Hey again! This is a reminder post for the Same Prompt Challenge, which is an event that starts in December and is organised through the Miraculous Marigami server. Curious? Click the link up there for more information! But the general idea is, all participants will create a work based off a single-sentence prompt, and we'll all get to see how many directions that one prompt can be taken in!

Some people have asked questions since the announcement two weeks ago, so we thought we'd give a quick FAQ here for those questions.

Is there really only one prompt? Yes - the idea is to explore the possibilities of just one single prompt, and every creator involved will be using the same one. This is also why we have a length requirement for fics, because more words means more room to explore!

Can I suggest prompts? Unfortunately not, because the prompt has already been selected. But if this event goes well, we could very well try out a second round, and we could absolutely use prompt ideas for that one!

Could you remind me of the schedule? Sure! Signups last until December 1st, and the prompt will be posted soon afterwards. We're aiming for December 2nd (tentative). After that, you will have just over two months to create, because posting starts on February 8th and lasts until February 15th.

Why is the posting period a whole week? This is just to allow people more chances to post, in case they're unavailable on a specific day.

How do I join? This event requires you to join the Miraculous Marigami server, because that's where the prompt will be shared to. All you need to do after that is just to say in the dedicated channel that you're interested, and you're signed up! Also: registration is not binding and there are no penalties for dropping out. We have signups because it's a good way to gauge interest, and since this is so new, it's nice to know how many people actually want to be part of it!

This will be the longest of the drabbles I'm doing for @marigamiweek, and also the second to last. Hard to believe we've been at this for a week already! Such great creativity has come from the event and I'm very happy overall to see it.

The concept of “masking” was something both Marinette and Kagami knew well.

As their friendship grew, the more paintings done, the more articles of clothing piled up, the more each of them wore a mask around each other.

Because neither wanted to be the one to make the first move and upset the cart. The situation drove their friends mad, with Alya and Adrien making the case to each girl that the other must be in love with them and how great they’d be together.

Neither wanted to budge. Neither wanted to be the one to destroy things if it didn’t work out.

So thus they continued to wear the masks. Kagami did see the illogical nature of following such a path, as a girl who never wished to hesitate, yet her desire not to lose her muse forever won out. For Marinette, the idea that someone like Kagami ultimately may end up with her had foolish notions. Eventually, Tomoe Tsurugi more than likely would give Kagami away to a suitor of her choosing.

Neither of them knew what occurred behind the scenes.

Tomoe Tsurugi indeed wanted Kagami to end up with the best possible match. It took her a very long time to arrive at the conclusion said match was Marinette Dupain-Cheng. She interviewed many other possible families, all of their connections which would fit better…

…and also stood a strong chance of denying her any type of future relationship with her daughter. There was a period in the past when such a thing wouldn’t have bothered Tomoe, but as time dragged on, the more she didn’t want to be seen as a monster of a parent.

Perhaps the Dupain-Chengs themselves rubbed off on her. They were not a family worthy, in the eyes of the upper classes.

Tomoe decided an exception could be made.

Because if the families didn’t come together to collude on this then nothing ever was going to come. She chuckled to herself, thinking of the assistant that said the children were being “useless lesbians”.

No more of that.

“Secretive” was the word for the whole evening. Marinette had been given very strict instructions from both her own parents and Tomoe Tsurugi; the design of the dress to make, the colours involved, even down to what kind of mask needed to be a part of the whole ensemble.

“Dear, I’m told they only hold these masquerades every so often. It is for the best of the best in Paris to present their children.”

For what? Her Maman wouldn’t say. Only that Marinette needed to stand on a balcony, in the moonlight, and wait.

What also bothered her was the complete radio silence from Kagami over the past few weeks. Tomoe sent a curt message, saying that Kagami needed to focus for an elite fencing match in Japan and that time couldn’t be spent in Paris. Since then, no messages of any kind. No emails. Nothing.

Enough to drive a person mad. The silence made Marinette realize that the feelings for Kagami ran deep…deeper than she ever could have known.

Enough to take a risk.

Enough to finally discard the mask.

Of course in order to do that, she needed Kagami. She sighed. A girl on a balcony, looking out over Paris, the moonlight shining down on a red and white dress.

What kind of girl is sent to a ball without a date?

Luckily the answer to her questions came without much further hesistation.

“Ma…Marinette.”

She turned, and despite the other girl wearing a mask which complimented her own, Marinette knew without doubt it was Kagami.

Dressed in a suit. Black with red accents. Marinette let out a small laugh. Tomoe commissioned the suit a year ago and she didn’t think anything of it since.

“Are you my date for the evening?”

Kagami stared for a moment, before a wide smile broke out. She took Marinette’s hand and kissed it.

“If the instructions from my mother are to be believed, you are allowed to be my date forever, if you wish.”

Marinette paused in response, and then reached behind her head to untie her mask. Kagami did the same as they came together into a hug.

For @marigamiweek, continuing on. This drabble is constrained somewhat, since there aren't as many opportunities within the episodes as one may think lol. It is based on the ending of Ikari Gozen.

“I understand that you want to make friends, but friendships can prove disappointing sometimes.”

They were words that confused Kagami but were perfectly clear to Tomoe. She knew fully of the pain of getting involved with a person, only for the end result to be that the friendship falls apart over different life goals, different paths, different ways of seeing the world…

…A difference in how they view love…

Tomoe wasn’t quite sure yet if her daughter was going to follow the same path she did, not necessarily in how her family viewed the world but more in the pain of love, friendship, and wasted time. She preferred that Kagami fully devoted time to her studies, her fencing, and activities that would allow for her to fully take the reign of the family business in the future.

She sighed to herself, and then made a gesture towards Kagami.

“You may go if you wish.”

“The game is over. We lost” Marinette stared at Kagami’s phone, which showed an image of four people around Adrien. Most of them she knew, and Marinette was happy in particular for her best friend Alya to be a winner of the overall Friendship Day contest.

“No, we won the right to get orange juice together. If you still want to, that is. Nothing can stop us now.” Marinette expected that Kagami probably needed to run off or leave considering how busy the other’s girl schedule always was, yet surprisingly they found themselves together again. This needed to be taken advantage of!

“I was wrong about you, Marinette. I'm glad this game randomly put us together. Now I understand why Adrien considers you a good friend.”

For some reason, hearing those words stung. Marinette really wasn’t sure what provoked such a feeling. Her interest in Adrien so far hadn’t gone much further than just that, and maybe the emotions surrounding that boy were clouding her head to more important things…and people.

“Oh– uh– did he tell you that… I mean… that we're friends?” Kagami nodded, and Marinette managed to put forward a bitter sweet smile in return. “That’s great. I guess. I mean I’m friends with a lot of people and…I don’t know. No! I do know! I think I’d like to be better friends with you, Kagami.”

This wasn’t cracking the door open a little. It might as well have been Marinette kicking down the door and asking Kagami to come in. She needed to ponder this just for a moment, and then remembered.

No hesitation.

It’s what her mother will want to hear.

“Then I suggest we meet up weekly.”

Marinette nodded in reply. “Maybe for juice? Then you can come over to my house, meet my family…”

Kagami thought this all over, then suddenly stopped walking. Marinette turned to her, curious as to why.

“I wish to apologize for earlier. You are not indecisive, you just sound out your options first.”

“Oh! Oh, the whole blood type thing. It’s fine Kagami, really. I know I can be here and there on things and maybe a little bit irresponsible-“ At this she felt Kagami take her hands together. The slightly awkward smile from earlier had returned, though to Marinette it was becoming more endearing.

“I am sorry. Earlier I may have also said you were weird.”

Marinette wearily smiled in return. “Earlier I may have thought you were in this to be Adrien’s girlfriend, and I thought I’d slow you down.” She swallowed all of her pride. Marinette figured that if a friendship was to be based on a solid foundation, they needed honesty.

And it looked like Kagami appreciated the notion.

“We can both admit to being wrong in certain ideas about the other. I believe in being direct. Nothing superstitious, only facts, honesty and…”

“Miraculous?”

Kagami’s face went blank, then she gave a small laugh. “Yes, I suppose I must believe in the Miraculous.”

The air was clear between them both. Marinette considered bringing up their Zodiac signs, and then decided against it if Kagami wasn’t into things based in fact. Instead they talked about their school work, various interests, and if such a friendship based on different worlds had merit.

Next addition into @marigamiweek. Tomorrow's drabble will be a break as "Alternate Ending" really only works in a few different ways and I'll also be doing so with a canon episode of ML, so.

Fabric

Rolls and rolls and rolls of fabric. Enough to last Marinette a lifetime. Several lifetimes. All of it very high quality. Everything from the finest silk to canvas.

The person at the door delivering said that it was gift from “Madame Tsurugi”. Marinette had come to know this meant it came from Kagami’s mother and not Kagami herself, as she used “Miss Tsurugi” when sending things to her.

As she frequently did from Japan when away. Chocolates from a shop she frequented in Paris. Plush toys of ladybugs. A giant plush dragon to sit on her bed to act as a “guard”. All of it amused Marinette to no end. Kagami had wanted Marinette to travel with her back on this last trip, but school schedules made it difficult to happen.

And the fact that Marinette wanted to try and pay for the trip herself.

Anything that came from “Madame Tsurugi” came also with a hidden meaning: that it must be used for something on Kagami. No leaving anything to chance for if Marinette bought anything of “lower quality”. In return for the artwork Kagami made of her, since being her “muse” meant that any time Kagami put a paintbrush down an outstanding piece featuring her was more than likely the end result, Marinette had taken to making clothing for her…friend.

Yes, friend. Nothing more. Not yet. Maybe.

Sorting out her growing feelings for Kagami would need to happen sooner than later. Before they went out on a trip together. Intentions had to be clear, so there were no possible misunderstandings between them.

And also Madame Tsurugi had to be dealt with, too. Marinette knew where she stood with Kagami and had no doubts, but her mother…

Tomoe Tsurugi’s mysterious reputation didn’t help matters at all.

The delivery driver passed Marinette a note as they left. Written on very expensive stationary were instructions.

“You are to make kimonos for Kagami and yourself. If you require instructions please call to one of my assistants. I will assume the fabric delivery will pay for this in its entirety.

Marinette knew a string probably had to be attached. Kimonos for Kagami and herself?

Posting a bit earlier today! Next part in my string of drabbles for @marigamiweek. It's slightly on the shorter side but an important little linking story.

Did they have a mutual interest in each other?

For Kagami, the notion confused her more than anything. She knew for a while that her love didn’t lie in the opposite sex, though she kept herself well “in the closet”. Her mother forbade any kind of relationship, though she noted that she also never said that going after a girl partner would be in distaste.

Only that a relationship needed to come later, when Kagami can be ensured “she’d win in her pursuit, nothing less is acceptable.”

She sighed, thinking over Marinette. Her friend occasionally noted what she found interesting in boys, flipping through magazines for fashion design ideas, and only here and there about girls. They were growing closer with each passing week, spending more free time together.

Her muse, her friend. The paintings that Kagami accomplished with Marinette as her model were truly outstanding, some of her best work. Good enough that when told about the progress by her assistants, her Mother insisted that some of the paintings be put into a show.

Which of course made Kagami nervous, her feet tapping as she awaited Mariette’s arrival for their usual juice date. She needed to ask Marinette’s approval for allowing such paintings into the show, especially the one of her in the red dress. The first painting with her as muse.
