise lays the envelope and letter on the flat surface, trying to see what he could be missing. By now, the paper is slightly worn out from years of Kise thumbing, flipping, inserting, folding, unfurlingâyou name it, in hopes of finding any hidden clues as to whoâs the sender and how to solve this âriddleâ that ultimately determines the rest of his life. The seal wax on the envelope is beyond recognition, cracked and no longer aesthetically pleasing to look at.
An unassuming creme-white envelope laid tactfully on top of the same desk years ago, the light from his room window shining on it like a natural spotlight. Stray dust floated around, acting like confetti to announce its unexpected, (yet important) quiet arrival. Adorned with a wax seal, the middle of it was impressed in the center of the seal with a perfect copy of his âhankoâ that clearly had the kanji for his name. Which was weird⊠wasnât counterfeiting hankos illegal? Being beyond skeptical even for his young age at the time of the discovery, Kise thoroughly checked every crease and fold of the paper. Yes, he even dared to open the window and looked around in case someone had the gall to play a prank on him. Opening up the envelope did nothing to calm him down as soon as he realized it was the infamous âsoulmate letter.â
So God help him.
âWellâŠâ he sighs, picking up the letter closer to his face, chin still firmly on the wood. âIt wouldnât hurt to double-check one more time, right?â
[You will meet your soulmate in a place where there are many other people.]
He frowns not even a second into the letter. Well thatâs not EXACTLY helpful, is it? he ruefully thinks, recalling the constant faces surrounding him with hopeful, shining eyes. How am I going to figure out which of them is the right person? He groans in frustration before reluctantly moving on to the next part.
[You will have your first real encounter with them in a place where you always spend your time through the years. Be careful to keep track of where you are at all times.]
This also makes no damn sense. He blows a strand out of his hair in annoyance, but he stops at a realization. I guess Iâve been in the studio for a long time⊠It has been a couple years since he started out as a casual model, so perhaps heâs on the right track. He allows himself a small grin of triumph.
[Your soulmate is always with company, and they are never lonely. You must be careful to not actively seek out for your fated encounter, for youâll certainly miss them.]
His grin grows wider. This is itâŠ! It only makes sense that theyâre also involved within the modeling industry. Are they a photographer, makeup artist, stylist⊠or even, are they also a model like him? It would only make sense if theyâre never alone like he is. And maybe trying to seek them out when they also attract other people to them would make it harder to face them alone? He frowns. Or maybe itâs because theyâre one of my many admirers? That one is still a bit muddy. But he remains hopeful.
[You must remain committed, and seek out things that keep you steady and motivated. Only then is it possible for your soulmate to come to you instead.]
The most cryptic part of the letter. If heâs going to try to base this off of the premise of his soulmate being near his modeling job, maybe he should pursue the pastime beyond just a hobby and turn it into a career? But other than that, all the things heâs tried out, especially sports, have gotten boring and thus, been abandoned. He bangs his forehead on the table, grin wiped off of his face realizing how he instantly got kicked back into square one.
This⊠this doesnât make any sense!
âââ
Itâs been two years at Teiko. Still no sign of this soulmate. Heâs not surprised that by now, nearly the entire school somehow caught wind of the contents of his letterâŠ. though, rumors have been getting wilder and wilder as days pass.
âKise-kun.â
âEe-ee-eeeee!!â The sudden voice makes him jump out of his skin before he whirls around in a panic. âKurokocchi!! Could you stop doing that??â
Kuroko merely gives his signature blank look before he continues walking on like nothing happened.
âY-Youâre really gonna ignore me?!â
âItâs almost time for practice,â he says, turning back to face him expressing theatrical tears. âWe donât want to be late, or Akashi-kun will find out.â
At the mention of the captainâs name, Kise merely gulps before he catches up with Kurokoâs stride with no further complaints.
âBut did you have to pop out of nowhere?â
Honestly, I still donât get that part about him.
âI canât help it,â he deadpans, as if itâs the most obvious thing in the world. âItâs not much different from your popularity.â
âWhen you put it like that,â he sighs, putting his arms behind his head. âI guess I can see it.â He eyes the back of Kurokoâs headâwhoâs been walking aheadâfor several minutes before he finally musters up the courage to ask.
âSay, KurokocchiâŠâ
âYes?â Kuroko continues keeping up his pace, but he slightly looks back to Kise in acknowledgment.
âDid you get your soulmate letter yet?â
At the question, Kuroko merely blinks before he replies. âI received an envelope in my locker yesterday. I thought it was strange since no one ever notices me to begin with, so I thought someone mustâve mistaken my locker for someone elseâs.â Kise waits with bated breath for him to continue.
âAnd?â
Kuroko looks away for a second. âYeah, it had my hanko on it. I opened it to make sure it wasnât an error on the senderâs end. Sure enoughâŠâ he nods before finishing his reveal, âit was in fact, about my soulmate.â
âWhat did it say?!â Kise nearly jumps on Kuroko out of anticipation, but he barely manages to keep himself in check.
âThat Iâll find my soulmate when Iâm 17 to 18,â he says matter-of-factly. âSo that means⊠Iâd be a 3rd year in high school. But it also said I would already encounter them at several points in my life prior.â
Kise face-palms at his answer. âWhat the hell? How come yours is so straightforward?â
He only shrugs as a response, because they were already at the front steps of the gym. It looks like they got here on time. Kuroko announces the two of them before he helps pull out the ball carts. As shoe squeaks and ball dribbles echo throughout the interior, Kise stands there mulling over Kurokoâs information.
So Kurokocchi had the part of the soulmate information that only told the approximate time frame⊠Still, his was way too simple⊠or did he somehow decipher it really easily?
Kise makes a loud noise of frustration as he grabs and shakes his head, completely ignoring the concerned looks from the other first-string players.
Eurghh!! Why is mine too complicated?!
âââ
Kise looks at the letter in his hands again. Looking at it sort of pisses him off at this point, the wrinkled font clearly mocking and challenging him to solve it⊠if he could even do it to begin with. He holds the top of the paper with his two hands, his thumbs and forefingers gripping tighter. He can just rip it. He really can⊠whoâs stopping him?
Actually, has there been anyone who ripped their letter like this before?
He intensely stares at it for a few moments, juggling his options and weighing the consequences if he did choose to shred his fate into pieces. He gives a resigned pout when he comes to the conclusion that maybe itâd be best if he didnât test that theory out. With a huff, he roughly folds up the paper and shoves it into the envelope before tossing it haphazardly onto a low shelf.
âThatâs it,â he declares out to the room. âIâm not going to bother with this soulmate shit. Iâm going to live my life however I want, and no one can stop me otherwise.â
And suddenly, he feels ten times better, like a weight was lifted from his shoulders. I shouldâve done this sooner, he thinks, yawning as he gets ready for a good nap in his bed. Thinking about this is way too tiring and troublesome. Why should I even care about it anymore?
âââ
Somehow, his admirers became bolder and bolder, realizing that they should try to push his boundaries and see how much they can get away with. It started with tentative brushes of his shirt and his arms, thinking he didnât notice. Of course he fucking noticed, when ten other girls had the same idea. Birds of a feather flock togetherâsomething he remembers, snorting derisively in his mind yesterday. But what does he do? Put some distance between them and himself with a cheery smile and a fastbreak walk. And then today, they have the audacity to actually grab him?
Youâve got to be kidding me.
âIs it true that your soulmate letter told you that youâd meet someone so beautiful in a place no one goes to?â
âNo, thatâs wrong! Iâve heard that heâs looking for someone in a place where he works.â
âShould we also apply there thenâŠ?â
Kise drops his sunny disposition like a drop of a hat, and those who had their eyes and hands on him immediately flinch at the sudden change. All the loud whispers cease.
âK-Kise-kunâŠ? Is there something wrong?â
âIs there someone bothering you?â
How do you guys have no self awareness?
âAh, sorryâŠâ Kise gives a placid smile that doesnât quite reach his eyes. âYou seeââ
âOh!!~ RyĆta-kun!!â
Everyone jumps at the sound of his first name used so familiarly, but Kise is more shocked than the rest of them because he doesnât recognize the voice one bit. What the hell is going on?
A girl ruthlessly pushes through the crowd before she bounces to his side with such a saccharine smile that Kise is almost impressed by the feat. But his thoughts short-circuit when she comfortably wraps her perfectly-manicured hands around his left arm, her brunette hair swept across her shoulder and touching his sleeve. He gets a full whiff of her fragrance, and he slightly grimaces before his thoughts finally catch up to register what just happened.
What the fâ
âEveryone is so touchy today!!â she declares with a slight pout, ringing her voice loudly for everyone nearby to hear on purpose. âDonât you guys know RyĆta-kun is my soulmate?â
âO-Oiâwho saidââ Kise immediately tries to jump in, but the girl is quicker to cut him off.
âHeâs mine! Sorry girlies!â she says with a playful innocence before narrowing her eyes maliciously at the crowd. â... So youâll have to leave, âmkay?â No sooner she speaks those words, the group disperses, and for the first time, Kiseâs relatively alone in broad daylight in the middle of a public space. Though, he now has a bigger issue at hand. This girl.
Thereâs no doubt the entire school would talk about this the next day and weeks to come⊠probably months too. He drops his nice facade completely with her. âI donât know what youâre trying to do, but stop it. The shit youâre doing right now isnât cute in the slightest.â
âOh! RyĆta-kun⊠donât you know how attractive you are when you look at me like that?â She leans forward with a sneer of her own. âBut you should be thanking me, no? I got rid of the pests for you, didnât I?â
âI didnât need your help,â he scoffs, beginning to turn away to walk. âIf anything, you sound more desperate than I am.â Thereâs only one reason why sheâs here.
He fumes to himself. Sheâs annoying, trying to use me for my status as a model to boost her own reputation in a hopeful âscandal.â Fucking hell. Iâll have to ask my manager about this later for rumor control⊠He clicks his tongue, making it loud enough for her to hear.
At least he knows 100% that she isnât his soulmate. Thatâs one girl down out of infinity.
He walks with such controlled anger brewing within him that he almost didnât notice another girl walking past him. Almost.
âHana-chan!â a voice called out. He presumes that the brunette is who the voice is looking for. âWhyâd you ditch me like that? You left me with these boys all alone! You know how starved they areâThey totally looked at me like a piece of meat!â
âAish, (y/n)-chan!â He hears her annoying voice echoing behind him. He walks faster. âDonât you know you have that charm? Can you blame them?~ I wouldnât, hehe.â
âMouâ! Hana-chan!â You speed to Hana, completely ignoring Kise as you storm past him. âYouâre mean!â
He takes a quick side glance at you before his scowl turns harsher.
Who the hell in their right mind is friends with that bitch??
âSorry, sorry!~â
But Kise can obviously tell she isnât sorry in the least. Heâs even more pissed off when he hears you pleasantly laugh with her, completely accepting her half-assed apology.
Chapter 2, Kiseâs POV
âââ
âHuh? Whatâd you say RyĆta?â
âI said I want to play for the starting position.â Kiseâs voice takes on an arrogant tone, dropping all polite facadeâa rare occurrence, especially around so many people. The other first-string players watch the interaction anxiously, tension building in the gym.
This guy isnât taking me seriously at all, is he?
Haizaki merely gives him a condescending look when he turns to face Kise. âYou just joined the team. Hahâdonât be stupid.â He cocks a brow to taunt him further. âBesides, you canât even beat me at practice. What do you think youâre doing, eh?â
I know what Iâm doing, and you damn know it.
Kise merely gives a cocky look of his own. âI may not stand a chance against the other four, but I think Iâm ready to take you.â More than ready. The mentioned Generation of Miracles stand aside to watch Haizakiâs response, not making any particular move to interfere.
âHeh, you must not think much of me.â Haizaki puts his hands casually on his hips. âItâs obvious I just donât take practice seriously.â He licks his thumb as another taunt. âFine. Iâll give you a taste of what I can really do.â
Honestly⊠what type of sick guy even does that? I canât stand him.
. . .
A dunk there.
Another dunk.
Steal.
Backtip.
âUh-oh. Kise-chinâs getting destroyed,â a lazy voice rings over the shoe squeaks and echoing ball bounces in the one-on-one match.
Damn it, you didnât have to say that out loud, Murasakibaracchi⊠Damn it.
âMore! Iâm not done yetâŠ!â Kise breathes hard, wiping sweat off his chin with the back of his arm and takes on a defensive stance.
âItâll end the same way every time.â
âW-Whaâ!â
âYou and IâŠâ Haizaki deals the finishing blow with a brutal dunk. â... are cut from different cloth.â
Ah⊠shit. Damn it, I thought I had it this time⊠I thought⊠damnâŠ
âShĆgo-kun!â a feminine voice calls out from the doorway. A brunette girl pops her head to peep in. Hana. âAre you done with practice?â
Ugh⊠not her. Kise inwardly blanches at hearing her nauseating voice filling up the room and remembering the stunt she pulled the other day. Of all people to see me like this tooâŠ
âYeah, sorry. I just finished,â Haizaki calls out, voice turning casual. He walks to her with an outstretched arm, eager for a touch before she recoils in disgust.
âEurghâ!â she shrieks. âYouâre still drenched in sweat!â
âPft, Iâll take a quick shower.â He leans forward to her face, hands on his hips. âDo you wanna come with me?â
âOh, come on!â she chastises him with that sickenly sweet voice, knowing fully well of his implications.
Kise huffs a small breath of annoyance, though it doesnât do enough to convey his irritation for her. What a fake. People like her are so unbearableâthe worst.
Aomine sighs, watching from a distance away. âThat bastardâŠâ
âHey,â another player calls out. âIsnât that⊠Thatâs Kiseâs new girlfriend. Are they soulmates?â
Bullshit! Sheâs notâ
âRyĆta-kun?â
Donât use my first name like weâre familiarâ
âYeah.â Haizaki turns back to stare down at Kise, still on the ground with his hands and knees. âThis guy just challenged me and lost.â
âSeriously? Talk about lame~â
âAnyways, thatâs that.â Haizaki prepares to leave with the brunette. âLater, RyĆta-kun.â He adds an emphasis on the honorific to further humiliate him as he turns around.
Kise begins to tremble, fists tightening. All of you piss me off. He grits his teeth, willing himself to get up from his total loss and stand on his feet again. His hands are hanging loosely at his sidesâstance relaxed, but no one around him can tell what heâs actually feeling from the way he hides his face under his bangs. But he canât blame Haizaki⊠thatâs the most infuriating part. Heâs right⊠I challenged him and didnât stand a chanceâThat can only mean I have to get stronger.
âHey, wait!â Another voice cuts through his thoughts when more running footsteps echo down the gym hallway. Kise looks up with a disinterested expression at the source of the noise. âThere you are! Iâve been looking for you! Arenât we going to the arcade together?â
Haizaki merely smirks at you, giving you a once-over before flicking his hand towards himself to beckon you over. âThe more the merrier, eh?â
âOh, ShĆgo-kun! Youâre so sly!â
âEhhhhh?â You dramatically gasp, turning to Haizaki. âBut you agreed on going on a date with me today, didnât you?â Haizaki stops with a raised brow to try to recall before his grin grows wider at you.
âMy bad. So I did,â he hums. âThen,â he turns to the brunette, âAfter the shower, Iâll be with (y/n), yeah? Youâre more than free to join, though.â
âWhaaaat?â You tilt your head at him. âWe agreed to go alone together, geezâŠâ
Kise merely tunes you out from that point on, no longer interested in you and whatever shit you were going to spew out. Anyone involved with Haizaki like that isnât good to begin with. He slowly walks to use the exit on the opposite side of the gym to avoid the group for good measure.
Sheâs just like the rest of them. He yawns.
âââ
Another day, another practice. Even after Teiko destroyed Meiko in the national finals, there is no excitement buzzing among the basketball players from such an accomplishment, when such wins are simply obligatory and frequent.
âMidorimacchi? Whereâs everyone else?â Kise enters the gym nonchalantly but stops to do a double take to see half the room empty. Itâs supposed to be another regular day of practice isnât it?
Midorima pauses, his hands on a plastic bottle before he narrows his eyes. âThose fools chose to ditch.â
Fools? Kise widens his eyes. âYou canât meanâŠâ
âI donât understand their way of thinking,â he continued, putting down the bottle before picking up the ball. âThose who donât do everything humanly possible within their limitsâI canât be friends with such people. Luckily, my soulmate will not be the same.â
Soulmate?
âAominecchi and Murasakibaracchi? And hey, whereâs Akashicchi?â
âQuiet,â he says, going into a shooting position with the ball in his left hand. âYouâre ruining my focus, nanodayo.â He shoots a half-court shot. All net, as always⊠nothing less from Teikoâs shooting guard.
âIâm serious,â he slightly sulks, eyeing the ball bouncing out of the court before looking back at him. âI donât know whatâs going on here.â Midorima, sensing the serious tone, turns back as he adjusts his glasses.
âKuroko quit yesterday. Akashi is most likely gone regarding that. Though, I doubt losing Kuroko would make a huge impact to the starter lineup. Despite that, I believe Akashi wanted to be thorough and make sure thereâs a temporary sixth man installed in the meantime.â
Kurokocchi quit? Well, itâs not a big deal. Itâs almost the end of our 3rd year here anyways⊠before we graduate.
Kise further raises a confused brow. âAnd whatâs with the soulmate comment? Did you alreadyâŠ?â
âObviously not.â Midorima frowns at his insinuation. âIt is far too soon for me to get one.â
âThen why do you sound so confident?!â
âBecause I know,â he replies, closing his eyes briefly before looking down at the ball cart next to him. â⊠and trust that theyâll give me someone capable. Naturally, if I were to do everything possible on my end, that would only mean I would be granted someone of the same caliber in the future, nanodayo. There is no room for error or doubt.â
âUhâŠâ Kise merely gives a judgmental stare. âSo Iâm assuming you have a soulmate letter, and it told you this?â Midorima stops himself from shooting to stare at him incredulously, as if Kise was the most idiotic thing heâd ever laid eyes on.
âOf course not. Iâm not opening that letter until the oha asa predicts the luckiest year for cancers yet.â
âI⊠wow.â Thatâs Midorimacchi for you, always the weirdo. Canât believe he really thinks like that.
âYou have no place to speak when you also are nowhere near to finding your soulmate, idiot.â He shoots the ball again. He grabs another one without looking at Kise, whoâs currently no doubt giving him the look of a kicked puppy.
âI donât believe in soulmates,â he grumbles. âNot anymore, anyways. Itâs too annoying to think about.â
Midorima widens his eyes to stare at Kise, registering the foreign words coming from his mouth.
Midorimacchi, donât look at me like that⊠can you blame me? Itâs not that weird for a lot of people to think that, too.
Midorima merely sighs. âSay all you want, but you canât deny the fates, nanodayo.â He goes back to ignoring Kise again, this time for good. I guess he finds that really strange on his end.
âWellâŠâ Kise gives a heavy sigh of his own. âI guess I can get some drills in.â
âââ
Kaijoâs nice enough. Nothingâs really changed since becoming a 1st year here for a couple months. The campus might be twice the size of Teikoâs, and the basketball team isnât that bad. Kasamatsu might be scary, though, but he has no real complaints about him. Well⊠he reconsiders the thought, feeling his lower back throbbing. Actually⊠he COULD try to lessen up on his kicks⊠But I guess he means well. Heâs a bit too serious, though.
He still has plenty of complaints about girls following him around, but by now, heâs used to it. Call it a staple of Kise RyĆta, of some sorts. Kise of Kaijo⊠he thinks, remembering Kasamatsuâs lecture on his first day of scouting. It really does have a nice ring to it after all.
He smiles, recalling the new bonds heâs forged with his teammates these past matches. The Winter Cup is coming soon, so everyoneâs buzzing with excitement and anticipation to take home 1st place this year. Kurokocchi might be right about doing whatâs good for the team. I need to get stronger for our rematch. His simper only grows bigger.
Thinking about basketball and not worrying about the unnecessary things at hand is so liberating that he pretty much forgets the ordeal. (Like the business of soulmates, but heâs not thinking about that! Thatâs not even remotely in his consciousness, not one bit.)
Unfortunately for him, his smile is wiped from his face the moment he enters the gym.
âHeyah, heyah, heyah!â He furrows his brows in slight confusion at the voice, most definitely not belonging to any of his teammates. That sounds⊠familiar.
Your voice reverberates throughout the gym, but it seems like you have no regard for an indoor voice as your eyes sparkle (how creepy) at his teammates. And your own smile widens as seconds pass (definitely creepy). Kiseâs frown becomes harsher when he finally recognizes you.
I donât remember what she looks like⊠but that damn voice⊠wait a secondâ
Kasamatsu sighs at you, but he tries to keep a polite tone with you. Even so, anyone can sense how exasperated he is. âSorry, look,â he says cordially, eyeing Kise at the door before turning his gaze back at you. âIf youâre looking for Kise, heâs not here right now, and if you are going to wait for him, heâll be occupied with practice from soon until hours later.â
You do that same head tilt you did back at Teiko. âBut Iâm not here for him.â
His teammates merely sweatdrop at your answer. Right, like anyone believes that. Kise takes a quiet step in to put his duffel bag on an empty spot, no longer even bothering to give you his attention anymore.
âYeah, sorry.â Kobori steps in with an apologetic smile of his own. âIf you want to leave any gifts, you can leave it with the coach.â
âNo, no!â You widen your eyes theatrically, waving your hands around in front of your chest to emphasize your statement. âYou misunderstand me, seriously!â
Kasamatsu, having enough of you, shoots an exhale before turning to yell to the other players, âEveryone! Start warming up! And donât slack off, or Iâll kick your ass!â
âIâm not here for Kise,â your voice rings out loud and clear. âIâm here for Kasamatsu-senpai.â Everyone freezes at the mention of the captainâs name. What business did a 1st year have with a 3rd year? They spare a look in the captainâs direction, but even heâs caught off guard. Kise looks up at you from behind, a few meters away.
Does she even know that Iâm actually here, orâŠ?
âBecause,â you say, a little too brightly. âI think youâre my soulmate, Kasamatsu-senpai!â
Said captain immediately chokes on air.

PLSSS I NEED SOME HEADCANONS FOR AKASHI, AOMINE, AND MOMOI ON HOW THEIR CRUSH FLUSTERS THEM;;; like she could be eating like a chipmunk and smile, and their just whippedđđ separate headcanons pls <3
Iâm always gonna start nearly every Akashi headcanon with how this is not applicable to boku-Akashi đ anyways,,,, moving onâŠ
ore-Akashi is equally hard to fluster though, letâs get that out of the way, but the soft side of him he has now would make him more inclined to feel that itâs okay to be flustered with youâa.k.a. let down his guard more around you
one way to fluster him is by using the element of surprise on your side
if youâre intentionally trying make him flustered, he easily sees through it, so usually, your schemes of making him lose his cool will not work because your facial expressions and giddy body movements make you way too obvious (even if you were careful to be subtle, he already knows)
heâd be amused and give you those knowing teasing smiles (that may or may not end up flustering you instead, letâs be honest⊠who can stay calm after seeing a smile from THE Akashi?)
itâs the unintentional things you do, any endearing quirks or habits you may have, that short-circuits him sometimes, because those are something he canât expect and predict all the time
exhibit A:
âAkashi, congratulations on winning! I know you probably win all the time, and you donât think of it as anything, butâŠâ you would avert your own gaze and look at him again⊠maybe do a nervous action (twiddling your thumb? rubbing your neck? rubbing your arm? twirling a strand and playing with your hair? fiddling with your clothes?) before finishing your thought. âBut I think itâs something worth celebrating!â
itâs the fact that you have no idea the things youâre doing is affecting his heart that gets him outwardly flustered; the idea that heâs the only one between the two of you who knows these details about you gets him a bit flushed
he lives to have that exclusive knowledge about you
exhibit B:
you smile at him whenever he comes to you, or if you werenât one to smile much, your aura would immediately lighten up upon seeing him and such
it really gets his gears moving because that just shows that someone out there actually sees him as a good person, who doesnât look at him with fear or awe⊠but to be fair, he wouldnât blame you if you did, considering his entire period of time when he was exhibiting his âbokuâ side
so when you smiled at him with no reservations the first time, he REALLY got flustered in a sense where his eyes widened, his lips parted, and his eyes drank in the sight of your face for a second before he regained his usual composure⊠still, he canât exactly control the color of his slight flush on his face
but even though youâve smiled at him without fail every single time, part of him is still surprised and caught a bit off guard that youâre that happy to have him around
result? he actually becomes someone who gets flustered quite often with you in the beginnings of the crush phase (unfortunately though, unless you have your own set of Emperor Eyes, you wouldnât be able to notice)
when heâs having his âmini-flusters,â a usual tell-tale sign is that heâd stay still from where he is and stare at you silently before you even notice
so if youâre just chatting away and notice silence on your end, you probably donât even have to look at him to have a general idea that heâs having a frazzled moment of his own⊠donât try to look at his face though, because then heâll catch on what youâre trying to do and continue on the conversation like nothing happened
heâll know pretty quickly that you also have a crush on him, and when he realizes that moment, he nearly damn short-circuits into the next zone dimension to the point where you even had to wave a hand aggressively in front of his face
âAkashiiiiiiii⊠helloooooooo? Earth to the emperor?â
âAh,â he would blink back into reality. âMy apologies, I didnât mean to space out.â
âWhat were you thinking about anyways?â
and he would give that smile before he would say, âNothing much.â
when you do things for him out of the goodness of your own heart (and not expecting anything back), that also throws him off a little
when you dote on him even as friends, he feels like heâs truly loved and cared for (this poor guy really got neglected in his childhood, could you blame him?)
and usually, heâs the one who needs to take care of everyone else, always being in a position of leadership
âSheesh, you needa take care of yourself too!â
âPardon?â
âYouâre always doing way too much to make sure everything runs smoothly, and everyone isnât having any issues, but have you ever thought to take care of your own needs?â
âOf course, adequate nutrition and rest are essential in playing optimal games.â
âNo, no!â you insist. âYour mental needs! Your emotional needsâlike, I canât put it into words⊠erm⊠someoneâs also gotta look out for you too, in case youâre struggling and need help sometimes⊠uh, maybe I can be that person for you? If you want that isâI donât mean to intrudeâŠâ
that is when he knew⊠you were the one for him
he merely looks at you like youâre the brightest thing in the room before he softly agrees, âYes⊠I suppose youâre right.â
if you also managed to figure out he has a crush on you (you must have some SERIOUS instincts and keen eyes to figure that out⊠or have Kuroko tell you something to know) and confessed to him out of the blue before he did
youâre going to see him visibly stiffen up and have that widened eyes and parted lips on his face while watching your every move⊠were you joking? did he misinterpret your words when you actually meant something as close friends?
bonus: if you happen to be the cheeky, sly person, smile wider at him after you confessed to shut the poor manâs brain down into oblivion
AKASHI.EXE is starting to reboot
heâll take a few seconds longer to break out of his stupor, but when he does, heâll simply straighten himself before replying, âIâm glad you like me, (l/n)-san. Itâs relieving to hear that you also reciprocate these feelings for me, to say the least.â
YOU.EXE shut down when he gently takes your hand into his
but after you guys get together, he wonât be as flustered as often, because 1.) heâs confident about how you and he feel about each other now and 2.) heâd come to know you so well that he would probably expect 90% of the things you throw at him
Momoi Satsuki
compliment her
no, really
Momoiâs hard work was never appreciated enough even back in Teiko
but she never really minded/cared(?) because her mindset has always been about doing something for the sake of the team and doing what sheâs good at to help out
sheâs been sorting out her feelings with Kuroko, finally realizing that she wasnât truly in love with him, but more so in love with the idea of someone who saw her more than just for her bodyâin love with the idea of someone with unconventional priorities and mannerisms rather than the predictable, surface-level things sheâs seen in most people
but with you? something else tickled differently in her heart when youâre near
she thought she knew what love was, but it turns out, you gave her a whole new mystery to solve all over againâwhat was this funny feeling she always gets with you? is it ârealâ this time? what if you were just another Kurokoâa good friend with a perspective on life that differed a bit from hers?
but when you told her one day how much you admire and appreciate the amount of work she puts into basketball and the irreplaceable skillset she had that was essential to Tououâs victories
she flushed the brightest cherry red
âOh⊠thatâsâŠâ she would easily stammer in your presence, not knowing how to take your praise gracefully. âEh? Wellâthatâsââ
she would recollect herself before she would jump and tackle you for a hug in true Momoi-fashion before squealing out your name:
â(y/nnnnnnnnnn)!â
âM-MomoiâI canât⊠breatheâŠâ
honestly, she probably wouldnât be calm if she heard it from any other person to begin with
but with you??? sheâs malfunctioningânot even Aomineâs rude comments snaps her out of her daze for the rest of the day
âOi, Satsuki, get outta my sight if youâre just gonna be in the way. SheeshâŠâ
â(y/n)⊠(y/n)âŠâ she would sound like a broken record for a bit, holding her flushed cheeks with two hands even after Aomine gives her a tired glare out of the corner of his eyes. â(y/n) complimâ⊠complimented me?! Ehhhhhh???â
âShut up alreadyââ
*unfortunately, her pink lovey-dovey aura around her only intensifies*
compliment any part of her body that no one usually does: her eyes and her hair especially
âUm⊠(y/n)-chan?! Youâre⊠staring. What is it?â
âAh, sorry,â you chuckle out a sigh with a chagrined smile. âI just find your eyes really pretty. Your lashes especially frame them so well, too. I guess I never noticed until now?â
â??!?!?!?!?!??!?!â Sheâs staring at you with the widest eyes (that you just complimented, by the way!) before she hesitates
âO-Oh!⊠Do you⊠really think soâŠ?â
âOf course! Why would I say it otherwise?â
Momoi has ascended into heaven
âMomoi, how long have you had your hair like this?â
âHuh?â she stops whatever she was doing to look at you before continuing, âIâve had long hair for as long as I remember.â
she hesitates before asking a daring question: âDoes it look badâŠ?â
âI love your hair,â you reply candidly. âYou pull this type of hair the best out of everyone Iâve met, in my opinion.â
at your words, she would unconsciously tuck some stray strands behind her hair as she (predictably) turns as pink as her hair, making the effort to looking down at her shoes or her clipboard if she had it with her
(youâre a little smug at how easily you can make her flustered⊠itâs a personal hobby of yours)
bonus points if youâre close to her already and youâre carding your fingers through her hair strands so casually, as if itâs second nature to you
âJFUERIG///2/œ,3OR34T!!!?!?1/1â is what her mind is thinking right now
play with her hair and do loose braids with it too, and youâll be amused to find her as stiff as a backboard, completely silent for the first time in forever
the entire GoM group and the Touou team are completely stunned when they see this shy, demure (and very quiet) side of Momoi with you for the first time
when you do anything thatâs anything romantic/cheesy/tropey to her or for her sake, sheâs going to paradise for a week straight, replaying everything in her mind constantly
like holding her shoulder to guide her away from people in the crowd⊠buying her something to eat/drink when you also go to the convenience store/vending machine to get something for yourself⊠buy her a hair clip or two, maybe earrings⊠invite her to go to places that could potentially be considered date locations (Momoi would eat this up to no end and potentially overthink and overheat)âŠ
say a pickup line on her (genuine or to tease her, itâs up to you), and sheâll faint on the spot (refer to her fainting on Kise after meeting the adorable Nigou for the first time)
bonus: Kuroko plays wingman to get you two together⊠Aomine might reluctantly help after a while seeing you two âhanging out way too muchâ
Aomine Daiki
Aomine and Momoi are two peas in a pod, whether heâd like to admit it or not
and that would include having one similar way of being flustered
compliment his basketball skills in any way or form but sound super earnest about it
he normally wouldnât care about the admiration and praises⊠because heâs always been in the spotlight as the ace of Teiko and ace of Touou
but youâre his crush, and heâs still a regular teen who wants to be noticed (!!)
he wouldnât be obvious in being flustered, but itâll definitely catch him off guard
âTch, itâs nothing⊠really,â he would sigh while averting his gaze
wanna take flustering him a step further? start learning basketball because you want to also come to love the sport like he does (but donât tell him this! have him accidentally discover you trying to learn how to shoot before you explain why you got inspired to start)
already know how to play basketball? even betterâwhen he sees you adopting a playing style like his while he passed by a court one day, his jaw drops and his face feels an unfamiliar flush on his cheeks
âHuh? Ainât thatâŠâ he stops in his tracks to squint a bit at your familiar figure. â(y/n)? Whatâre they doing here?â
he stares at you unabashedly before you notice an intense gaze and turn towards him, holding the ball under one arm
âAomine-kun!â you would always call out to him, waving your arm enthusiastically to get him to come by
when he lazily walks by and asks what you were even doing, you look at him like he was the dumbest person in the world
âUm⊠basketball? What else would I be doing?â
you further explained yourself why you were on the courts today, and all the while, Aomine would bring a hand to his neck, turning his neck and face to the side
how could he look at you when he could feel his face getting so warm and his neck sweaty?
you were grinning at his uncharacteristically boyish side, no question about that
he would probably demand in a roundabout way to teach you because âit hurts my eyes to see you suck this much,â but we all know his eyes are getting a real treat outta seeing you playing the sport he loves to death
the third type of fluster he has is the MORTIFIED type, a rare one that would probably never happen under normal circumstances
emphasis on normal, btw
but him having a crush on anyone isnât normal to begin with, so to be honest, anythingâs fair gameâŠ
imagine that heâs coming to the gym for practice, yet once again, peeved that one of the Touou members had something to do with his missing âdirty magazinesâ
until he notices you. holding one of his magazines. in your hands. TURNING EVERY PAGE TO CURIOUSLY LOOKâŠ
he has never run faster in his entire life to snatch that flimsy booklet out of your hands
his speed right then and there really puts his agility on the courts in official matches to shame (Wakamatsu is probably pissing his pants trying not to laugh as we speak)
does he care if any other normal person saw his collection? No
in fact, he even shamelessly flaunts that fact
but with you⊠he wants to look good in front of you, make that good âfirst impressionâ so to speak, but his hopes are as good as dashed as soon as he sees you staring at âHorikita Mai-chanâsââ
âWhaâWhat the hell are you doing?!!â he yells quite unceremoniously at no one in particular, snatching the magazine and hiding it behind his back. âAnd you!!â he turns to you, clearly not his usual collected self. âWhy the hell are you here?!â
âOh,â you merely blink. âI was just here because your teammates told me youâd be more willing to practice if I was here, so I came. That was yours?â
Aomine has no chance to either deny or confirm, because Imayoshiâright on cueâhauls out a portable basketball locker (yâknow, those metal baskets with wheels) FILLED with what Aomine recognizes as his entire collection
and Imayoshi casually hands you another volume like heâs giving you his homeworkâ
Imayoshi may probably need to sleep with his eyes actually open from then on if he ever had the balls to try this on the ace of Touou, but if you reassure Aomine⊠maybe the captain can surviveâmaybe
whoâs gonna tell Aomine that Wakamatsu and Momoi also played a huge part in getting their hands on his entire collection?
if it was just one magazine, Aomine can recover rather quickly, but if Imayoshi pulled up the latter situation, I donât think he would ever have the courage to face you alone again unless you somehow reassure him that his⊠interesting collection didnât deter you from seeing him in a âlesser lightâ at all
âAomine, I donât think your porn collection is something to be ashamed of, although⊠Iâm a bit concerned how easily your teammates got a hold on them. You oughtta learn how to store them properly.â
heâs comically gaping at you, his face terribly red and he has NO IDEA how to begin
yeah, he had imagined dozens of ways that he can talk to you privately and be cool and suave
NONE OF THEM were close to the actual scenario currently at hand
heâd probably try to pass off like the entire incident wasnât a big deal, scoffing and clicking his tongue while turning his face away, hands in his pockets
but you knew better, and it was obvious that this man before you had his tongue twisted, becoming putty in your presence
if you laugh/chuckle with that sparkle in your eyes at him right there and then, heâs also going to malfunction and potentially never recover
is it alright if i request hcs for midorima introducing his shy g/n s/o to the team (maybe theyâre his lucky item for the day? i cant see his tsundere self introducing them volutarily) and midorima is being soft with them cause theyâre a bit scared of the team??
I HEAR YA LOUD AND CLEAR, A VERY CUTE REQUEST, i gotchu fam <3
@knb-kreations
Midorima x shy!Reader
[Headcanons]
as a reserved individual himself, Midorima is not one to broadcast his relationship out to everyone, and this sentiment is only stronger when he knows that youâre even more introverted than himself
even so, after dating for a substantial amount of time, he wants to include you into his life and potential dream career in basketball⊠and that would entail bringing you to meet his inner circle of his friends teammates
the only problem (and the reason why heâs held off in introducing you to them for so long) is that his teammates can be quite rowdy (and have some⊠unique quirks? but Midorima isnât really one to talk)⊠especially that Takao Kazunari
still, he never felt like he had to introduce you to them right away⊠when the right opportunity will present himself, heâll do it
besides, you donât seem in any rush to meet them anytime soon from the way youâd rather prefer spending your time with Midorima alone
well, until one day, the Oha Asa predictions presented that opportunity:
âToday, Cancers are in a unique situation from the rest! It seems like their luck can be quite stagnant or off the charts depending if they have their lucky item for today! Ready to hear it, everyone?! Todayâs lucky item for Cancers isnât a standard one! It may differ for every Cancer, and thatâs the beauty of fate!~ Cancers should bring along with them something that they cherish the most! But be carefulâŠ! Cancers should also take care in making sure nothing happens to their lucky item today!â
Midorima, in hearing the prediction from his TV, flinches out of surprise, mostly because the first thing that came to his mind after hearing âmost cherishedâ was you
but alas, heâs going to follow fate down to a T, with no exceptions
when he approaches you early morning, he tells you with the straightest face:
â(y/n)-san, according to the Oha Asa, youâre my lucky item today.â
âU-U-Uh⊠um, is⊠is that a pick-up line?â
âHmph! As if I would stoop myself down to Takaoâs level. The Oha Asa predicted it so, and I will not take any chances today.â
âUm⊠what do I have to do then?â
Midorima softens his gaze at you and mumbles, âNothing really. Just stay by my side for the entirety of today.â
thankfully, today was a Saturday, so at least school wouldnât be an obstacle between the two of you being separated
so here you are, tagging along with Midorima to do some mundane trips around the neighborhood
Midorima please⊠this is literally just a date but he refuses to acknowledge it as such
he still had basketball practice that evening though, so by then, it was time for him to go to the gym to start warmups
⊠but wait, that would mean heâd have to bring you there tooâŠ
âAhem⊠youâŠâ Midorima clears his throat. âDo you mind just sitting on the benches inside? Thereâs no need for you to make conversation if you do not wish to do so.â
âO-Of course!â you exclaim. âI⊠I wanna see you play too⊠even if itâs just practice, I-I hope your teammates wonât mind?â
âWell Iâll make sure theyâll mind their own business.â
âWould I really bring good luck to you by just sitting and watching you, ShintarouâŠ? Itâs hard to believe that the Oha Asa said that Iâm⊠supposedly lucky?â
âThe Oha Asa is never wrong,â he says confidently. âBesides, I donât see it anything but an advantage when I know youâll be here to provide support in your own way. After all, you do make the most out of your capabilities and do your best, nanodayoâŠâ
Midorima makes sure to enter the gym first, with you tailing behind and taking shelter behind his broad back
even despite that, nothing could prepare you for the chaos inside
a basketball FLEW to you and nearly killed you if it wasnât for the fact that Midorima easily stopped the ball in its projection
âFools! Are you ever careful in shooting?!â
âAh shut it! Not everyoneâs like you, Midorima!â
âIf you have that much energy complaining, then you have the energy to start warming up, rookie.â
Midorima sighs in response to their comments, but youâre behind him peeking out a bit and then ducking behind his back again when you saw how intimidating they were
âWh-Whoa!! Shin-chan brought someone over?!â
âWhat?â
âWhere?!â
âThe brat brought someone over?!â
Takao immediately skips over to him and you, curiously peeking to see who Midorima, the ever-so serious and hardworking dude, brought to practice; itâs very rare that heâd bring his own Teiko ex-teammates along, let alone anyone unrelated to basketball
âOh! Arenât you (y/n)-chan?â Takao asks, tilting his head with a childish wonder
âO-Oh, umâŠâ you reply, darting your eyes to Midorima before continuing. âItâs nice to meet you⊠Iâve heard a lot about you from Shintarou, Takao-kun.â
Midorima turns red and denies it to his breath as he hounds on Takao as an outlet for his embarrassment
Miyaji and Ćtsubo are peeved but lowkey curious about why Midorima brought you here, so they ask⊠to which Midorima replies:
â(y/n)-san is my lucky item for today, nanodayo.â
âCaptain, can I throw my familyâs pineapples at him??â
âShin-chan, Iâd normally laugh, but did you just label a person as an object?â (to which Midorima immediately interjects, âA-Absolutely not!!â)
âAlright, you little shit, you 1st-years are really getting on my nerves right nowâŠâ
âW-W-WaitâŠ!â you exclaim, slightly stepping out from behind Midorimaâs back. âPlease donât be mad at him⊠I wanted to watch tooâŠâ but when everyoneâs attention immediately shoots to you, you squeak and hide behind his back again
from the way you clutch onto Midorimaâs shirt from behind, Midorima immediately turns around to you with a soft tone of voice
âHey, come on now⊠theyâre not bad people, nanodayo. You know Iâll be there by your side if anything happens, (y/n)...â
everyoneâs REALLY quiet hearing how Midorima talks to you, and theyâre like WTF???? WHERE DID THIS SIDE EVEN COME FROMâŠ.?
only when Takao blows a slow whistle to break the silence does everyone break into quiet snickers, ready to make fun of Midorima to death about it
as Midorima gives you a short pat on the head and turns to walk to put down his duffel, all of his teammates follow him to give him those âplayfulâ hits and slaps on the back and arms LMAOO some may have actually knocked his spine out of his body though ngl
youâre just standing there timidly, not knowing what to exactly do next, and Miyaji notices you and approaches you
âOy,â he says with his usual rough tone of voice. âIf you really wanna watch, you can sit over there. Donât be in the way though.â He points to the specific bench, but softens his usual Spartan-like, harsh frown just a tad bit when he sees you cowering a bit
âSorry⊠uh, (l/n)-san, right? Take care of the idiot for us.â
âWhat do you think youâre doing?â Midorima immediately stalks over to the two of you, knowing full well how⊠scary Miyaji can be, and Miyajiâs frown comes back
âHuh? Nothing for you to be concerned about, rookie.â Miyaji KICKS Midorima to the court to start doing shooting drills and then turns to you like nothing happened
âW-Wait, ShintarouâŠ?â
âHeâll be fine,â he sighs, ruffling his hair. âIf he does anything stupid, let one of us know, alright?â
âHeâs been, um, good to me.â
and Miyaji gives a little smile for the first time as a stamp of approval, and then he goes back to practice while you lightly skip to the bench⊠that smile MAY have convinced you that Midorimaâs team wasnât so scary after all
irk marks appear on Midorimaâs head as he prepares to strangle Takao, only to remember you were watching him
âAhem⊠(y/n) is my lucky item, regardless of what day or prediction.â
âEurghh, thatâs so sappy, what the fuckââ
âShut up if you know whatâs good for you, Takao.â
the entire team = your personal bodyguards for REAL, and itâs almost scary how every single teammate uses their own âsofterâ side when talking to you directly like⊠Midorima is now kinda regretting that he introduced you to them so late? he didnât know that his teammates would be THAT considerate to you
especially Takao⊠heâd say a bunch of jokes to get you to laugh but heâd know EXACTLY when to back off and let you chill out??
the upperclassmen would be very polite and soft spoken with you?? like they all have their own respective younger siblings, so theyâd definitely treat you like one
Kimura always offers you to taste-test his familyâs produce for free, free of charge, zilch, nada
Midorima wonders if they like you better than him (spoiler alert: of course they do)
to get under Midorimaâs nerves while you arenât around, theyâd always go, âBro, whereâs your lucky item???â in referring to you LMAOOO (Takao is ESPECIALLY guilty of this)
Craving for angst with kise please!! Like both are afraid to act on their feelings which ends up hurting the both of them unconsciously. Idk, maybe kise is trying to âtestâ the girl, but went a bit too far i guess. Whatever floats your boat!! I just want angst but maybe hopefully still HEA in the end (or whichever your muse takes you) ;-; thank youu â€ïž

He holds you so gently, the touch so feather-light as he cradles your head and dips his own head in for a soft peck. The warmth of his lips makes you feel things you shouldnât feel, things that you still chased for more in a never-ending cycle. You hold onto his hands thumbing your temples to try to anchor yourself further into the bliss, but it ends all too soon when he separates from you and gives you a radiant smile.
You were rudely pulled out of your rose-tinted trance when you heard gasps and chatter amongst the gawking students nearby, particularly Kiseâs fans. He doesnât pay any mind to their reactions and turns his friendly demeanor towards them.
âSo you see everyone,â he cheerfully says. âIâm sorry I canât accept any of your affections, as much as it flatters me so⊠after all, I have my dear (y/n)-cchi by my side!â
Groans and cries rung throughout the campus as most wail about missing out the opportunity to be Kiseâs romantic partner, but before you can listen to their laments, Kise hurriedly tugs you away to the privacy of the back of a building nearby, away from prying eyes and ears. He drops your wrist just as fast and yawns with a stretch.
âWhat time should we meet up tomorrow?â he casually says, taking out his phone from his pocket.
âHuh?â
âWell, we canât exactly sell our image of us being a couple unless we walk to and from school together consistently, right (y/n)?â
The rose-tinted lenses on your self-indulgent fantasy shatters to the ground instantly. You gulp, the swallowed spit hitting down to your stomach in heavy dread, where it was previously occupied by fluttering butterflies just moments prior.
This isnât real.
âAh⊠um,â you hesitated, thinking of a reasonable time, so you can wake up and get ready accordingly. âHow about this timeâŠâ
âYeah, that sounds good,â he replies, shutting off his phone before he walks a few steps away from you but then stopping. âHuh, uh⊠should I walk you home first? There might be some nosy people around, and we might as well get some practice in as an official couple.â
âW-Why donât we start tomorrow morning instead?â you suggest. âA lotâs happened today, and well, I wanna have some time to myself.â Kise impassively stares at you for a couple of seconds before he forms a grin.
âAh ha, well then, (y/n)-cchi,â he shouts jovially, making sure that his voice rang throughout the area for anyone nearby to hear. âIâll be waiting for you tomorrow morning, my love!â
âY-YeahâŠâ you mumbled, your hand held up in a half-hearted wave. âSee youâŠâ
With that parting, you turned to the opposite direction to exit through the side gates to get to your home. Your mind scrambles to recall the impulsive decisions you decided to take on a whim today. The grip on your bag tightens as you finally realized what sort of situation you got yourself into.
You like Kise, plain and simple. Youâve always gazed longingly at him whenever his presence entered within your line of vision. You couldnât even fault his fans for being so whipped for the basketball player in the first place, not when you felt like you were more enthralled by him than anyone else. So what does a love-stricken fool like you do when the source of attraction directly asks you to partake in a ârelationship?â You immediately accept his conditional proposal on auto-pilot before he barely finishes his sentence.
It felt so wrong, yet so right. How can you hate this arrangement when you enjoyed that first kiss you shared with Kise earlier? But how can you love this arrangement when you knew Kise only kissed you to drive everyone off? You stopped on the sidewalk and heaved a huge exhale, and you continued to walk again, the action not even remotely able to clear your head. Your mind continues to swirl and race.
You agreed to this. He even laid out his intentions very clearly to you, and he was more than ready to leave you alone if you didnât consent to this. But stupid, desperate you did. You were ashamed to feel even a shred of flattery when he told you that you were the only one he can ask to drive off his fans in this only effective method: a relationship.
âWhy me?â you said, looking up at his casual posture. âDonât you have someone you like to ask to be in a relationship? Iâm sure theyâd be more than happy to accept youâŠâ
âWell,â he mumbled. âI donât really have someone in mind⊠youâre kinda the only one who doesnât drool over me whenever Iâm near, and I just ought to ask for your help.â
âW-Well,â you slightly stammered. âIâm okay with helping you, right, soâŠâ
âThis isnât something to accept so readily, you know,â he said, raising a brow. âI know this is super sudden, and it wouldnât be fair for me to force an answer out of you right at this moment. Besides, I donât think thereâs any incentive for you to be in this either? Itâs okay if you donât want to.â
âN-No!â you interrupted, but you coughed to regain your composure. âI mean, I do have something in this⊠maybe if I got with you, people would stop trying to harass and tease me if I had someone like you by my side.â That was a half-truth, but you knew there was no way you could reveal your crush to him⊠not when he believed you were âdifferentâ from the others. But can anyone blame you for sticking up for Kise when someone was talking about him like a piece of meat rather than a normal person? âBesides, for you to get to this point, things mustâve gotten too chaotic to simply tell them to stop, right?â
âHuh⊠is that so,â he said, stretching his neck, but you didnât know whether or not he intentionally ignored your last question. âWell, if youâre fine with this, Iâm letting you know now that weâll be doing actual couple stuff, likeâŠâ He pauses for a second to gauge your reaction. âHugging, hand-holding⊠probably kissing tooâŠâ
âY-Yeah,â you nodded. âThatâs fine with me! And weâll have a code word in case either of us overstep our boundaries in any way⊠maybeâŠâ
âUnagi,â he said.
âHuh? Why?â
âBecause theyâre the bane of evilâŠâ
âItâs just a dish, butâŠâ you laughed, giddy at how he already showed a different side to you apart from his cool persona. âAlright, letâs go with that.â
How long were you able to keep this up? You pat yourself on the cheeks to dismiss the rest of your fantasies. If you keep this up, Kise will soon notice how you actually were head-over-heels for him all this time, and surely youâll lose any future chance with him. Besides, maybe you can use this unique arrangement to learn about Kise and his hobbies other than basketball. Yes, you tell yourself, jogging the rest of the way home. It wonât be so bad, after all.
âââ
Starting today, youâll be officially dating Kise.
Thatâs how it is on paper, anyways.
How are you supposed to act while dating the Kise RyĆta? Equally cool and flamboyant? Athletically capable? Would you weird out Kise if you were the one initiating physical affection?
â(y/n)!â
You flinch, not expecting anyone to call for you so early in the morning, and your walking route to school was never shared with another student as far as you were concerned. After all, your path was a little more obscured and unorthodox compared to the majority of students traversing the main neighborhood paths.
âSorry⊠did I scare you?â You stop and turn to the source of the voice, only to be surprised when you see Kise himself. âWhy do you look so surprised? Didnât we agree on the time to meet up and walk to school together?â
âOh⊠yeahâŠâ In the midst of your thoughts, it seems that you forgot the arrangements you made with him yesterday evening. âMy bad?â
âOh, come on,â he gives a mock-hurt face with a hand to his chest. âAm I that forgettable, (y/n)?â
âN-No!â you immediately deny. You knew it was more like the other way around, the way constant thoughts of Kise preoccupy in your head too much. How can you ever forget him when he constantly runs through your mind everyday for so long? Kise merely gives a good-natured sigh before he changes the subject.
âKidding,â he says, holding out a hand to you. âSeriously though, get your act together. We gotta start acting the part if we want this to work.â You stare at his hand, hesitating for a split moment before you put your own hand on top. His large hand easily encompasses yours, and the warmth makes you widen your eyes. It⊠felt nice.
You were so entranced by your linked hands that you failed to notice how Kise was staring at your face with a sharp glint in his eyes, but when you look up back to his face, he easily morphs his expression into his signature grin. He swings your hands around like an excited kid and turns to walk ahead to tug you along.
âAlrighty!~ Letâs hurry together before I get chewed out by Kasamatsu-senpai!â
âKise, have you ever considered that itâs not really your tardiness that gets the captain mad but more so about the way you seem to irritate him with the way you skip around?â
â(y/n),â he says with a pout, âyou know youâre not being convincing when you use my last name to address me as your boyfriend.â
âR-Right,â you stammer, still not used to the entire situation. âAh⊠wait. Donât you uh⊠call people who are close to you with -cchi?â
âHuhâŠâ he mumbles, looking up at the cloudy sky before looking ahead of the path. âNot necessarily people who are close, just people who I really admire. I guess I addressed you like that yesterday without really thinking.â
âU-Uh, right⊠sorry.â He stops walking with your hand still in tow, and you almost bumped into his back at his sudden movement. He turns to you with a quite serious look.
âDo you want me to call you that?â
It was a normal question, but for some reason it felt like the next sentence coming from your mouth would make a huge impact on the way the two of you would interact in the future. From the way Kise looks at you with such a scrutinizing gaze, it feels like a trick question, and youâre not sure how to answer it. Your mouth goes dry when you try to reply.
âI⊠I donât know.â
âYou donât know?â Kiseâs eyes widen a fraction before he gives an unexpected chortle. âPfft⊠how do you not know what you want to be addressed as?â
âArrgh, oh shut it!â you frown, hitting his arm in a fluster before stalking off ahead. You remember that you were supposed to go to school together, and you begrudgingly stop and turn back to wait for him to catch up. âRyĆta, just call me whatever you want. Youâre already calling me by my first name, so I doubt anyone would care if you added -cchi or not.â Still, your cheeks turn pink at the realization that Kise would be uttering your first name for the next couple⊠whenever this relationship will last.
âYou⊠wait up!â Kise wheezes dramatically, despite the both of you knowing full well how easily he can catch up to your stride. âYou really shouldnât be treating your boyfriend like that! Especially on the first day!â Kise holds your hand again to lead you to the rest of the way to school.
All the while, youâve been staring at his back, your heartstrings being tugged so mercilessly at the cacophony of emotions you were feeling the whole time. He felt so warm, so inviting, but the way he held your hands felt cold and transactional.
âââ
Youâre not sure how to react whenever Kise introduced himself as your âboyfriendâ to everyone or whenever nosy students inquired about your new âboyfriend.â All you could do was gulp and manage the most convincing act you could do within different contexts. Smile, laugh, get bashful, be modest in talking about how Kise managed to âlikeâ you, pretend you know many embarrassing stories and sides to him that no one else did. Truthfully, you were just as in the dark as anybody else.
You think the only reason why everyone bought the couple-act was due to how enamored you were in talking about him. This was the only response you could be truthful about. At least you could use your huge crush to your advantage in portraying yourself as the âlovey-doveyâ half of the couple. Yet it feels unbelievably wrong.
You knew you had to prepare yourself some preset answers for curious students, but you didnât expect yourself to be participating in neverending âinterviewsâ in these social settings. You thought this relationship would entail a closer access to Kiseâs true self, but things suggest otherwise.
âRyĆta,â you say, peering up at his face as the both of you walk down the hallway to your designated spot for lunch together. Even as you two walk, he puts a reasonable distance between the two of you when there is no one in close proximity. Even when you two are together, he only grabs your hand when itâs socially convenient. Even when Kise approaches you to talk, you know itâs never anything beyond for the sake of acting. And you agreed to this entire thing.
âHm?â He spares a glance to your figure before returning his gaze ahead.
âUh, I brought extra food today,â you say, trying to use this situation to try to express your genuine feelings to him in small increments. âI brought an extra bento box too⊠in case, you donât wanna actually share oneâŠâ He was about to reply before a pair of students turned around the corner to head towards your direction. Kise narrows his eyes at the unexpected turn of events, and immediately turns to you brightly.
â(y/n)! You really thought that I wouldnât like the idea?â he pouts. âOf course I wanna share a bento with you! SillyâŠâ He slightly bends to your level to place a chaste peck on your forehead.
âAhâŠâ you freeze at his soft touch, your legs stiff in place as you stop walking. Kise, in response, moves his lips to your ears, and you slightly shiver at the unexpected intimacy⊠it was the closest heâs gotten to you ever since that public stunt when he kissed you in front of everyone the other day.
âHey, donât just stand there⊠you canât overreact like this over something couples do everyday.â You bit your lip in an attempt to stop your heart from sinking from disappointment, but in turning your face to him to spill an apology, your face ended up right in front of his. Your eyes widen but he only stares at you with such an intensity that makes you hold your breath in anticipation.
But he immediately draws away and stretches with a yawn. âLooks like those people left right after they thought they intruded on a private moment between us,â he says. âSheesh, people really do the most to be so nosy nowadays.â You wonder how he can be so casual about this all. Perhaps it was a mistake to be here like this when you were so in love with him, overthinking every single thing he did.
Why didnât he kiss you this time? Did he not find you the teensiest attractive enough to want to kiss you even without an audience nearby?
âCome on,â he mumbles, waving a hand through your face. âQuit making that face. I wonât be doing that to you without warning anytime soon. My bad, okay?â Kise sheepishly holds out a hand for a handshake to make peace, and you wordlessly take his hand. One day, youâll stop being his special someone to savor his warmthâŠ
No, you thought, youâre an idiot⊠heâs never considered you as someone special.
You debated in telling him that you were fine with him kissing you, but you hold your tongue, afraid that heâll realize your true feelings about him. Besides, were you really okay with him kissing you when he didnât reciprocate the same feelings?
âIt⊠wasnât like what you think,â you hesitate. âIt just caught me off guard.â
âWell,â he laughs. âThatâs a relief! By the wayâŠâ He stops to settle himself on the bench. âWhatâs exactly your lunch? Since you went through the effort to bring extras, I guess Iâll eat them.â
âI packed salmon from leftovers I had from home,â you reply, taking out your bento box and utensils. You decide to shake off your negative thoughts and shove them to the back of your mind. He makes a horrified face at the lunchbox. âKise, whatâs wrong?â
âDo you⊠happen to have anything else packed?â
âRice?â
âWell,â he coughs. âIâm not a fan of dishes with boned fish.â
âDidnât you say you hated unagi too?â Kise shyly averts his gaze before he reluctantly confirms it so. âTheyâre delicious though! Especially when theyâre grilled!â At first, he refused to answer, but the more you tried to poke and prod (literally too, at his ribs), he finally gave in.
âAlright, alright! But I swear, you better not tell anyone!⊠I choked on a fish bone one timeâŠâ
â⊠And?â
âAnd yeah.â
âYou choked on a bone once and you got scared out of eating fishââ
âShhhh!â he hushes, emphasizing his hiss with a finger to his lips. At this very moment, you saw a glimpse into who Kise really is, and you canât help but bust out a genuine, carefree laugh for the first time in front of him. In embarrassment, he bonks your head with his fist to get you to stop laughing, but it only makes you more conscious of how close he is to you.
But just as quickly and telepathically, Kise puts some distance between the two of you, sitting closer to the edge of the bench. He opts to hunch over casually and keenly watch you scarf down your meal in minutes without a care.
You wonder if you should feel guilty for enjoying this moment with Kise, even if he was only waiting with you out of obligation of being your âboyfriend,â but right now, you allowed yourself to indulge, letting your heart beat sporadically without guilt and fear for once. You continue to savor your lunch in silence, concentrating on munching around the fish bones, while Kise sat in contemplation all the while.
âââ
âYou should come watch our practice game today, (y/n).â
âEh?â
You tilt your head at him in confusion. Itâs been two weeks since you started this arrangement with him, but nothing extraordinary or groundbreaking happened between the two of you, much to your despondency. But you knew, you shouldnât be asking for too much when you already have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be close to him like this.
âThereâs going to be a lot of people coming,â he explains. âEven if itâs just a practice game⊠itâd be weird if you werenât there, because, you know, weâre dating.â
âI donât mind going,â you reply. âIt sounds fun.â
âYou know, youâve been agreeing to everything Iâve been suggesting the entire time,â he mumbles to himself, but he zips his mouth shut when he sees you instinctively moving closer to try to catch what he said. âUh, in any case⊠just stop by the gym whenever you can.â
So here you are a few hours later, being the first person to settle yourself on top of the 2nd floor of the gym. You rest your arms on the railway, fascinated by the KaijĆ basketball team and their skills. As they warm up on the courts, itâs the first time you see Kise truly at ease and happy with the people he cares about, and your heart pangs in jealousy seeing his genuine smile. You were pulled out of your thoughts when you realized the gym became completely crowded, the constant chattering announcing huge crowds along the entrance and the lucky watchers at the 2nd floor with you.
You didnât mind the onlookers when all you were focused on was Kise throughout the entire game with a smitten look, and you werenât surprised when his team easily won against the other local school.
âThatâs Kise isnât it?â You were about to turn to leave the higher floor to wait outside the gym when you heard his name. You stop to eavesdrop on the conversation next to you.
âYeah, Iâve been hearing about him way too much. Something about him dating now?â
âHeâs dating (l/n) right now, which is super weird because they never even talked⊠and all of the sudden, theyâre dating? I didnât think of him to be into short-term flings.â
âYou think heâs using (l/n) in some way? What an asshole.â
âYikes. Youâre probably not even that far off the bulls-eye. Heâs a really heartless guy, from what Iâve heard.â
âHey,â you interrupt, scaring the two girls out of their wits before they turn to you. âI donât think you should talk about Kise like that when all you know of him is through speculation.â
âUgh, here we go again with his fansâŠâ one of them groans, rolling her eyes. âLook, I get it, heâs good-looking and all, but I donât understand how you can defend him to death when he doesnât even spare a glance at you⊠ah⊠shit, youâre (l/n)?â A flash of hurt was visible on your face for a split second before you frowned. Their words unintentionally hit the nail in the coffin.
âWhether Iâm (l/n) or not doesnât really matter,â you say angrily. âGossiping about anyone like that isnât something you should make a habit out of.â
âJeez, letâs just leave,â the other girl whispers, dragging the first girl along.
You simply stand there watching them leave, but you canât shake off what they said. They were right⊠how could you be so whipped for him when you know heâll never see you the same way?
âOy!â
Kiseâs voice brings you back to your consciousness as he waves at you from the court. âYouâve been standing there for a while! Hurry up, or Iâll leave you behind, (y/n)-cchi!â
âComing!â You race from the 2nd floor to the ground level to catch up to him, your heart pounding all the while. Did he⊠did he justâŠ?
You shake your head before you reunite with him to walk home together. Stop it⊠donât overthink it.
âââ
Kise waits at his usual spot to wait for you before walking to school together. Itâs been three weeks since heâs approached you to âdate.â Heâs grown quite comfortable with this arrangement, being close to you and backing off when itâs convenient. After all, if you somehow showed a gruesome true self of yours, heâd be able to separate himself from you with no consequences⊠even if his heart would cry out not to.
âRyĆta!â There you are, running down the path towards him so cheerfully. Could you really be an awful person when you have such a pure smile like that?
âAh, (y/n)-cchi,â he says. âWe should hurry if we wanna be inside campus. Itâs a little chilly today, so being indoors sounds really nice right now.â He peers over to your face to see your nose slightly red from the cold, and he huffs out a chuckle, noting the warm puff of air escaping from his own lips.
âI guess itâs a little cold today,â you say, looking up at Kise with a slight childish wonder. âHey, thatâs a pretty cool cloud that you puffed out.â
âYou have some clouds around you too.â He gently smiles, and he notes that your eyes widen at the sight of him. âWha? Is my face that horrific, (y/n)-cchi?â You avert your gaze as your cheeks grow just as red as your nose.
âNah⊠i-itâs nothingâŠahââ He holds your cheeks to turn your face back to him, and he draws near with a serious gaze, bumping his forehead against yours.
âYouâre actually really coldâŠâ
âUh, um⊠I donât think Iâm c-cold anymoreââ you stammer, your eyes darting to look everywhere but his face, and Kiseâs eyes only scrutinize your behavior further.
âHm, if you say soâŠâ he mumbles. Your eyes flutter close at the anticipation, and he feels the pull towards your lips, closing his own lids shutâŠ
Wait, what was he thinking? He snaps his lids open and slightly draws himself away to look at you, still vulnerable with your closed eyes. Itâs only when he drops his hands from your cheeks and turns to walk ahead when you flutter your eyes open again. Donât let your feelings for (y/n) blind you into figuring out who they really are.
âCome on,â Kise calls out to you. âWe should get going⊠we donât wanna be late.â Besides, what if thereâs a possibility that you donât really like him at all?
âY-YeahâŠâ
The rest of the walk was in silence, with Kise slightly ahead of you. Perhaps if he turned around at least once to check on you, he wouldâve seen the consequences of his actions.
You were silently crying the entire walk.
âââ
Nothing seems to change much for the entire month. The way the two of you dance and sway around each other, while never being too close, never being too affectionate, never being completely honest. In this shared rose-tinted world, the frail glass that holds these moments together threatens to break with every fickle interaction. Every shared kiss constitutes another small crack to the rose-tinted crystal.
And both of you are content with just the way things are.
Or thatâs what you both mutter to yourselves like a mantra.
âRyĆta!â you call out to him. âDid you wait long?â
âNot really,â he says. âI just barely got out too⊠the teacher was really lenient on dismissal today, actually.â His heart swells at the sight of you as usual, but just as quickly, heâs always managed to quash his emotions in check.
For the first time, you initiate physical touch with him without hesitation, linking your hands with his and snuggling up to him. He flinches, not fast enough to process the sudden warmth of your body, and he immediately separates himself from you. Do you actually like him after all?⊠No, something is up, right?
âRyĆtaâŠ?â You flinch just as severely from the sudden reaction, and he turns to avoid looking at your face, knowing that his resolve would crumble right in front of you. Heâs a coward, and he fucking knows it.
âS-Sorry, (y/n)-cchi! I donât know what came over me like that, but you know you donât have to force yourself to do things like that, right? Thereâs no one here, so letâs just walk home together like we always do, yeah?â
He turns to already walk ahead, too afraid of hearing your response and hoping you would follow and catch up to him⊠like you always do.
You simply stood there for a few moments, anguish clear as the sky above you as you keep telling yourself to manage your own expectations. Still, your voice croaks out quietly to respond to him, even if you knew he wasnât going to hear it.
â⊠But I wanted to do these things with you, RyĆta.â
âââ
Itâs been several days since that incident.
It was very awkward for the most part, the walks to and from school silent and suffocating. Heâs not quite sure how to go about it while trying not to sound disingenuous about it. Nonetheless, even through his quiet apology, your face still lights up, and heâs confused about why you would ever be so forgiving of him.
Although today, lines have been crossed and this shared secretive world between the two of you have completely shattered to the point of no return.
It was quite a blur, an instinct that Kise has developed over the course of this relationship. Every time a group of students drew near, he was always ready to tug you close for a kiss until they left and carry on with their day. Today was usually no exception.
Another group of students was hanging around the corner, presumably spying on you two, and Kise did what heâs always done, grabbing your hand and embracing you for a kiss. Your eyes were blown open in surprise, but when you saw Kiseâs eyes elsewhere, something finally snapped inside.
You push him away at his chest.
âU-Unagi⊠unagiâŠâ Your voice trembles, and you use your arms to cover up the fresh tears. The code word sounds unbelievably stupid out of context, but at this moment, the word alone stabs Kise in his chest. âI-I⊠just stop⊠please.â Kise stares dumbly at you, processing the fact that you just used the agreed safe word against him.
â⊠(y/n)-cchi?â Kise asks with a confused smile. âYouâve never objected to kissing before⊠Iâve even told you what weâll be doing if you agreed to thisâŠ?â
âHowâŠâ you choke on tears. âH-How can you kiss me like that while your eyes are on someone elseâŠ?â
âI donât understandââ
âA-Am I that atrocious to kiss unless you stare at something else or thereâs some convenience?â
âI donât get it, (y/n)-cchi,â he frowns. âDid you expect more out of this or am I missing something?â
âThere was no reason to kiss me like that,â you softly wail. âEveryone already knows weâre a thing for⊠o-over a month now. Thereâs no reason to kiss me around people anymore when they wonât suspect us anywaysâŠâ
âSo you donât want me to kiss you anymore?â Kiseâs heart sinks in thinking about where this is going.
âNo!âyou donât⊠you donât fucking get it! I donât get itâ! Why are we doing this anymoreâI just, I see no reason to continue this anymore⊠you already shooed off your fans, right? Why havenât you ended this?!â
â(y/n)-cchiâIâŠâ He reaches out for you, but you immediately recoil.
âNoâplease⊠no more, I canât do this anymore!â you sniffle. âI canât fucking do this⊠Iâm done, Iâm tiredâplease⊠just look for another person to take my place⊠I⊠Iâm doneâI canât pretend with you anymore when I always expect more out of it like a love-stricken fool!â
âIâŠâ
âLookâsee,â you choke. âIâm just like everyone else whoâs in love with you, Iâm no different than everyone else R-RyĆta⊠so thatâs why, I-I⊠canât do this anymore!â
Kise stands there, staring at you running away from him. It was like everything had gone silent, save for the sound of his blood pounding in his ears.
âYou think heâs using (l/n) in some way? What an asshole.â
âYikes. Youâre probably not even that far off the bulls-eye. Heâs a really heartless guy, from what Iâve heard.â
He hated rumors, he really did⊠but for the first time, he feels like he deserves every word thrown at him around the hallways and classrooms. His memory flits to the time when he felt warm from seeing you standing up for him, even if he wasnât bothered by them before. Now, the warmth is replaced by agonizing regret and guilt wracking through his entire body. His hands feel cold with you gone from his side.
What has he done?
âââ
Heâs grown quiet for the next week.
Itâs been a week since you ran from him, and itâs been a week since he last talked to you.
Even his teammates were concerned about his reserved behavior, but just as always, heâs managed to shoot them a convincing smile. Kasamatsu was more persistent about this but eventually dropped it seeing Kiseâs refusal to talk about it.
That day when you pushed him away, he couldnât sleep, his thoughts keeping him awake the entire night. He resolved himself to talk to you the next day⊠but he changed his mind the last minute⊠and then he told himself heâd do it the next day⊠and then he changed his mind again.
He tells himself that itâs because you rightfully hate him, with the way youâd surround yourself with other crowds and groups to prevent him from walking up to you when you were alone. He tells himself that itâs because both you and him needed space to cool off and go back to the way you two were. He refuses to tell himself that itâs because heâs an honest-to-god coward.
He misses you. He misses you damn badly. Why the fuck did he go through such lengths instead of confessing to you straight up? He tells himself that he was being cautious. He tells himself that he doesnât want his heart to be broken again. He refuses to conclude that itâs because heâs a fucking coward.
âI donât know whatâs been on your mind, idiot,â Kasamatsu says. âBut you better solve this yourself quickly if youâre not opening up to me about this. We canât have your performance quality be dropping even in practice. Hurry up and fix this shit with (l/n)-san already.â
âH-Howâd you know?!â Kise raises his head from his desk in astonishment.
âTch, idiot,â he glowers, chopping Kiseâs head with a swift hand. âItâs too obvious from the way youâre moping around⊠from the way you two stuck together all this time, who wouldnât notice something happened from the way youâre at your desk watching (l/n)-san like that?â
âO-OwâŠâ Kise grumbles rubbing his head. Ironically, his captainâs hit cleared up his doubts and he took a deep breath before exhaling. âGot it, senpai.â
âYou better.â Kasamatsu goes back to talking to his classmates during break, and even despite not knowing the truth of the relationship, he manages to give solid advice as usual.
Tomorrow. Heâll find you tomorrow.
âââ
He doesnât know where else to find you alone other than the place heâs always waited for you before you two used to walk to school together. So he stands there, almost an hour earlier in case you had the idea to walk to school extremely early to avoid him at all costs.
He was right.
Here you are, shuffling your feet as you trudged yourself along the path and looking down at your feet. You even manage to walk past by him without noticing his presence.
Even if youâve grown to hate him, heâs willed himself to come completely clean about his feelings to you for once. But a part of him is thinking to change his mind again and just let you slip away from his fingers. Itâd spare the both of you the inevitable, right?
âR-RyĆtaâŠ?â
He was pulled from his thoughts, startled to see you staring at him from a short distance away. Apparently you did notice him after all.
â⊠(y/n)-cchiâŠâ He swallows his words, knowing full well that his stupid words might blow this up for him again, his words responsible for all the rumors at school, his words responsible for hurting you and will hurt you again.
He wordlessly walks up to you and holds your cheek, and waits. He waits for you to push him away again. He waits for you to say the code word to let him know that you donât want him near you again. The thought of you running away from him nearly brings him to tears, but he gulps his emotions down and stares at you calmly, with only his upturned brows hinting to his inner turmoil.
âRyĆââ
He swiftly brings his head down and kisses you. In feeling the warmth for the first time in a while, he greedily drinks from your lips, holding your temples more firmly as he searches for more, more, more.
You push him away.
Kise immediately lets go and stares at you like a lost child, unable to mask the devastation from the implications of your actions. But youâre still gripping his uniform tightly, almost as if you didnât want to let go.
âW-WhyâŠ?â you croak, biting your lips to stop any tears from breaking through. âThereâs no reason to kiss me. Donât you know that weâre done? Thereâs no one to watch us here, no reason for you to walk me to school anymore. You know that, RyĆta. After all, we havenât talked since a week ago, and you have the audacity to come here and kiss me like everything is okayââ
â⊠I want to kiss you, because thereâs no one around, because thereâs no other reason for me to.â
âWhyâŠ?â your voice softens to a whisper. âDonât you hate anyone who likes you in that way? I⊠I already told you that I see you in that light, like many of your fans do. Donât you hate me? Donât you hate me for using this arrangement to get closer to you? Donât you hate me for expecting something real out of this?â
âI already had an inkling of suspicion that you liked me, (y/n)-cchi,â Kise turns away to look at the bright morning sky. âI just didnât know if I was wrong or not.â
âThen⊠why did you ask me to do this whole thing with youâŠ?â
âBecause Iâm a coward,â he says, looking back to you. You were stunned into silence. For the first time, he finally admits whatâs been weighing on his mind for weeks out loud, and his eyes, while drenched in shame, were full of resoluteness. âI liked you, but I was too afraid for the day when you ended up being not like the person I ended up liking. I liked you, but I was afraid of a real relationship that would tie me down. I liked you, but I was afraid of making huge decisions that involved another person into my life. I didnât want to end the fake relationship because I was too fucking selfish⊠if I ended it, Iâd lose the only connection I had with you⊠Iâm sorry.â
Both of you went silent, bathed in the light of the rising sun. Kise drops to a squat to hide his face from you, and you knew he was trying to stop himself from tearing up. He knows how uncool he looks, but he had no right to cry when you were the one who got hurt the most.
âRyĆta, did you really find it difficult to kiss meâŠ? Just⊠be honest.â
âYes,â he looks up from his squat to stare at you with an intense look, even despite his puffy eyes. âEverytime I kissed you, I found it hard to control myself. I thought, what if you were using me to somehow get a kiss from me? or what if I couldnât stop myself from kissing you and I ended up taking things too far? Looking anywhere but you at least stopped me from getting too investedâŠâ
By now, both of you had turned completely red at his honesty, but he still found you frankly stunning even with your red, puffy eyes. âLook, (y/n)-cchi, donât you hate me? I used you. The rumors are rightâIâm a complete asshole. Just⊠I wonât blame you if you walk away right now.â
âYou do know that I used this opportunity to get closer to you, right?⊠I wasnât a saint about this either, so⊠Iâm sorry too.â Both of you go silent again, and you slowly drop yourself to his level in a squat of your own in front of him.
â⊠C-Can we⊠can we start over?â you whisper, your warm breath tickling his chilled nose.
â(y/n)-cchi, I donât think Iâm capable of continuing this arrangementâŠâ
âNo,â you huff, before you tentatively press a chaste kiss to his lips. âI mean⊠can we⊠start over, but this time, as a real couple? I⊠want this relationship to be substantial. I really do like you, RyĆta.â You murmur against his lips with your hands on top of your knees, waiting for him to rebuke you away with an easygoing comment or a plastered smile.
But he doesnât do any of that.
âI⊠guess we can try that,â Kise mumbles, gaze averted as his cheeks flame brighter than his nose and ears.
âCan you kiss me again?â you ask, your voice cracking at the end out of fear heâd turn down your request. Kise flicks his gaze back to you to see you equally red with a hesitant expression.
âCould you⊠close your eyes?â he asks with a frown.
âH-Huh?â
âY-You donât need to see me looking like a mess, I donât look charming right now.â
âI⊠guessâŠâ After a few moments of hesitation, you flutter your eyes shut, waiting apprehensively for his lips to descend onto yours again. Kise holds your cheeks and takes the time to admire your features for the first time, and his smile grows wider with every passing second.
âR-RyĆtaâŠ?â Afraid of the fact that he actually may not like kissing you after all, you worriedly open your eyes, only to be greeted by the most brilliant smile from Kise, his figure illuminated by the sunshine hitting the back of his head at the perfect angle.
â(y/n)-cchi,â he teases with a small pout. âDidnât I tell you to close your eyes?â
Who needs a rose-tinted lens when the sight before you is already so radiant to behold?
Hi! Might I request a scenario which takes place after the match with team Jabbawock, where Murasakibaraâs s/o is doting on him and his broken arm? Thanks for readibg this :3

âJeez! Youâre absolutely nuts! Have you ever considered that I mightâve gotten an actual heart attack in seeing you not only getting knocked back with a bleeding wound but also getting completely crushed by that very same basketball player?!â
â⊠Youâre mad, Chibi-chin.â He merely glances at you in the corner of his eye as he simply reaches for another snack amongst the many cradled in his arm sling. Both of you were walking around the city for sightseeing before returning to Akita tomorrow.
âNoâ! IâŠâ you hesitate, exhaling a long sigh before you cool your head from the pent-up adrenaline from the frustration, anger, and excitement in the momentous game prior. âI was just⊠really, really worried, okay?â
âDonât worry,â he drawls, his mouth filled with chips that Rikoâs father had splurged on earlier. âMy awrm is fine.â He casually moves around his wrapped arm to make his point, but you immediately pounce on him to stop him from possibly further straining it.
âStop, stop, stop, stop!â You held down his arm to his side with both your hands while giving him a glare. âYouâre gonna strain it even more! Just⊠take it easy! You already gave it your all in the game, right? SoâŠâ He merely frowns at you while chewing.
âI wazn gervin it my all, though,â he pouts, finishing his bite before he continues. âRight when I got fired up, that happened, remember?â He tried to move his slinged arm around to prove his point, but your glare stopped him from having any ideas.
âOkay, I see what you mean,â you say, giving him a consoling look but then let out a laugh when you see Murasakibara quite unbothered about his predicament despite what happened. âHow about to make it all up, Iâll treat you to any snacks youâre craving for today?â Immediately, he turns to you with a childish sparkle.
âReally?â Honestly, how could you say no to his puppy eyes?
âDuh,â you say, playfully rolling your eyes. âBesides, I thought you were really cool on the court. Think of it as a reward for finally giving all your effort into something, and⊠maybe as a future incentive to work hard? Uh⊠Atsushi?â Heâs already eyeing the takoyaki stand across the street, his mouth practically drooling at the vivid display of the finished product at the front of the cart. You must admit, the aroma of the dish was way too irresistible to ignore. But, upon looking at the menu pricings, you died a little on the inside. You always knew how pricey takoyaki was, but being Murasakibaraâs personal wallet for today, it killed you a little bit. Just a bit.
â⊠Um, Atsushi,â you cough. âThe prices are pretty daunting.â
âBut Chibi-chin, I want takoyaki.â
W-wellâŠâ In seeing your hesitation, Murasakibara stares at you before he reaches out to ruffle your hair, something that shocks you out of your inner dilemma.
âActually, I want konpeito, so letâs hurry Chibi-chin,â he says, reaching for your hand with his uninjured hand to tug you along. âThey might run out if we donât get going.â But before he walked away with your hand in his own, you immediately pulled back.
âW-Wait!â you protest. âIâm hungry, and umâtakoyaki could be a sufficient meal for the both of usââ In seeing how vehement you were, Murasakibara only gives a look that says that he saw through your bluff.
âIf it costs too much, itâs not a big deal,â he says with a languid shrug. You, on the other hand, begin to drag the giant to the takoyaki stand regardless with a gained odd sense of determination.
âItâs a special occasion! We always get konpeito anyways so⊠something different would be nice, donât you think?â you mumble. âBesides! I can always earn money back! And I did say that Iâll treat you to anything you crave today. Hurry up, or the line will get long!â
âââ
âYou take too long to eat these, Chibi-chin.â
âYouâyou literally shoved every single one of these in single bites!â
âBut they were good.â
âAtsushi, youâre not savoring these delectable flavors! The octopus bits and seasonings andââ
âIf youâre not gonna eat the rest, can I have them?â Heâs incredibly fixated on the takoyaki stick you were waving around in trying to scold him, and you immediately draw them away from his clutches before he had any funny ideas.
âNo way! Donât you need to save your stomach for other food weâll eat later?âActually, never mind, I wouldnât doubt that youâd have a bottomless stomach for these thingsâŠâ You turn your attention back to your last takoyaki and sigh in amusement. âBut I guess if you still want more Iâll let you have this last one. I canât really afford another serving of takoyaki, so this should sufficeâŠâ
You really shouldâve expected this from someone like Murasakibara, but he simply stood there with his mouth slightly open, with a finger pointing to it expectantly. He wanted you to feed it to him.
âOh come on,â you groan. âYouâre way too tall for me to reach up to your head! No way Iâm gonna do something this embarrassing in public!â
âBut you said youâll treat me,â he says with a slight whine.
âW-What does that have to do with this?!â
âFood always tastes better for sure when you feed it,â he insists. âYou said that youâll let me eat anything I crave. No other vendor can replicate flavors the same way you can.â
âThatâs not how it works!â
âBesides, canât do much with a broken arm, now can I, Chibi-chin?â He sends a smug look your way with a slight twinkle in his eyes, all the while slightly moving around said broken arm to sell his argument.
âI⊠wow,â you say, looking dumbstruck. âFine⊠but at least⊠bend down a bit so I can reach you halfway, and make it quick.â But of course Murasakibara descends in the slowest pace possible, never once letting your eye contact leave his gaze as he somehow makes eating a single takoyaki somewhat risque. You stand there holding your stick, frozen like a statue as your face heats up faster than a vendor grill.
âYup, that was really yummy~â he says, immediately standing up straight again and turning around to look for the next dish to feast on. Like he totally just didnât seduce you a second ago. âChibi-chin, we should just buy snacks from the store and go home. Walking around is tiring.â
âUhâŠâ you cough to recover yourself. âYeah, whatever you wanna eat, Atsushi.â
âAnd youâll feed me them too, right?â
âY-You! You totally did that on purpose, youââ
âHah? Dunno what youâre talking about, Chibi-chin.â He tugs your arm when he realized you stood there like a wide-eyed kid, completely red like a tomato. You wouldâve believed his words if it wasnât for that slight smirk he had when he turned back to look at your state. âNothing tastes as good as you though.â
âA-Atsushi!â
âHn, my muscles feel all sore from the game and walking around. Letâs hurry up so we can cuddle together.â
âOh no, you donât! Weâre not gonna pretend like you didnât just say what you said!⊠But, ahem, cuddling doesnât sound like a bad idea⊠Wait! We canât strain your arm! Iâll have to check it up once we get home!â
â⊠Do you really have to? Thatâs annoying⊠my armâs fine.â
âIf you let me check it, we can cuddle however much you want.â
âReally?â
âDuh, think of it as another reward for today!â

May I request for an HC or Fic, you can choose, of likeâŠAomineâs crush is like the MOST OBLIVIOUS person and at least the same year as sakurai. Daiki teases them to be flirty but they think he hates them so they go to basketball practice crying looking for ryo because aomine âhatesâ them but daiki just butts in and tells them in frustraition? If only youâre okay with it though hahahaha
@thirsthourdemon hi!! sorry it took so long woooo thank you for stopping by this blog and sorry it took so long D:
Oblivious!reader x Aomine Daiki
[Headcanons]
Note: as much as my head is FILLED with the urge to write a fic, my uni classes said âhell no.â
so you can be a bit dense and while Aomine finds it really really cute at firstâŠ
endearing and cute⊠only for the first few weeks heâs tried to make a somewhat attempt to hit on you ever since he saw you smiling at your class president in the hallways
but after that,,,, well,,,,,,,,
you were very close friends with Sakurai, his mild, but responsible personality meshing perfectly well with your slightly airheaded personality
what does that mean? well, you would sit on the benches to watch Sakurai practice while you were either A.) doing your homework and being absolutely oblivious to the curious (or less than decent) stares or B.) eating Sakuraiâs extra bentos he would sometimes pack that day because you would sometimes forget your own
this doesnât bode well for Aomine, especially since he ditches practice 24/7 and every time he tries to look for you after school, he could never find you for some reason
until he showed up to practice that one time to steal an octo-dog from Sakuraiâs bento when he saw you talking with the coach, trying to earnestly learn more about the sport
ohohohoho, his smirk grew and heâs having the wildest ideas in trying to get your attention
*proceeds to rip off the entire backboard and glances to your figure to see you wide-eyed*
*also waits outside the gym with a confused Momoi until everyone except you and Sakurai leave*
Aomine also tells Momoi to scram, also subtly glares at Sakurai
both leave but both give each other the look before they both hide behind the bushes to eavesdrop
there was no way in hell Sakurai would leave you alone to Aomine, even if he was someone who wasnât confrontational
Momoi, on the other hand, even if she was pissed he name-called her, didnât trust him to be on his own devices, especially with someone as sweet as you
âSo youâre the one Wakamatsu has been ranting about,â you said tilting your head up as you took in Aomineâs appearances for the first time
âHuh? Yeah I guess,â he flippantly grumbled, scratching the back of his head as he averted his gaze away
you gasped, bringing Aomineâs (and the eavesdroppersâ) attention back to you
âWhaâŠ? Whereâs Ryo?â
ââŠâ - everyone right now
as you cluelessly look around your surroundings, Aomine steps forward to clasp your wrist and slightly tug you towards him to get your attention back on him
âTch, forget about him for a second.â Aomine makes a harsh frown before remembering that he was supposed to make a good impression
your eyes curiously dropped to his hand on your wrist
âAomine-san⊠Is there something wrong with my wrist?â
âHuh?? No, obviously not you idiâ(y/n)ââ he coughs out in an attempt to cover up his mishap but you donât seem to notice
âWahhhh, I have to look for Ryo!â you said, your brows furrowing. âHeâs probably waiting for me right now! Ah, Iâll see you later, Aomine-san!â
and you dash from Aomine, breaking free from his loose clutch on you
Aomine just stands there dumbly, watching you until you leave his sight before he kicks the dirt in irritation
meanwhile, Sakurai leaves the bushes to chase after you and Momoi huffs as she stomps to him, pushing Aomine from behind
âOwâwhat the hell?â
âMouâI canât believe it! You canât just treat everyone like that!â
âHah? You never nagged me about this before. Besides, donât you people like that kinda stuff?â
âUgh, Aho-mine! You lack delicacy! You have to be romantic and sweet if you like the personâ!â
âWho says I like (y/n)?â
âIt was as clear as day, stupid!â
meanwhileâŠ
Sakurai is gently scolding you for getting yourself into a âpossibly scaryâ situation although you donât really get it
âWhatâs scary about Aomine?â
âE-e-eh?? Lots, (f/n)!! Did you not see him beat up Wakamatsu-san and rip off the hoop??â
âWell, I dunno, RyoâŠâ you started. âHe seems out there, but I think heâs a nice guy.â
âThatâs what you say to every person you meet.â
âHmpf! Not everyone,â you pouted
âJust⊠just be careful, okay?⊠I worry for youâŠâ
âŠ
for the two weeks, it was a pattern of Aomine waiting for you outside the gym after every practice, while Momoi and Sakurai begrudgingly hiding to eavesdrop, ready to intervene if needed
that said, both are inwardly cringing at Aomineâs attempts at âflirtingâ while everything just seems to fly over your head as you blink and politely smile
âYouâre not half-bad looking, yâknow?â
âSo whoâs the other âhalf-badâ?â
âWhat?â
âWhat?â
You would tilt your head innocently at a flustered but frustrated Aomine
if you listen hard enough, you could hear a loud worried sigh and an âAhomine!â from a distance
or another day:
âSo thereâs a movie at 5 tomorrow, and I got an extra ticket. Wanna go?â
âDonât you have Momoi?â
âShe has practice.â
âDonât you have practice, too?â
ââŠ.â
or another day:
he decided to take Momoiâs advice in being more âforwardâ but showing enough romantic gestures to get the point across⊠but the only thing he could settle on without getting too sappy was the kabedon
âA-Aomine-san! Whatâs wrong? Can you stand properly? Do you need to go to theââ
âShut up already, (y/n),â he drawled, before he tried to lean in closer to your faceâŠ
but then you slapped your hand to his forehead and leaned even closer to his face to try to feel his temperature
oh, but your lipsâtoo closeâtoo closeâhelpâ
âOh no! You are burning up!â
Aomine was ready to faint right there and then
âŠ
âYou need to tell her and be honest, Dai-chan!â
âShut up, Satsuki. Nonâya business.â
âIt is, Aho-mine!â she huffed. â(y/n)-chan is my friend too!â
he groans as he sits up from his napping position at the rooftop before he stretches his limbs and walks to the gym
âŠ
âAomine-san! Youâre coming to practice today?â you turned to the blue-haired ace at the doorway in surprise
âNope, Iâm sleeping.â
âHuh?â
he languidly walks to your side to steal your onigiri
âWhaâ?â
âThanks for the food, shortie.â
âAh?â
and he gives your head a few firm taps before he leaves the gym before a Momoi unceremoniously bursts into the room, wheezing
âIs Dai-chan here?âŠâ
you shake your head ânoâ in response, still in a stupor at processing what just happened, and Momoi just dashes back outside to track him down
âŠ
âA-Aomine-san!â your fingers barely grazed the pencil as he held it up way above his own head. âCould you please⊠give that back?â
âYou can get it back if you manage to get it,â he said, with a mischievous smirk on his face
âWh-why meee?â you whined, as your breath shortens out of exertion
âYouâre the only one who could cure my boredom.â
âAho-mine! Give it back to (y/n)-chan!â
âTch, fineâŠâ
âŠ
yeah, heâs just been calling you various names, stealing things and taunting you to get it back by running FULL SPEED IN THE HALLWAYS, knowing FULL WELL YOU COULD NEVER CATCH UP
âDai-chan, can you stop messing with (y/n)-chan? Youâre so childish, sheesh!â
âDidnât you say to be honest? Theyâre short, right? And Iâm just playing with (y/n). You know that.â
Momoi wants to kill him right there and then
âUgh! I swear, youâre so dumb! We might know you donât mean these things, but does (y/n)-chan know? Besides, youâre not being honest with your feelings to them at all! Stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid!â
âŠ
âRyo,â you sniffled to him one day. âDo you think Aomine hates me?â
âW-well, as much as I stay away from him⊠If he hated anyone he would make sure they know itâŠâ
âI knew it! Was it something I said?â you gasped. âMaybe Iâm the reason why he never went to practice. Maybe my presence annoys himââ
and youâre ready to break down in the middle of the hallways at the possibility of having someone hate you because of your obliviousness to your own insensitivity
âN-no! (f/n)-san, itâs not that!â Sakurai uncharacteristically firmly says. âWhy donât you talk to him to sort it out?⊠Iâll walk you to him butâŠâ
despite your reluctance, you figured it was the best course of action, and you were determined to at least apologize to him
well, you were until you turned around and walked smack dab into the touou ace
as you rub your nose to ease the pain and look up to the person, ready to apologize, you freeze
uh oh, did he hear the entire thing?
you mad dashed to the opposite direction but he immediately chases after you, leaving a concerned Sakurai in the dust
of course, you were no match for his long legs his agility and you were soon tackled by him when you were both outside the classroom buildings
as he tackled you, he cradled you into his arms as he twisted his body to take the brunt of the fall
âAh! Iâm so sorry, Iâll get off right noââ
he fully locked his lips onto yours
âShut up, already.â he frowns before continuing, âI never hated you, stupid.â
âYou⊠donât?â
âTch,â he clicks his tongue in irritation but he still pulled your cheek affectionately
âO-ow! Why donât you go⊠to practice then?â
in response, he sighs and says, âitâs a long story, but Iâll tell you at Maji Burger⊠howâs that sound?â
âO-oh! I didnât bring money today!â
âI meant as a date. You, me. Between us. As a romantic thing.â
âR-r-romantic!?â
âDo I have to spell it out?â he sighs loudly. âI like you, shortie.â

Himuro felt helpless.
The Winter Cup that year when Seirin rightfully won was over months ago, but even still, there is still a part of him that gnaws at him from the inside of his consciousness. Ever since he failed to stop Haizaki from making unwanted advances on his mentor.
No matter how much Alex assured him that it wasnât a big deal, no matter how easily she shrugged the incident off, there is still a festering guilt that eats him away at how useless he was in protecting the people he cared about. He couldnât even protect Kagami as an âelder brother,â and he couldnât even protect Alex as a âmaleâ against another male. Still, no matter how much he chastises himself for having such immature thoughts, theyâve continued to overstay their welcome. What kind of traits does an âelder brotherâ or a capable âmaleâ even entail?
Someone who wouldnât be beaten and swatted like a flyâŠ
Someone who wouldnât just sit idly by when someone is being wrongedâŠ
Someone who wouldnât hesitate to fight back to protect someone, even despite the consequencesâŠ
But if thatâs the case⊠thatâs just the definition of a person with human decency, isnât it? Yes, perhaps that is why he still mulls over the encounter to this day. First he split off his brotherhood with Kagami over a one-track goal of an equal rivalry, and then he talked down to his mentor before his Winter Cup game that evening⊠In the end, he was absolutely pathetic, losing to Kagamiâs inborn talent and getting beat down while watching his teacher getting harassed and choked. He easily accepted the fact that Kagami surpassed him with his basketball⊠The latter? Not so much.
He hasnât really talked about his inner turmoil with anyone. Atsushi is someone who would not care too much about the complex emotions that heâs currently harboring, much less help deal with them. His other teammates are graduating and too occupied with final exams. He could speak with Alex, but by now, sheâs moved back to America, and a part of him doesnât want to call her out of his self-consciousness and humiliation. You?⊠He could confide his troubles with you⊠but a part of him whispers that youâd think less of him if you knew how incapable he really was.
After all, if he couldnât even protect you as your boyfriend⊠no, heâd rather not go too far into that thought.
He smiles at the thought of you openly complimenting everything of him every time he subconsciously downplays himself, whether it was his basketball skills or his looks or even his habits. He always thought about how cute you were when you always made exaggerated hand movements to express your sincerity when you shower him with compliments, even if he always told you that you never had to go that far in saying such things. (You always insisted that theyâre true and he was the best boyfriend anyone could ask for anyways.)
To someone like Himuro who had always hid their inferiority complex and other entangling insecurities behind a mask of a genial smile, your words always reassured him that he wasnât treating you horribly or neglecting you or just being downright selfish. Just like what happened with Kagami. Just like what happened with Alex. He just hopes he doesnât fuck this up somehow with you too.
He had always apologized for how he couldnât spend as much time with you as he wanted to; basketball practice doesnât spare anyone, after all. Still, you would smack his arm and push him to the gym as you scolded him to focus on what he loved to do best. Ah, he really didnât deserve you⊠how you were so understanding he would never know.
But dusk fell at another early-February weekday; it was still quite chilly, cold enough to see his own puffs of warm exhales. His hands are cold, but the rest of his body burns from running laps and repeating shooting drills moments earlier. His ears grow hotter still when he remembers that you two had planned a simple outing near the coffee shop around the corner.
âAtsushi!â Himuro turns back to call out to the center player. âI need to be going now.â
âHmph,â Murasakibara huffs in reply. âI was gonna ask you to take me to that new booth to try out new samples.â
âSorry, sorry,â he laughs, noting the faint mist escaping his lips. âIâll take you there next time, Atsushi. I have a date planned with (y/n)-san right now.â
âTch, Iâm leaving before you get too mushy on me. Buh-bye~â the giant drawls, casually strolling down the opposite path. Himuro manages to hold back a mild snort before he makes his way to head to the shop you two agreed to meet up at. Propping up his phone to look for your name to send a text, his eyes widen as he registers your name popping up on his screen as an incoming call. What a coincidence. You mustâve been anticipating this too. He smiles as he envisioned your anticipation at the table before he picks up on your call.
âTatsuya?âŠâ your voice rang.
â(y/n)-san,â he teased. âI didnât think of you as an impatient person. Canât wait to see me?â
âYeah,â you said, but something about your voice was overly cheerful.
âDonât worry,â Himuro hummed. âIâll be there really soon. Give me 5 minutes.â He assumed it was just your excitement taking over that made you sound different than usual. He was about to hang up before you spoke again.
âA-Anywho!â you say. âHow was practice, Tatsuya?â
âHmm, the same it has always been,â he replies. âJust drills and laps before running a few practice games. Why do you ask?â
âNo reason! C-Canât I check up on you sometimes?â
âOf course you can, (y/n)-san,â he reassures you. There was a silence from your end, but he can hear how your breaths quickened over the line. He then registered some footsteps and maneuvers on the concrete and furrowed his brows in mild confusion. â⊠Hey, is there something wrong?â
âA-Ah yes! Iâm at the laundromat right a-around the corner!â Your voice slightly peaks at the end. âY-Yeah, yeah! I canât wait to⊠s-see you soon! Uh, huh, m-mhm! Youâre near right now, right? Yeah! You-youâre almost there!âŠâ By now, your voice has taken on an almost hysterical tone.
â(y/n)?⊠(y/n)!â he half-shouts into his phone. â(y/n)! Can you still hear me! Where are you?!⊠Laundromat, right?â He breaks into a brisk run, ignoring the disapproving stares of other pedestrians on the sidewalk.
âI-I-Iâm near the alley adjacent to the laundromat!⊠Yeah! C-Canât wait to see you! O-Oh, donât forget⊠um, to bring your wallet. S-Silly, you always forget to bring money, so⊠s-soâŠâ You completely break your facade with a faint voice crack and a sniffle at the end. âPlease⊠please hurryâŠâ
Himuro pushes himself to a full sprint, completely disregarding etiquette as he pushes a few people to the side. His cold hands struggle to cease from shaking as he clutches his phone harder, as if he was holding onto you for dear life. Something terrible might happen to you, and if something happened to you on his watchâŠ
Please, please, please, fucking god, pleaseâplease make it on timeâ
He grits his teeth and screams at his legs to move faster when he hears a stifled sob and a cry from your end.
âA-ah pleaseâŠâ you whisper. âTheyâre comingâtheyâre, Himuro, I donât know where to ruââ All he heard after was a terrified scream before the line cut off.
Fuck, hurry up, hurry the fuck upâ
âââ
Your phone was completely shattered on the floor, and you swore you had a few broken shards embedded in your skin somewhere from the harsh impact. That didnât matter though. Not when there were two men grabbing you and trying to muffle your cries for help.
You try to use your elbow to hit their weakest parts, their joints, to loosen their grip. It worked, but as soon as you took a few steps, the other just tackled you to the floor to completely immobilize you.
You screamed, you kicked, you slapped, you elbowed, you punched, you flailed, but nothing seemed effective against two bodies, twice the size and twice the strength of your own.
You pitifully wail as a last desperate attempt, but in the quiet corner of the neighborhood, nobody seems to heed your cries for help. The sun had completely set by now, the year still experiencing the darkness of a winter night; by now, most are already at home relaxing. Their weight on your body was suffocating and you donât know whether the pain was from the rough concrete, the shards, their weight, or all of the above.
You register them heaving you up with a firm hold on you still and shoving you to walk to the nearest vehicle they owned, and your legs are absolutely trembling from the shallow wounds you accumulated from the roughing and from the fear of the uncertainty of what would happen to you.
âââ
When Himuro lays eyes on your roughed-up state and the two men restraining you, all his fury and guilt and fear comes rushing back from his encounter with Haizaki.
He is not a rational man right now. He is not thinking of being the âbigger person.â He is not thinking about being a model athlete nor proper sportsmanship nor disqualification. There are no such thoughts of consequences, not when your life is being jeopardized.
He does not fucking care that he looks like the aggressor when he throws a left hook at the first man. He does not fucking care that the second man looks like his shoulder got dislocated. For once, he does not fucking care how his violent actions might cost him his prospective basketball career.
When he pulls your trembling body into his arms and feels how warm you are against his body in the night chills of an early-February weekday, he breathes out a long cloud of air, slowly calming himself as he hugs you more firmly against his side and pulls up to dial the local police.
He feels a slight sense of relief when he can feel you instinctively snuggling into his side for solace.
âââ
The local officers immediately got the gist once they saw the scene of two sprawled men, a terrified you, and a protective Himuro. After checking the nearby CTE cameras, their suspicions were confirmed. They still ask Himuro a few basic questions before they haul them off to the station; Himuro mostly answers for you.
Once the quiet fills the neighborhood again, you release a shuddering breath; Himuro knows because he can see your own mist from the corner of his eye. Still, you havenât spoken a word since then.
â(y/n)âŠâ he murmurs, bending down to your level to survey the scratches and bruises on your body before he hesitantly looks at your eyes. âWell⊠yell, scream, say somethingâanything⊠please.â
â⊠Can you⊠hug me again?â
â⊠Of course.â
And you both embrace tightly, Himuro tucking your head into his chest as you nuzzle as much as you could into his body.
â⊠Did they do anything to you?â
âThey roughed me up and all, but⊠thank god you cameâŠâ
âThey still put their hands on youâI couldnât protect youââ
â⊠Why do you look so much more distraught than me, Tatsuya?â
âBecause, IâI canât do anything for the people I love and care about, and I⊠never mind, do you⊠want me to walk you home?â
âWait, TatsuyaâŠâ you whispered. âLetâs talk for a bit, please talk to me.â
âOur dateââ
âWhich we can always reschedule,â you said, bringing Himuroâs head down to nuzzle against your shoulders.
âIf I was there fasterâif I was there, this wouldnât haveâŠâ
âBecause you were there,â you corrected him. âI am able to experience another day, another tomorrow⊠especially by your side, where Iâm happiest.â
âYou mustâve been so scaredâdamn it, Iââ
âYeah⊠Iâm still shaken up from that, to be honest,â you sighed. âIâm⊠just a bit paranoid about being alone in the dark now, but you saved me from the worst case scenarioâTatsuya, whatâs wrong?! Are you cryingâ?â
âSorry, sorry,â he said, quickly separating from you to rub his stray tears away before attempting to smile. âI should be the one comforting you, not the other way around. Please donât mind me.â
âOh silly,â you mused. âIâm dating you too. I want to be able to protect and care for you in my own way, too.â
âItâs getting dark, though. We should really start walking.â
âAnd we can talk while we do. I demand you to snuggle while we walk, too.â
âHaha⊠how could I ever say no to you, (y/n)?â He feels that gnawing sense of guilt and patheticness rearing up its head again, but when he looks at your earnest eyes even despite what transpired a few moments ago, the fact that you were safe and in his arms was more than enough to quell those feelings away.
In the lulls of a chilly early-February night, Himuro wraps a comforting arm over your figure as he draws a shuddering breath before he hesitantly begins. You look up at his face expectantly to show that you were giving him undivided attention as encouragement.
âIt was during the Winter Cup a few months agoâŠâ
âââ
End Note: being stalked by a dude in a CAR was NOT FUN. IT WAS NOT A FUN TIME !! đ unlike this y/n here, I had no one to âcallâ and pretend that I was meeting up with them because my walk route home comprised of only houses and streets, so that was something else OOF I was thinking of the worst case scenarios at the time;;;
Hiii, itâs me againđâ€ïž congrats on your growing audience đ„ł can you write something about meeting Imayoshiâs little sister for the first time?
HI AGAIN LOL iâd be happy to do another request â„ïž thank you for supporting me! đ„ș
[Headcanons]
you would probably never meet his family unless Imayoshi is 100% sure that the relationship will last for a long time
but once youâre at that stageâŠ
when you first brought up about wanting to meet his family out of curiosity, Imayoshi was uncharacteristically hesitant⊠and somewhat bashful (if you REALLY squint though, you have to look really hard to see that)
but how can he say no to you when you keep bothering him with your puppy eyes?
youâre way too similar to his little sister and it kind of irks him
when you and the little Imayoshi meet, you could barely contain the squeals from how cute she was⊠and she was looking up at you with the biggest saucers
Imayoshi is standing off to the side scratching his head as he gently reprimands his sister to greet you properly
you noticed that his tone of voice is a lot more genuine, softer, and even more polite when he talks to his sister, and you were ready to make fun of him once the entire visit is over
your schemes melt away in your head when you hear her shyly talk in her Kansai accent
you.exe has stopped functioning
Imayoshi takes note of it to make fun of you later after this
but then heâs kind of wary when you shoot him an equally scheming stare (he wonât show it though)
Imayoshi is extremely protective of her, you noticed, even if heâs always strict on her mannerisms and proper behavior
heâll never say it, but itâs just the way he hovers around her or is always scanning the area around once in a while
this was so cute and youâre literally ready to bust into laughs in how endearing this entire thing was
visits to his house become more frequent after
you always see Imayoshi tutor her on Math subjects (thatâs what heâs strongest in academically, this is canon) and help her out on homework
youâre more of the person she goes to for life advice or to have you tell her some stories or some interesting âgossipâ in your year
she also makes you follow along with her cute shenanigans like practicing as the opposite lead role for her to practice her own roles for school plays or asks some questions like:
âIâm just asking for a friend, but what if this boy was constantly looking at youâŠâ
she wonât ask these questions if Imayoshi was around, not ever
sheâd be kind of nosy and would try to prod into your relationship with Imayoshi because sheâs so curious about what you see in her stiffy older brother đ
his dad (parents) is canonically revealed to have introduced Imayoshi to basketball, so I feel like his little sister knows a good amount in how to play decently, especially when Imayoshi always forces her to play so he can test out his new strats
she probably isnât that enthusiastic in basketball because of her brother, but sheâs still very athletic nonetheless
sheâll outspeed you, period
sheâll give you a run for your money, especially when she grows more comfortable around you enough to show her teasing side (sounds familiar, right?) and takes your things and runs off
she teases out of affection while Imayoshi teases to annoy people out of satisfaction
you are then reminded that youâre technically dealing with TWO imayoshis from now on
