CARD STORY: Halloween ‘16 Kaede

“Vampire gone mad!”

Kaede fumbled with her house keys, rushing to get inside. It had been the coldest week of winter so far, and she wanted nothing more than to relax in her heated house.

As she entered her home, she instantly detected a delicious smell from the kitchen.

“Welcome home, Kaede!” Sadone exclaimed from the kitchen as Kaede removed her coat and shoes. She walked into the kitchen, greeting Sadone with a kiss on her cheek. Sadone smiled, and went back to searching the fridge.

“What are you making?” Kaede asked from her bedroom as she changed her clothes.

“I’m making some ramen for dinner, is that okay with Kaede?” Sadone asked as Kaede walked back into the kitchen.

“O-of course…” Kaede stuttered, followed by a giggle from Sadone.

Kaede sat down on the couch, pulling a knit blanket onto her lap as Sadone handed her a bowl of ramen and sat next to her. Sadone grabbed another blanket and laid it down on her lap gently. As they ate in a comfortable silence, Kaede began to feel a shiver creep up her arms.

“Sadone, are you feeling cold at all?” Kaede asked as she pulled the blanket over her arms.

“Yeah…is Kaede cold too?” Sadone asked, rubbing her arm.

“A little bit…is the heating on?”

“I’ll go check!” Sadone exclaimed as she stood up. She had been standing near the small machine for a few moments, a confused look plastered across her face.

“Kaede…it doesn’t seem to be working…” Sadone stuttered. “I’m sorry, this must be my fault…”

Kaede got up and laid her hand on Sadone’s shoulder.

“It’s fine, Sadone, I’m sure it’s not your fault. The heating is probably broken because we’ve been using it so much.”

“I guess that does make sense, but…how else are we gonna stay warm?” Sadone asked as she walked back to the couch, setting her bowl on the coffee table.

As Kaede sat down next to her, she put her finger to her chin in thought. “Hm…I don’t really know, do you have any ideas?”

A light blush rested on Sadone’s cheeks as she looked up at Kaede. “Um…we could cuddle…but only if Kaede wants to of course…”

Kaede blushed brightly and avoided eye contact with Sadone. “I suppose…that could work…”
