Kageyama x Ushijima x Reader
WC: 4.2k Warning level: Suggestive, not explicit
Summary: You celebrated your birthday with your best friends the night before, but something happened that might change the course of your friendship for good.
A/N: Yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve written anything… I’m still working on my writer’s block and just finding time in general. I had a lot of fun with this one so I hope you enjoy reading it <3
Ushijima
Something was different. Ushijima could feel it.
He could feel it in the way his alarm woke him up in the morning, though he’d always woken up at six fifteen. He could feel it in the way he sat on the edge of his bed, rubbing his eyes until he felt awake enough to walk to the bathroom. He felt it in the way his favorite socks rolled onto his feet, the way his shoes felt hitting the asphalt on the way to the gym. He could feel it in the way he was walking, the way each foot hit the ground.
It was all the same, but at the same time, it felt so different.
Though he’d thought about it this morning, Ushijima never missed a day of working out, not even during off season. He woke up everyday at exactly six fifteen in the morning and arrived at the gym no later than seven o’clock. Any later and the gym would be packed with loud, obnoxious gym rats who always felt the need to start a conversation with him. He hated having to talk to them. He didn’t like conversations with random people generally, but when he was there to work out, he just wanted to work out and go back home.
As his fingers gripped the cold bar of the handle to the entrance of the gym, he checked the time. Seven o’clock on the dot. Everything was exactly as it should be, exactly as it had always been.
And yet, it felt so different.
Images from the night before kept creeping into his mind as they had been all morning. Perhaps that was what made the day feel off. Perhaps the physical memories of fingertips tracing along his skin was what made everything feel so different.
He wasn’t at all a heavy drinker. In fact, he didn’t really drink much in general, but last night was a special occasion. A very special occasion. So special that it was still affecting him the next day. Parts of the night seemed almost like a blur, almost like they didn’t happen and he began to think that he might have imagined it.
He looked down at his legs as he sat on the bench of his favorite machine. He was wearing shorts. He always wore shorts when he worked out. This time though, as he stared at the black nylon, he knew that under those shorts was all the proof he needed that he hadn’t imagined last night. He noticed it when he changed into his pajamas the night before. A small, purple mark, formed by lips he’d never felt on that part of him before, the reminder that last night most definitely happened.
With a heavy sigh, he shook his head and added weights to the bar before lying down to begin his first set.
Kageyama
Kageyama blushed at the thought of your underwear as he looked down at his phone. He remembered exactly how it looked as it slowly slipped down your legs, the light purple lace raising goosebumps on your skin before it was tossed to the floor. A quiet chill ran over his body which forced his eyes closed as he took a deep breath.
“Tobio Kageyama!” A loud voice called through the cafe.
Kageyama stepped over to the counter quickly and grabbed his carrot, apple, and celery juice before moving to an empty seat facing the window. Since he’d woken up, his thoughts hadn’t moved far from what took place last night.
It was your birthday yesterday and just like the previous three years, you celebrated it with Kageyama and Ushijima, your two closest friends. It was a regular night, a very normal night for the three of you, but at some point, things shifted and Kageyama couldn’t seem to understand when that happened.
He would be lying if he didn’t admit that he had always sort of had a thing for you. It was how you had initially met, afterall. And after a slightly botched first date, you both remained friends. Ushijima joined in a few weeks later and soon your little pack was complete.
Things would most certainly be different now. Something happened last night that ensured that things could never really go back to how they were before, but Kageyama wasn’t sure that he wanted them to.
Kageyama looked at himself through the reflection in the window. He didn’t look as tired as he felt. He felt drained, but his reflection showed a completely different feeling. He looked awake, bright, he even had a slight blush to his cheeks which only deepened as his mind, once again, drifted to the night before.
Was this the face that Ushijima was looking at? Were these the eyes that held his gaze so intensely before he leaned in closer? Kageyama had never seen that look in Ushijima’s eyes. In all the practices, all the games, all the nights out having fun, he’d never seen the intensity he had the night before and it was all Kageyama could think about.
You
Five hours and twenty-nine minutes. That’s how long it had been since you closed your apartment door after Ushijima and Kageyama left the night before. And for all five hours and twenty-nine minutes, you’d thought of nothing but them.
It wasn’t like you were short on things to be doing. The state of your apartment was quite disgusting and cleaning it had certainly taken up a lot of time, but it wasn’t doing anything as far as a mental distraction and that was what you desperately needed.
You were very familiar with Ushijima’s strict schedule and knew that he would be awake early regardless of the fact that he left your apartment at two o’clock in the morning. Why couldn’t he have just stayed? The thought of both of these men being the first thing you woke up to, your body sandwiched between theirs, Kageyama’s light fingertips tracing circles over your hip while warm air from Ushijima’s quiet breathing brushed over your neck. It was enough to keep you in bed just to dream about.
But they didn’t stay the night.
They both left early, possibly confused and needing time away. You certainly did. That is, until the feeling of your empty bed provided a perfect storm for your mind to race until the only thing you could think about was them being next to you.
It was a difficult situation because while you wanted to repeat last night, again and again, and you were fairly certain they did too, you really just missed your friends. Because who else did you tell your most amazing news to than your best friends? It became complicated when that amazing news was about your best friends. This was what led you to lie in your bed until an appropriate time to send an unrelated message to open up the floor for conversation. A tactic that usually worked any time two of you would fight.
Ushijima
The loud buzz of his phone had Ushijima setting his weights down again to check his messages.
Dinner. With you and Kageyama.
Ushijima stared down at the message. Everyone had read it, based on the little notification at the bottom, everyone saw it, but no one said anything. Did that mean Kageyama didn’t want to see them? What if it was something Ushijima did? Maybe he took things too far and now Kageyama wasn’t going to talk to him anymore and he would lose his best friends.
Were they still only friends at this point?
Even if they never did anything like that again, they would still need to talk about it, right? Was Ushijima the only one that felt something worth talking about?
He set his phone down on the bench next to him and let out a heavy sigh, brushing his hands over his face. His hands were rough, and big and weren’t really gentle. Not like yours or Kageyama’s. Kageyama didn’t have small hands, but they felt more delicate than Ushijima’s. Softer even.
Ushijima’s mind filled with images of the night before. The way Kageyama’s hands delicately ran along your hip, the way they slowly slipped your t-shirt from your body, the way they tangled in your hair as he kissed you. His movements were always so tender, so gentle with the way he touched you.
Whatsmore, when Kageyama noticed him watching, he smiled lightly before moving those gentle fingers to Ushijima’s jaw, then neck, then chest. He’d never been touched so softly before. He had certainly had girlfriends but none of them brushed their fingertips along his skin in the way Kageyama did. Light, skimming grazes across his jaw had Ushijima swallowing hard. Call it a moment of weakness or whatever it was, but it took no thought for him to reach forward, grip the back of Kageyama’s neck and roughly push his lips to his. He knew it was rough. He was always too rough. But the way those gentle fingers moved from his cheek to his waist, he might have gotten even rougher.
Ushijima cringed as he gripped at the front of his hair before picking his towel up from next to him on the bench and twisting it in his hands. Maybe he had been too rough, too forward, and now Kageyama didn’t want anything to do with him. Would this ruin their friendship? What if it affected their teamwork? Would he really never speak to him again over a kiss? It was a lot more than a kiss, but he didn’t even want to think about it.
His attention was pulled as his phone vibrated on the bench next to him and he looked down to see what it was. A message in the group chat. Ushijima’s eyes quickly ran over the text and he smiled.
Kageyama
“Shit. Fuck. Shit.” Kageyama dropped his phone to the table and rubbed his forehead. The lady at the table next to him was with her young son and Kageyama quickly went red. “Sorry.”
It wasn’t like he didn’t want to meet you and Ushijima, but he was sure he needed more time to think about how he was feeling. The way you casually asked made it seem like last night was nothing to you. And then Ushijima didn’t even respond. Maybe he didn’t want to see him. Maybe last night only felt like something to Kageyama.
Kageyama always had a little something for you, but he never knew how to take it further and if he was being honest, he really did enjoy your friendship. But after last night, things wouldn’t be that easy to ignore anymore, not with you but especially not with Ushijima.
Kageyama was really taken by surprise when Ushijima kissed him. It wasn’t like they weren’t headed in that direction, the three of them were all in your bed, but it still took him by surprise. Perhaps the surprise was less to do with the fact that Ushijima did it and more to do with the fact that Kageyama liked it as much as he did.
They were teammates and had been friends for some time, but this was different. This wasn’t just teammates being teammates or friends being friends, this was so much more. Kageyama felt so much more than that. The way Ushijima grabbed Kageyama from on top of you and pulled him into his arms before crashing their lips together had Kageyama’s heart racing in the little cafe he was sitting in.
Thoughts of Ushijima possibly regretting what he did flooded Kageyama’s mind and he sat up quickly as he thought about it. What if Ushijima didn’t want to take things that far? It would be strange, but Ushijima was a strange guy. Kageyama always found him slightly difficult to read because his expressions were very baseline, never getting too excited in either direction. It was also entirely possible that Ushijima had been hiding feelings he might have had for Kageyama this whole time.
“Don’t be stupid.” Kageyama bit his lip, trying to hide the smile that was forming on his face. It wasn’t worth thinking about because whether Ushijima had feelings for Kageyama all along or not didn’t matter. What mattered was now and whether those feelings Ushijima had for Kageyama, matched Kageyama’s feelings for Ushijima.
You
It had been ten minutes since you moved from your spot in the shower. You were doing a great job being productive, but the peaceful, reflective place in the shower took that away immediately. You couldn’t get your head on straight. No matter what you did, the image of Kageyama tightly gripping the waistband of Ushijima’s jeans was burned onto the backs of your eyelids.
You were really hoping they didn’t notice how much you were staring, but even in the moment, it was impossible not to. They were beautiful. You knew them completely, totally, inside and out. You could predict what they would say, when they would say it, even how they would say it. Yet this was a side of them you had never seen before. And if you were being honest, you desperately wanted to see it again.
“God why do you have to be so creepy when you stare?” You covered your face as your cheeks began heating at the memory.
The night had definitely taken a turn from where you expected it to go. You knew you would be drinking, but you’d definitely been drunk with them before. Where exactly the night changed was difficult to figure out. After stumbling into your apartment with Kageyama and Ushijima, it didn’t take long for things to heat up.
The specifics were hazy, not that you were so drunk because neither one of you were all that far gone, but the haziness came from confusion. You were confused as to how it all started and you were so confused as to how it never happened before. One moment you were sitting on your couch, laughing with the guys, the next your lips were on Kageyama’s.
Luckily you realized what you had done and pulled away, but that was only briefly until Kageyama pulled you back in. You honestly had no idea how long you were kissing, but it was long enough for Ushijima to get up from the couch, preparing to leave. That didn’t happen though because as soon as he stood, you grabbed the collar of his shirt and kissed him.
“What a mess,” you mumbled to yourself, finally turning off the water.
Ushijima
Ushijima looked down at the photo with a small smile. It was the three of you from last night in the bar. Ushijima stood in between the two of you, his arms around your shoulders. He was always in between the two of you, but it was a place he enjoyed being. He felt comfortable there. The three faces in the photo smiled up at him. You were all smiling. Even Ushijima. He never really liked smiling in photos. Honestly, he never really smiled all that much in general, but there was something about you and Kageyama that always managed to bring the smile out for him. You were different from other people. You and Kageyama were special to him.
His eyes moved from his own smile to yours and then Kageyama’s. It occurred to him that Kageyama didn’t smile much at practice either. It was something about the three of you together that just worked. He noticed Kageyama’s hand resting on the back of his head in the photo and it forced a gasp from him which made him quickly turn to make sure no one heard. It was a feeling he knew now. A feeling that maybe he’d felt before, but now he could never forget.
The way Kageyama’s quiet breaths began coming out in whines, his gentle fingers gripping onto Ushijima’s hair as he pushed him further and further. Not only could he not forget, he didn’t want to. He loved the memory. More than the memory, he loved being with Kageyama in that way and that assured something in himself that he had been questioning all morning.
He was sure that he had feelings for you and feelings for Kageyama. And these feelings were not in the way they used to be.
Ushijima quickly saved the photo to his phone and grabbed his towel, ready to head back home to shower. Before he reached the gym doors, he pulled out his phone again, staring at the photo of the three of you. With a smile, he set the photo as his background image and headed home.
Kageyama
Kageyama did his best not to bump into the people passing him on the sidewalk as he looked down at his phone. They did look really happy in the photo. But that’s how they always were together, happy. Kageyama’s eyes wandered to his shoulder where he could see Ushijima’s hand resting comfortably and it immediately sent his mind to the night before.
Ushijima was bigger, taller, and heavier than Kageyama. Having his warm hands touching him felt better than he thought it would. Not that he’d ever thought about Ushijima in that way. It wasn’t that he never thought about it, it had come up a few times randomly, but their relationship wasn’t like that and Kageyama chalked the thought up to being stressed. Now though, he knew what it felt like and it was better than any of those thoughts.
It wasn’t just Ushijima’s touch either. Your touch felt amazing to him as well. You weren’t as big as Ushijima was but the contrast was nice. It was a complicated situation, one which none of you had talked about yet. Even though Kageyama was not the one who was inside you at all last night, there was a strange sense of satisfaction at seeing you with Ushijima. He actually enjoyed watching you both together, but not in the way that he wanted to see you both together without him. He wanted to be with you and he wanted to be with Ushijima. Both of you. Together. Making both of you feel good and seeing both of you happy.
You
Why you were standing in front of your mirror with, most likely, expired makeup and applying it with dirty brushes and old techniques was beyond you. Yet you really felt the urge to try hard tonight. It wasn’t like you never wore makeup, but you certainly didn’t go all out like you were now. It wasn’t even just the makeup either. You had pulled out several different outfits, hating all of them and even considered going out to buy a new one. All for literally one night. You knew why you were doing this though.
Ushijima had surprised you last night. Honestly, both of them had. But while Kags did surprise you, it was nothing like how Ushi did. You’d seen a lot of different sides to these guys over the years, but last night was a new one. Ushijima had always been the quiet one of the group, always following around you and Kags with whatever you wanted to do. He never complained, never really spoke up for the things he wanted, just always going along with you happily. Last night was not like that.
Last night, Ushijima had a quiet dominance. It wasn’t even dominance so much as confidence, like he knew what he wanted and was going to get it. The way he whispered in your ear, the way he pulled you into a kiss, the way he asked you to take off your jeans. You knew you wanted more. And you thought that somehow makeup and new clothes would help get you there.
Ushijima
It wasn’t like you never chatted privately, it just didn’t happen often. Not to mention the fact that the three of you all planned to meet. So it hung in Ushijima’s mind as to why Kageyama would message him privately.
He’d spent the last thirty minutes trying to find something that felt comfortable. Everything seemed to be off all day and even the clothing that he normally loved, wasn’t sitting right and Ushijima was annoyed. Kageyama asking him this random question only furthered his discomfort.
He glanced back down at his phone, half expecting Kageyama to explain why he was messaging privately, but he knew he wouldn’t. That wasn’t something Kageyama did. He said he’d explain, but Ushijima knew that after he got his answer, his incentive to answer Ushijima’s question was no longer there. It didn’t matter though, he was nearly at the restaurant at that point and he picked up his pace a bit.
Kageyama
Panic filled Kageyama’s body as he looked at the text. This was a normal reaction, right? You spontaneously have sex with your best friends the night before, unsure of your feelings and their feelings, and now you’re seeing them for the first time since then. This was panic, but it was a normal panic. An understandable panic.
He took a deep breath and swallowed heavily. Maybe he wasn’t panicking , but he was certainly nervous. He looked up from his phone and saw Ushijima rounding the corner. That’s when it hit him. Full-force, like a bat to his gut, the wind was forced from his lungs and he froze.
Last night may have been a spontaneous event, but Kagemaya now realized that he didn’t want it to be an isolated event. He didn’t want it to be an accident that only happened once and they never spoke about it until some time in the future when they were all in relationships with other people and they’d nearly forgotten that it ever happened at all. No. Maybe Kageyama didn’t plan last night, but it was most certainly not something he wanted to only happen once.
Upon seeing Ushijima, Kageyama realized that he wanted Ushijima in more ways than one and as Ushijima reached him, smiling a smile that not many people got to see, Kageyama grabbed his cheeks and pulled him in for a kiss. And not just any kiss. This was a deep, slow, romantic kiss that, for the briefest moment, made time stand still for the two of them.
You
That was strange. You did have a tendency to run a little late, but this time was nothing compared to usual. Sometimes you could be thirty minutes late without realizing it. Not the greatest habit, but you really couldn’t help it sometimes. This time, you’d been so nervous all day that you were only running a couple minutes late because you couldn’t find your shoe. Honestly, you were sure that Kageyama didn’t realize just how close to ‘about to leave’ you were. You might as well head down there and surprise them.
You stuffed your phone in your pocket and opened the front door. Ready to step out, you gasped as you were met with a wall of Kageyama and Ushijima in your doorway. Seriously, you weren’t that late. They had to come all the way up here to get you?
You were about to make a face at them for not believing you until your eyes made their way down to the space just in between the two men. In the small space between their bodies were their hands clasped tightly. Before you had the chance to say anything, Kageyama stepped into your apartment, pulling Ushijima with him. Just as he was about to walk past you, he stopped and leaned into you, whispering into your ear.
“We have a lot to talk about.”
He quickly kissed your cheek and made his way to your couch, still pulling Ushijima behind him, who then gently grasped your hand, tugging you closely to follow.
kageyama tobio in the japan edo period. a hopeless romantic of a failing courtesan as well as a germaphobe rich man.
Chapters: 1
warnings: a bit of a slow burn
Kageyama Tobio was seen to be untouchable in the eyes of whomever he crossed. His ears were open to practically no one aside from his parents. He walked the streets many times in shoes that were tailored to his exact size. Kageyama's clothes wrapping around his body in a way that had screamed nobility and wealth. His steps all calculated as he eyed down the stalls in the busy atmosphere. A small posse of men followed a little farther back, people of whom his parents trusted would bring him safe back every night.
Kageyama Tobio, a man who owned nearly half the city he resided in, the other half belonged to his parents.
You, however, were just slightly short of a popular courtesan who worked eagerly in the entertainment district. You weren't dazzling like the many others who worked hard on their appearance to catch a wandering man's eye. Your clothes were hand-me-downs, shoes tight against your feet.
It was hard working in the entertainment district when you were a courtesan who wanted to exist for more. To be more than an occasional one night with men who pay for the hour. To have more than a couple of measly hairpins that prove men have fallen for your attractions.
You were a snake who couldn't hunt properly because of the want to be utterly worshipped by a single man.
___
It was a particularly hot day.
Sunday morning, early with just only the first wave of humidity striking the city. Tobio was laid out on his porch, hidden away behind the already bloomed sakura trees. He wore his robe partially open as he held what looked to be the tiniest book man has ever made.
He was reading in the summer heat, with April having just ended Tobio had been cooped up nearly far too long. He enjoyed having the heat now but no doubt would he be regretting it as the months progress.
Tobio didn't have to 'patrol' the streets of the city until later that night and going into an area where people beneath him stress him out. There is the occasional dirty beggar that will cling to his robes and try to rip the fabric off of him, only to be silenced by the men following him. Whenever that has happened he burns the clothing afterwards.
As a child, Tobio never liked to be touched and couldn't fathom the unsightly.
"Tobio," a voice called out to him. His fingers shut the book while his other hand went to tighten his robe around his body. There's only one person that would be up this early calling his name.
A woman.
A woman that is his mother. She came from behind the paper wall, dressed in elegant clothing that had to have been way too hot to be in. Nonetheless, it didn't appear so on her painted face.
"Your father and I have decided upon a serious matter," she spoke, her left hand clutching a little tighter to her robes. Tobio was fully sat up now with his legs crossed beneath him. How serious of a decision could it have been for his mother to be dressed in her best early on a Sunday morning.
"We have decided on an arranged marriage with the neighboring Yachi family," the words seized him slightly. The Yachi family, Tobio never paid them much attention in his mind but his mother and father seemed to have a well enough relationship with them. However, he at least wasn't dense enough to not know they have a daughter who is around his age he believed.
But an arranged marriage, it seemed to shake Tobio with something foul on the inside. He didn't like the thought of having to force open his heart for someone he can't even recall looks like.
At least they had the courtesy of telling him instead of having him walk in blind to a family dinner with a woman sitting next to his chair. Tobio wouldn't have been able to control the emotions on his face.
He should have expected it, he was nearing 24 and still had no interest indulging in lustful affairs.
He had seen his part of men trapping themselves within legs of courtesans. Tobio watched over the entertainment district as well as the merchant square, a crude joke his parents wanted to play on him. The two parts of the city that had required the most supervision and had the dirtiest alleyways.
Tobio raised to his feet and flexed his fingers, "when is the marriage to take place,"
___
It was cold.
The heat from the blankets was rapidly escaping from underneath as the man who shared it, shifted to leave you again. You were nude, you shivered as the cold air devoured your skin with your client rustling with his clothes in the corner.
It was an early morning, that much you could tell. The cheap curtains you bought nearly two months ago did a poor job of filtering the light that came through. The two of you spent a night together skin upon skin with little to no energy to get up after he was done. You didn't mind that - in fact you rather enjoyed it.
"Is there going to be a next time Oikawa?" you asked. The rustling stopped and you thought he was considering what he should say.
"Yes, as long as your heart still lusts for what you can't have," he responded. You smiled a little bit even though you were offended of his comment. Oikawa had been coming to visit you more frequently than the others and amidst one night while you were drunk on comfort, you spilled your desires. He had listened without a word, merely providing an ear. This certainly wasn't what he paid for, but to push a nude woman off of you as she spoke her truths was short of bastardly.
Oikawa walked towards you, he was now fully dressed in clothes that you never got to see in the light. Whenever he came over, he always requested for the room to be darkened, hence why you bought the curtains.
He seemed to be well off, but he has yet to gift you anything except his time. However, he never seemed bothered for his tab to keep running as he stayed with you throughout the night. Most customers weren't even allowed to do that - yet the old bum and hag said nothing against it.
Who are you to argue with money anyway, a woman who practically lived paycheck to paycheck. It feels a lot better to sleep with someone anyway.
You rolled around in the covers, some of them coming off of your body as you did so, "I'll be sure to stay insatiable then so your visits are guaranteed."
Oikawa had laughed at you a little bit before placing the covers that had fallen off of you back on. One eye was open as you eagerly tried to watch the light reveal his full face and body as he left. However, all you received a glimpse of was short, curled, brown hair from the light in the hallway.
He was the only man who has visited that you know nothing more aside from his name. A mystery.
You turned back to look at the window, a huge sigh coming out from you. You couldn't wait for the thrill of night to come back and the search for what you desire to come again. Pulling the covers with you as you stood up, you walked over to the window.
You haven't read much as you are not very well educated. But you do have ears, and have listened to the fairy tales that have only blessed your ears a couple of times.
The woman of the home you are currently in, read a couple of these works to you so then you could base your reactions off of them. Getting a customer, a man to desire you more - to have them absolutely adore you. Crave for a touch that may never come, yearn to have a woman grant them ecstasy in a simple thank you.
Beg to have the flavor of your lips grace theirs even if just for a second.
Even just thinking about it has you tugging your blanket and your thighs rubbing against one another. How it would feel to be treated as a goddess, to be both the moon and sun a man worshipped. You've only seen it depicted in novels or paintings from the distant past. Currently, life was all about men and how women should be the ones worshipping them instead.
Absolutely sinful.
You moved from the window to head to your small wardrobe, letting the sheets fall from your hands. You wanted to change the way men see women, and to make back to how it was. With men kissing the shoe your feet resided, with a single look their way to have them absolutely enthralled.
You changed into some simple clothing with the intent of going into the shopping district to get some new perfume. The one you had currently was stale to your nostrils and you didn't like it anymore. A little bit of makeup to cover the marks of lust and you were out the door with a message to the hag of the house, saying you'd be back in a couple of hours.

About: You were introduced to the Karasuno Boys’ Volleyball club during your second year. Yachi needed help after Kiyoko had taken her leave, so she asked you to join her. Although, it would have been smarter to look for a first year, but you were new and looked lonely. When you met the boys you were bit overwhelmed but they grew on you in no time. Kageyama was a little rough around the edges at first, he was awkward and couldn’t hold eye-contact. He was a blushing baboon for the first few days. He was sure to keep his distance but you only found it exciting and hilarious. Sure enough you two became friends from all your taunting and teasing. You’re about to enter your third year, and this was your make it or break it. You had to start thinking about your own future- and so did Kageyama.
A/N: Thank you for the support! And new follows! I’m glad I’m not the only Kageyama simp :) I also like creating shorts with random prompts, it gets the creative juices going. So if you have any requests or such, please let me know. And... uh hope you like this part.
Cloudy Skies
Kageyama would never admit it but he kept thinking about that question. He answered truthfully but something bothered him about that. Not that it was honest but rather the answer itself.
"Kags!" You screamed before the ball could hit him in the face, but he just snapped his head to you. The sound echoed in the gym and he fell backwards at impact. Everyone flinched and made a pained face but your eyes widened with worry.
"I'm so sorry, Kageyama!" Tadashi bowed and apologized several times. He grew red in embarrassment and you would have teased him and called him cute if it wasn't for the growing red mark on Tobio’s cheek. You rushed over with Yachi along with Coach Ukai.
"Come on kid, talk to me." Coach Ukai examined the bruise. It wasn't anything too serious but he knew it had to hurt like hell. Especially to a body who wasn't ready for impact. "Someone go get a bag of ice!" Yachi ran.
"Don't say sorry to him, Yamaguchi, he was the one who wasn't paying attention." Tsuki pushed his glasses up even though they're his volleyball ones. A habit that hasn't died down. He was the only one who didn't step a little forward towards Kageyama.
"Put a cap on your salt, Tsuki," you yelled. It surprised a few of the players with your sudden authority. Even Tsuki tsked quietly.
There was little more venom in your words than usual, like a warning to back off.
"Woah! Did you mean to catch that with your face?!" Hinata jumped to get a better look. "If it wasn't for Y/N, you'd have a bad nosebleed right now Kageyama!"
"Can someone shut him up?" He groaned trying to get up to a sitting position. You shot a look at Shoyo that begged and ordered him to settle down, which he took quickly. Coach Ukai let out a sigh of relief when Tobio finally spoke up. You released a breath- one you didn’t know you were holding.
Coach Ukai asked him a few questions to check how hard the ball hit him. He answered them as best as he could but you snickered when he couldn't answer any government related questions- although Ukai looked around to verify if it was wrong or right with other team players. He was okay. Okay as he could be.
"Alright kid, take a break and we'll fill in for you. Get whatever is on your mind out, it's important that you find that focus again." Ukai helped him up and ushered him off the court. You grabbed onto his arm, in case he needed help with his balance, and led him to the sideline where you and Yachi stayed. Yachi came back with the ice pack and accidentally shoved it too hard onto Kags.
"Ah!" He winced from the cold and the pressure on his bruise.
"Sorryyy…. Here." She handed you the pack abruptly. "I'll go get a chair!" You watched as she ran and struggled to get a chair out. Hopefully someone will help her out.
Kageyama leaned on the wall for support and winced again when he tried to touch his cheek. You swat his hand away-
"Hey!" He glared at you for a second but once he saw your worried look he glared at the floor. "You'd make a horrible nurse," he mumbled.
However, he was taken by surprise when your fingertips made contact with his cheek. You grabbed his face and turned him to you so gently he wanted to flutter his eyes closed to rest a bit. It was then he knew that what he had said was a complete and total lie.
You applied the ice to his cheek, careful with the pressure thanks to Yachi. You were close, almost as close as when you were dancing together. He could feel you- like a presence, it made sense cause you were right there. But it still felt weird to him. And for a second- but what felt longer- you were the only thing in his vision. Your soft smile of reassurance and your caring eyes and how they expressed more emotion than words. He even noticed some marks here and there that he could've sworn weren't there before… and yet he found them...he found them beautiful. Like they added to you being already perf-
"Does it hurt?" Your voice was low and gentle, completely different from when you used it at Tsukishima. You were worried he might be playing the pain down, so he can jump back into practice. You should've pulled him aside when he wasn't responding to Shoyo's usual banter. He was quiet, and clearly lost in thought but you assumed it had to do with volleyball. You expected him to be back to normal once he started playing. And once he was reacting slower and moving slower than usual, you realized he wasn't fully here.
He realized you asked him a question after a moment. "No...no, the ice is working."
You smiled in relief and let him take over the pack. You took a few short steps back and crossed your arms content with your minimal work.
"See," you said confidently, "I might be a good nurse after all."
Before he could agree, Yachi came rushing in with a chair. Kageyama took his seat without argument, a surprise to both you and Yachi.
"Take all the time you need and then some, we'll be right over there if you need anything."
"But don't let that go to your head, your majesty," you teased. He hates that nickname with a passion so there was always some sort of burst of energy. But all he could do was roll his eyes. It let you know that something was still bothering him, and that wiped away your grin.
The rest of practice, Kags quietly stayed on the sidelines but watched the team with a sharp eye. It was weird of him to not want to continue playing, but you were also sort of glad he took time to rest. Maybe that ball did hit him a little too hard though… No- he said he was fine. Plus, if it was serious, Ukai would've rushed him to the nurse or something. There have been worse injuries in the team and Hinata has taken a few shots to Kageyama's head. So… he should be fine.
During clean up time, Ukai told Kageyama he can head home early, instead he stayed and helped a bit then waited for you. After changing, he stood by the stairs and stared at something in the distance with his back towards you. For some reason you were nervous. Your foot wouldn't stop tapping or you would pull on your fingers and try to crack your knuckles. He was being annoyingly quiet, and that put you on edge, clearly. You thought Kageyama was a simpleton, he only thought about volleyball and food. But you liked that because you always knew what he was thinking.
Until now. He's right there and he's quiet and he's not talking and he has almost no expression on his face and he's just not... here. Did someone say something to him? Was he upset? Or sad?
You wondered all of this as you got closer to him, you thought he'd be too lost in whatever was bothering him to notice you but he glanced at you.
"Ready?" He asked, tightening his strap. Once you gave him a small nod, you both started walking towards your house.
"You sure you don't want me to walk you to your house? We don't have to study today if you need some time alone," you offered him. You didn't want him to feel obligated to go to your house. You told him during clean up he didn't have to, but he just ignored you by scowling Shoyo over some sloppy mopping.
"Do you not want me to come over?" He looked at you from the corner of his eye waiting for your reaction. You just shrugged awkwardly and looked away from him.
"It's not that, it's just you got hit and-"
"It's just a bruise, Y/N."
You snapped your head back at him with a wild look. "Well yeah! You don't really get those!"
"Volleyball guarantees bruises, you know that." His voice didn't elevate like yours did, it was unbothered and didn't show any signs of caring.
"What were you thinking about during practice?"
He didn't respond. You thought he might be taking a minute to figure out his wording, like usual, but he was just straight up ignoring you.
"Tobio!"
Nothing. He was giving you absolutely nothing. He just kept walking while you waved your hands like a crazy person. So you stopped walking. You would've let it go if he told you he didn't want to talk about or hell, even if he said it's none of your business. But not responding and obviously ignoring you!?
He stopped and turned to you a few feet away. The sun was setting and the street lights behind you were turning on one by one. He noticed the thick clouds gliding towards you two, another rainy afternoon.
"Y/N, come on let's go. I'm not getting stuck in the rain again." He looked tired, like the thought of arguing itself was draining him. You would've walked in silence, but you were a bit pissed off. Why? Why was his silence bothering you so much? Was he finally getting tired of you? Were you the one who said something? What did you say? If it bothered him so much, he should've said something! Or… was it the dance? Did you step out of line? But…
"Tell me why you've been so quiet, Tobio." Your demand did little on his reaction. He sighed and placed his hand on his forehead, tired once again. When he just mentioned the rain again, you stomped your foot like a child. "Fine! Don't tell me and don't come over today!" You marched past him with your arms crossed over your chest.
He felt a drop on his nose and heard the sound of the approaching rain. You were mad and it almost seemed like the rain followed your gloomy state.
"You really don't want me to come over?"
"No!"
"Y/N, you're being ridiculous." That seemed to piss you off even more. So you quickly turned to scream almost a block away.
"And you're being a shady idiot Kageyama! Since when do we keep secrets!"
"Why are you so keen on knowing?!"
"Because you're not being yourself! You're worrying the team and the coach and ME!" You pointed to yourself feeling a bit selfish without the guilt.
“I’m fine, Y/N! Nothing is wrong!”
“Then tell me! If it’s really nothing, tell me what’s been going on in that head of your Tobio!” You waited and watched as he physically restrained himself from saying anything. And you know it shouldn’t be such a serious topic or conversation, to be honest you thought this whole argument was childish. And yet, here you were acting like a child who wasn’t getting what they wanted.
The silence hurt you for some reason. It was like he didn’t trust you, he didn’t rely on your comfort or need you to listen to him. He didn’t need you.
“Fine. I’ll go home,” he said finally. You didn’t just feel a drop, you were immediately drenched in the rain. You watched him rush off through the rain while you felt something awful.
An even more awful thought sparked when he was completely out of your sight. It was possible that he didn’t need you, but you knew for a fact that you needed him.
Plot: You get very excited over your new hoodie that just got delivered
Tsukishima:
This guy couldn't care less about what you wear
"You look the same every day no matter what you wear, so how does it matter anyway?"
But when he sees you get all excited after seeing your new hoodie, blond beanstalk kinda melts
The way your voice gets all high pitched from joy and the way your face brightens the room by 40 million watts
This salt shaker fell head over heels for you all over again
You quickly wear the hoodie which is 5 times your size and engulfs your whole body
You almost disappear in it as you start to flap your arms around, squealing at how good it feels and how the shop smell is still on it
He finally chuckles a little, wrapping his arms around you from behind and kissing the top of you head
"Maybe it doesn't look so bad on you after all"
Kageyama:
Another tall-ass crow who has no interest in how you dress up or your excitement after getting it.
"You got a new hoodie. I get it. Stop gushing over it so much already..."
You pout, offended as you follow him around the whole house trying to get him to notice you
"Ka~ge~ya~maaa~" you whine, smacking your long sleeves across his back in hopes of making him turn around
And when he finally does, it takes you a little while to notice, but by then one of your sleeves has already slapped him across his face
His eyes widen and your mouth forms an "O" shape
"You. ArE SO. DEAD." You squeal and start running in the opposite direction, laughing at his anger
The whole day goes by with him chasing after you and tickling you to death after he catches you, forcing you to apologize
Yamaguchi:
Finally! A👏boi👏who👏under👏stands👏
This little green-haired angel is soo supportive!!
"Hey! Your hoodie finally came. You've been waiting for that to get delivered for a week, now"
Simply giggles as you fangirl over your item of clothing.
And when you run up to him and start striking poses in front of him, this absolute CREAMPIE claps for you as well!
It usually ends with you doing something silly and both of you doubling over in laughter
And of course, after that, it's CUDDLE TIMES ✨✨
He knows that you usually don't care about what you wear, so the rare times that you do, he lets you
Hinata:
Tbh, this bby sun is prolly even more excited about your hoodie than you are
"Uwaaahh!! It looks so good AND it's orange!! Like my hair!!!"
His energy makes you even more enthusiastic about your purchase
It usually leads to the both of you jumping up and down in your living room, laughing
As you proudly display your beautiful clothing he sees how big it was and became confused
"Woahh! It's so huge. I bet I could fit in it with you. Why didn't you get one of your size? Was it not available? Do you want some of my hoodies that would fit you better?"
You had to explain to him how oversized hoodies are more comfortable and it's not just because they didn't have one in your size
That's when he decided, to prove his previous point, that it would be a good idea to shove his head inside your hoodie and pop out from its neckline so that he was right in front of your face
Your face immediately turned a deep shade of crimson as you hugged his cute little face close to your chest, gushing at how adorable he was
Haikyu!! boys teaching you how to play volleyball?
Prompt: How would the Haikyu boys react to you, their s/o, asking him to teach you how to play their beloved sport...
A/N: This is the start of a series! Everyone will consistently be in their third year of high school and therefore their characters are left up for interpretation and hence, my imagination (for now anyway).
~Sorry if you find it a little OOC~
Tobio Kageyama
Would literally be like "...whAT?"
Honestly would be so hype but would try and downplay it because "what if they suck?"
Spoiler alert: you do suck lmao
Either way becomes like a cute date for you two
You end up nailing him in the head even harder than Hinata- RIP you
"Okay, no, NO, you have to have your favoured foot at the front when your serving. Behind the line, idiot, that's a penalty," Kageyama instructs as you rearrange your stance, huffing when he holds your ankles and places them behind the line correctly.
"Is this right?" I ask as I throw the ball vertically into the air, and hitting it smack into his face. I stare at him with wide eyes and try to stifle my laugh as he looks at me with a scowl, "No it was not right, you moron. Throw the ball directly up into the air so you can hit it from where your standing. Also, keep in mind that the more force you hit the ball with, the more accurate your aim will be. By the way, that was also a penalty," he rambles.
"I think that was the most I've ever heard you speak... Like ever." I say coyly, leaving my position to wrap my arms around his neck. Pink blossoms on his cheeks as he looks down at me, frowning slightly.
"You're too short for volleyball anyway, dumbass." I dramatically gasp as I recoil my arms, glaring up at him.
"I'm literally taller than Hinata! And he's on the starting line!"
He rolls his eyes as he shuffles closer to me, "he wouldn't be if I wasn't his setter and you know it, idiot." I raise my eyebrows at his arrogance and quickly pinch his waist, knowing if I went for the stomach I'd be met with hard-rock muscle and hurt myself more than I'd hurt him.
Bless his athletic body.
He takes in a sharp breath of air as he lurches towards me, his own fingers in claw formation, ready to pinch me. I yelp as I try to run away, but fail as he wraps his arm around me, tickling me brutally. I let out a loud laugh and cause him to laugh with me, soon we're on the gym floor, tears running down our faces and cheeks aching.
Out of breath and panting, we finally stop tickling one another and lay on the ground, my head resting on his chest and his arm wrapped tightly around my waist.
"I can see why you love volleyball so much, Tobio, if every practice ended like this with you, I'd join the club too," I mumble, still out of breath.
His chuckle reverberates through me as he kneels down to kiss me but abruptly jerks back at the sound of a camera clicking.
We both turn to the door, leaping away from one another as we spot Hinata, with his phone out and a massive smile on his face. "I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW THE REST OF THE TEAM," he screams, a hysterical laugh escaping his lips as he bolts out of the gym.
A second later, Kageyama hastily gets up and starts running after him.
"HINATA YOU MORON, GET BACK HERE!"
I chuckle, stand up and pick up the ball on the floor and chuck it into the trolley, walking out of the gym, and watch my boyfriend chase around the ginger-haired boy so fast, they were nothing but navy blue and orange streaks in front of me, looking quite literally like the Karasuno volleyball uniform.
Notes, interactions and reblogs are highly appreciated <3
