Hip Hop Legend Biz Markie, whose birth name was Marcel Theo Hall, has passed away. Markie was a rapper, producer and DJ in his career. He became known within the rap genre realm as the self-proclaimed 'Clown Prince of Hip-Hop' for lighthearted lyrics and a humorous nature. "It is with profound sadness that we announce, this evening, with his wife Tara by his side, Hip Hop pioneer Biz Markie peacefully passed away," his representative said in a statement. "We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time. Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years." "Just a Friend" was featured on Markie's second studio album, "The Biz Never Sleeps." It rose to No. 9 on the U.S. charts and went platinum for selling over 2 million copies. He released five solo studio albums in his career, most recently "Weekend Warrior" in 2003. His genial personality and outgoing antics earned him several cameos in TV and films, including "Men in Black II," "Empire" and "Black-ish." "He leaves behind a wife, many family members and close friends who will miss his vibrant personality, constant jokes and frequent banter," his representative said in the statement. "We respectfully request privacy for his family as they mourn their loved one."
