When your OTHER prime opponent for Ultimate Little Sister 1) is your narrative foil as a younger sibling whose life is swallowed up entirely by the legacy and control of your older sibling, both of whom were driven to become second version of Junko Enoshima as a plaything in her game of despair, and you managed to escape that cycle but you can so, so easily see yourself in someone who didn't; and 2) is kinda cute.

Kaede/Komaru

Protag girls!! Upbeat girls!! They meet like two people walking angry dogs who hate each other at first sight except they're convincing Miu and Toko respectively to try to get used to being social. 101 Dalmations AU but with, like. Real people who are too wrapped up in catfighting to notice their bffs are having a meet cute over there.

HPAU--Komaru/Kaede. Komaru gets insecure, and Kaede uses a feather-inspired metaphor to cheer her up.

“Not gonna lie,” Komaru said quietly, her smile sad and longing. She held Kaede’s hand loosely. “Sometimes when I stand next to you, just brimming with talent, I feel a little like mud in comparison.”

Kaede’s heart twinged. “Komaru…” she began, trailing off after her first instinct was to deny that she was anything special at all. It was true, in comparison with her classmates she often felt average in comparison, but to someone outside of Hope’s Peak, she didn’t think the words would be reassuring.

The problem was that Kaede didn’t know what words were reassuring. Her brain stalled; she threw her gaze around the park, searching for something that could put a smile back onto her girlfriend’s face. There was nothing, but… Her eyes landed on a feather, an unassuming brown blown next to her foot.

A thought occurred to her; she picked it up by the shaft, pinching carefully so that it didn’t blow away.

The yuri wheel says... Kaede x Komaru

They are both protagonists who are more active than reactive. Kaede takes charge in V3, she makes a plan to kill the mastermind and tries to keep everyone's spirits up. Komaru needs a bit of help from Toko, but eventually is determined on escaping Towa City. Kaede would be a big help to Komaru in moments when she loses her footing. Kaede was the reason a lot of the V3 cast was able to push forward in the beginning. They have two events together in DRS.

They are both extroverted and friendly. They also both have tree related last names, Naegi means sapling and Akamatsu means red pine.
