Wellwire’s Log: First Flight

“It’s been about two months since Shoebot’s been activated. Everything seems to be running as I intended. Well, I mean a few things did need tweaking here and there like how I needed to readjust her visual sensors a bit. She kept knocking into things and chased after a lizard. I think she thought it was me or something along those lines. It was actually kinda fun to watch her try, but again I have to keep an eye on that. Hahaha! Eye, that’s funny.
Anyway, I think it’s still going to be a while before we’ll be able to even try the flying mechanics out properly. I’ve looked over the wings almost every single night and the hardware seems secure enough. At just want to make sure she’s in tip-top shape before I try taking her out on the field. I’ve worked so hard on Shoe and I can’t go back to square one. God, that would be horrible. I don’t want to think about….. wait, no Shoe! No! Not the lizard again! Audio Log #101
I’m pretty sure Shoebot’s getting the hang of it. All her sensory systems are functional and running perfectly. She’s responding to stimuli in record time, nothing’s broken off in the past three weeks. I’ve even been able to ride in the cockpit a few times while on the ground! Apparently, I didn’t fine tune the stabilizer’s properly yet, so I still got a bit sick from some of the faster movements. Luckily that shouldn’t take too long to fine tune. Plus I still have to get used to it before we hit the air. And yes, I’m planning to take her up soon enough. I just have to wait for the weather to be a bit better before thinking about it. Heavy winds and a lot of dust kicked up that would make it hard to navigate up there safely. Again, everything has to be just right before take off.

Today’s the day of the first test flight of Shoebot. I’ve checked the spring wings ten times over to make sure they work and I’ve been finetuning the cockpit for five days straight. I even managed to fall asleep in there a few times and gotten past most of the motion sickness. The weather’s clear as day and it should just be a basic flight around the field and back to base if we don’t get off track. Hopefully things work out, I’m just so excited and yet soooo scared at the same time. But hey, we’ll never know until we take the leap huh? Well, here we go. Shoe, come on girl! We gotta get to the roof! Hey hey hey! Wait for me to get in first!

Well….. there were a few complications with the first flight. On the bright side, the wings actually released in time and were got a little bit of pretty good altitude. But that was about it…. I tried to adjust our position a little and everything just flipped over on its head! We crashed hard into the ground and Shoe managed to tear a sail during landing. I got a few cuts and I know I’m already feeling a bad bruise on my shoulder forming, but I’ll live. Ah ah ah, easy girl! Sorry about that. Shoe hasn’t left my side since I crawled out of the cockpit banged up. Her protective programing seems to be working fully, which is good. I’ll fix up her dents and replace the sail in the morning if she allows me. I’ll also have to check the main core and see what I can do to stabilize the next attempt. Yes, there will be a next attempt. A Wellwire doesn’t give up that easily. But that’s all for tomorrow. But for now I really need to call it a night.
